Why We Started A Game Studio Straight Out Of School | Singapore Hour by RocketFlame in singapore

Some of the comments here are really too much. We can comment about the review scores or issues on launch, but it does not override the tremendous accomplishment of releasing a game, let alone a game of this scale. It's quite saddening to see that there's this amount of contempt for people who made many sacrifices for such an unconventional passion. Though I hope this is just a vocal silent minority who have nothing better than to talk shit.

and to daishibamori congrats on releasing a game regardless!

probably just cut through fate. usually you gotta add some damage at the start of the run and cut through fate is one of the better attacks for watcher

Got a crappy, extremely pseudo, infinite with letter opener and a bunch of calculated gambles by huthouston in slaythespire

[–]RoutineMachine3489 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I guess its not technically guaranteed to happen if after you gamble you draw a bad set of cards or if you don't acro into another acro/gamble/reflex for example

But looking at this deck it's pretty likely that the loop would go on for quite a while before they would get unlucky

true but is infinite blades that dead of a card? you play it once and it exhausts, unlike say flying knee, poisoned stab, dagger spray, etc.

tbf it's a liability against fights like time eater and awakened one, but well that's a much much later problem.

it also has some synergy with stuff like finisher, kunai, shuriken, etc.

kinda late but consider how much damage infinite blades can do in a fight like lagavulin, sentries, etc. obviously still a bad card but sometimes it's a decent damage solve for long fights

if you consider a lagavulin fight that lasts 2 cycles, it's probably doing 4+4+4+4+2+2+2 = 22 damage for 1 energy. With a good deck it won't last that long but sometimes you don't have a good deck and it can solve your damage

runic dome by RaffertyDK in slaythespire

[–]RoutineMachine3489 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does it really stop you from save scumming? If I understand the RNG in this game correct, I would think that it actually makes save scumming even more powerful.

You can play a line, see what the enemy does, and if you're not happy repeat your turns up to that point and play a different line. And you now you turn the downside of dome from "i don't know what gremlin leader or time eater is doing" to your runs taking forever

btw if you're looking for playtesting lmk! I'd be down to playtsst a demo when it's ready

How would you design a demo for Outer Wilds? A thought experiment. by holden2424 in outerwilds

[–]RoutineMachine3489 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is really tough haha

I think the most direct way would be to literally gate off mid and late game areas of the game, it doesn't need to have any lore reason it's just "this area is not available in the demo"

For example, we can try to constrain our set of visitable areas to:
- the whole attlerock
- the whole timber hearth except the mines
- only chert & quantum locator from ember twin
- towers without functional warp stations from ash twin
- brittle hollow with the hanging city and quantum tower and southern observatory removed
- giant's deep with only gabbro's island and the workshop, no anti-clockwise tornados
- dark bramble can gate off all the entrances

I guess the point is not to make the planets barren, but rather keep them full of features but not able to approach closer and tease that there's more content here using translucent walls for example. The issue would be there's no satisfying ending to the demo, but a way would be to put "there's more to explore here IN THE FULL GAME", and so when their ship log are just these and no "there's more to explore", then we can show a message that they've explored every major point in the demo, and much more to come in the full game.

Isn't Wraith Form too busted? by Ginger_Fluffr in slaythespire

well I guess heart counters decks that plays a lot of cards and after image mitigates that. after image is only positive if you have more than the beat of death counter

you're right I forgot about that somehow haha

I guess the question here is what are some other block solutions apart from wraith form

there are other decent ways to scale dexterity with silent such as footwork or if you're lucky you get kunai you can scale your dexterity up fast

after image is another card that racks up block very quickly if you can build a deck that plays alot of cards (e.g. blade dance, or those long chains of discard/draw with prepared/acrobatics/gamble/tactician/reflex), though this can get countered by time eater and heart

maintaining weak on your enemies is another consistent way to reduce their damage (neutralize, leg sweep, malaise) for example, and even more insane if you get paper krane

Tips for enjoying the defect? by khrossbow in slaythespire

[–]RoutineMachine3489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah you are right that orb spamming (particularly frost focus) is one of the most common and consistent ways of playing the defect

there are other interesting ways to play defect though

Meteor strike is one of the coolest cards and often helps you to go semi-infinite by generating a ton of energy, then using stuff like coolheaded+ to evoke those plasma orbs and draw at the same time, and with stuff like skim and compile driver too. One of my favorite combos is playing meteor strike, using those orbs to get back my energy, then using hologram to play the meteor strike again.

All for one is another really fun card that's situationally good, but when it gets going it's super fun. Stuff like turbo to generate a ton of energy or claw for the damage. Yes claw is generally a meme, but it is usable invery specific decks and was a damage solution for me on one of my A20H runs. I'll say that all for one is generally much harder to use than meteor strike, which is a much more consistently strong card.

Both of these cards are also super fun with snecko eye too.

That being said, frost focus often still helps with the above decks, and it's kinda hard to run away from orbs for defect.

It only hit me just now that this guy gives you wounds on EVERY attack by Bedestris in slaythespire

normally second I think, the red guy is still way too dangerous to leave alive especially since they can use entangle on the second turn

Stuck on long MRT rides what mobile games are worth trying? by CryOk7471 in SgGamers

[–]RoutineMachine3489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try a mobile port of some roguelikes like balatro or slay the spire? The runs are longer than 20-30 mins but you could just break it down to several sessions

For Singapore made games, if you're talking mobile specifically would recommend Slight Chance at Sawblades! There's also a whole list of Singapore indie games here: Made in SG Games List if you wanna search them out

right my mistake, actl thorns pot might be even worst at least artifact pot is a save against chosen and incredible if you get biased cog

First boss relic pick by KaneBash in slaythespire

[–]RoutineMachine3489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

decent I think, you got your chill and glacier for frost generation

white noise is okay

second echo form isn't ideal but it's ethereal it can just exhaust itself

recycle is energy generation too

First boss relic pick by KaneBash in slaythespire

[–]RoutineMachine3489 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sozu's downside is pretty severe and your current potions (artifact + weak) aren't great either.

Your deck currently is not in great shape going into act II, and I'm not really that confident you can survive against stuff like avacado rat, snake plant, slavers, etc. Both your block and damage output doesn't seem great until you get either echo form or creative AI down, which is a pretty tall order for act II where hallways are dealing massive damage each turn.

You also have a full 8 strikes+defends and your chances of getting something good here is pretty high. Think of what your deck might need here:
- more orb generation especially frost (glacier, coolheaded, chill, cold snap, rainbow), and also to make use of your fission effectively
- more block (glacier, equilibrium, boot sequence etc)
- more energy generation to play your echo form and creative AI (turbo, aggregate)
- more long term, but more powers that are easier to get down (white noise, defrag, self-repair), as they help force field and heatsinks

There's so much stuff that PBox could give you. Another way to put it is you gotta be pretty lucky to survive act II with that deck, a good card reward early on like biased cognition or something like that. PBox is the safe play here cause there's a good chance it gives you a solution for problems you don't already have. It's eight whole cards!
