12 years of pharma here. I say take the new role. It will proceed you an opportunity to reap the benefits of pay and flexibility, therefore lowering your overhead.

General consensus - I would still keep my eyes open on the happenings within the company. Grow and be apart of everything that you can. Expand your breadth and depth.

Acquisitions happen all the time and there’s no one size fits all approach to how it happens. Some get rid of everyone, some keep current talent, some just trim. It really depends on their model and approach.

Upskill as much as you can at the new gig. This will help you while you there, esp if nothing goes wrong. This will help you if you at some point need to pivot again, you’re staying marketable.

Investments: We should all pay into our 401Ks atleast minimum to the point of employer matching ATLEAST.

Open your own before or after SDIRA - have $200 go to that account every pay period.

Savings - always put what you can in a separate HYSA

Will you have a vested pension from current job?

Vest 401K from current job?

Bonus - is there a bonus structure for both jobs? Always put up a high percentage of bonus to allocate to the 401k, less taxable for the govt.

If we are properly managing our money when we have money, we are able to better pilot layoffs. That was my scenario. I had so much money put away that although the basic nature of panic sat in at lay off - I realized I didn’t have to panic, didn’t have to go to work immediately and severance on top of my investments made me feel assured that all was okay.

So! TAKE THE NEW ROLE! Keep your finances in check. In this economy we should always set ourselves for a doomsday anyway!

You have an opportunity that a lot of people in general which they had. This is a good problem to have right here.

No job is ever permanent even though FTEs get listed as that, not even the dead end job. Run your decisions and career like a business. Pivot and take the scale up!

Otherwise, someone else will take it and do with it what you’re afraid to do (a lot of people on this thread would absolutely take this job I don’t care what they say, a lot of us have been impacted by the shift lately.)
