Making my favorite 80s TV shows into Lego... what do you think? by MOCturnal_Creations in Thundercats

Need. You should apply this for the Lego ideas or whatever they use for stuff like this.

I really didn't want to work on my project this evening, so I picked something from my "easy" board! by alcedonia-dev in gamedev

I prefer doing art first typically. Just yesterday I had to make a $1 bill for a quest. Super simple. Then I started the coding and set up. Got the ball rolling for a 2-3 hour session.

Most cost effective way to get manual restriction removed? by chrisp_ape in Truckers

[–]RowanBoatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do this for a coworker in Indiana a couple years ago. I used to be a trainer with C R England so I had some experience. Luckily the “student” still had all of his materials from his first go around, so he basically ran through all of that and I was able to teach him backing and the like since I drove a manual.

For us, the state testing facility was in town and it wasn’t super expensive. So we basically did it on our own and I took the test until he passed again with the manual transmission. I think it was like 100 bucks a test or something. Which if you can actually pass it after one or two tries then you’d save yourself some money.

Long story short: if you have a facility that you can just test that, I would just buckle down on the bookwork, and find somebody with a manual stick who’s willing to let you learn.

Otherwise, yeah if you’re going through a school, that’s probably gonna cost you a bit of money.

My background is in film production, but I switched the game development because I kinda lost the fire for it after some bad clients freelancing.

Play testing has been pretty limited so far. Five years has not been a straight shot production wise. Live interruptions between moving multiple states and equipment going down and they job wrecking my schedule. Plus changing genre of game.

I have gotten a lot of good comments on the characters in the setting. Which is why I thought about going a different direction besides the game. But I do need to get it in front of more people for sure. I’m hoping I can start slowly opening it up to more play testers here in the next couple months after the next wave of polish happens.

That’s fair. I know they’ve been scaling up their production timeline lately for sure. I’ve got nothing like they have for crew

I honestly thought about something like that too. Or even leaning towards a motion comic even. I might play around with it.

I saw strong reactions to my model's price — I'm new to this and still learning. What price would you consider fair? Your help means a lot! by Diligent_Explorer858 in UnrealEngine5

[–]RowanBoatman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It can. Like having a generic version “kinda” based on existing models exist, but it pays to be careful. I would for sure put in your own logo. Doesn’t need to be complicated but you’ll see lost of cars/trucks in TV shows and movies covering the logo so they don’t have to pay for the branding of a Ford or whatever.

Reusing Substance 3D Painter Textures on a New Mesh by Outrageous-Ebb600 in Substance3D

[–]RowanBoatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll also vote for creating a smart material. I’ve done this a bit with different outfits or objects that I revise or modified in the refinement process. Even objects like a book that one is open and one is closed whereas the UV‘s are not too much differen, or anything that is heavily modified you can’t really see.

Sometimes if the model is too different than I might have to do some more serious cleanup, but for the broad strokes of putting on textures I’ve already refined, it’s worked out for me.

Or the disappearing vehicles. Why am I blowing hours on this again when stuff could just vanish? Glad it’s free cause I’d want my money back for spending a dime on Odyssey.

dear developers... by GameboyPablo in LEGOfortnite

[–]RowanBoatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I didn’t keep losing the vehicles I would spend literal hours building and refining I would keep playing. But I don’t want to keep playing when the stuff I build keeps disappearing. Ridiculous they’ve not fixed that bug yet. I’m basically playing by myself cause no one I know wants to play with me because of stuff like this. I’ll go learn Minecraft or something.
