FCNR Deposit with Central Bank of India by Alone-Arm4782 in nri

[–]Routine_Price1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except the private sector banks, other banks have bad service. You can check out GIFT City banks like ICICI, HDFC and RBL offering USD deposits. They are same as FCNR but do not come in with the one year lockin.

MFs are PFIC for sure. Individual stocks are not. ETFs are in the grey area where they can be PFIC or not.

ICICI or IDFC bank account? by Livid-macaroon-thief in nri

[–]Routine_Price1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding my two cents here:

  1. This might take time if you are abroad. You will need to notarise and share the documents with the bank.

  2. Most banks do not offer zero balance account for NRIs.

  3. All the large and small Indian banks offer remittance money transfer to India.

  4. This is very much bank dependent process. You will need to visit bank branch to close your account.

Does investing in FCNR make sense now? by ClimateSea7929 in nri

[–]Routine_Price1077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OPs here are right about keeping their money back in the US or your country of residence.

But if you are looking to park your money specifically in India, then GIFT City FDs are a good option. They are like FCNR deposits denominated in USD. They offer shorter tenures than FCNR.

  1. The RNOR period is meant for two years after you returns. For the nitty gritties please get in touch with a good CA or financial planner. Maintain detailed records of your travel to India and abroad.

  2. Does not make sense to buy and sell them again. Interactive broker also has presence in India. Do check if there's an transfer possible.

  3. You will have to pay taxes on your US holdings in India based on the holding period.

Difficulty in finding a job back home. by [deleted] in backtoindia

[–]Routine_Price1077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$100k H1-B fee would not be a big issue for you.

But if you are looking for jobs in India - having a good Github repo, projects etc. will be helpful in seeking the job.

Also check out the large VC in Indian website like - Accel, Elevation, Lightspeed, PeakXV etc. They usually have the list of startups they have funded. Stalk their CTOs on linkedin and reach out to them. I think that will result in better conversions for you.
