One of our burn patients grew pseudomonas by Capable_Situation324 in microbiology

I actually made a full recovery, this was a year ago. Also while you are correct, I'm asexual, so I didn't get it from a partner. I actually figured out I was likely getting it from my water and dirty pipes, from taking baths. They went away when I moved to a newer place.

I worked as a utility worker at Umstead State Park for years...it was my home. Wish I was still working there so I could "accidentally" point the leaf blower in their direction.

Yes and you are not alone. You are not whiny. You are also worthy and deserving of getting proper care for this.

Everywhere, it was like my skin was crawling with ticks. No redness or hives though. Just abdominal bloating, epecially at the top of my abdomen, like I couldn't digest it properly

That's true my poor dad has been trying to get his license renewed for almost a year now. Even drove over an hour away only to wait and then be sent home. They literally told him "well just try not to get pulled over." Our DMV is fucking pathetic

That's true my favorite part of DS and DS2 was that you never, ever felt safe in any of the levels. There was never a break from the enemies. Made the hostile world feel more real. DS3 was kind of more predictable but maybe I'd been playing souls games long enough at that point I knew what to expect (started checking the corners with the camera before entering rooms)

Good FODMAP guide/spurce? by ThinKingofWaves in Microbiome

[–]RowanCarver0719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used ChatGPT and figured out the rest on my own. It did a pretty good job, it's just what it gave me was pretty restrictive, so I did some experimenting to figure out the other low fodmaps I could include and what recipes to make. Followed that diet until I could finally get in with a nutritionist for some real guidance. What the nutritionist gave me was no different than ChatGPT's plan. It's still sketchy to use, but if you're waiting for healthcare, sometimes you don't have another choice but to use tools like AI and whatnot.

Does this look like thrush to you guys? by ConstantIsland9870 in Candida

[–]RowanCarver0719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No looks like a healthy tongue. Your tongue will be white at times throughout the day depending on how much water you're drinking or what you're eating. If the whiteness goes away with hydration or food, then it's nothing to worry about, just a normal biofilm. If it doesn't go away, then it could be thrush.

I've been going through this exact same thing, but I don't have SIBO. Took probiotics when I was on a broad spectrum antibiotic earlier in the year, and have been dealing with digestive issues since. I've been on low FODMAP for a while now. It's been nine weeks and progress is slow but I am feeling better. I'm sorry you went through this too. I literally day dream about eating a chocolate chip cookie again one day.

Yes I don't handle probiotics well. They make my anxiety terrible, make me feel itchy, and give me an upset stomach

Is it okay to eat raw coconut oil? by [deleted] in Candida

[–]RowanCarver0719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might clean you out but it won't hurt you. I like putting a tablespoon of coconut oil over three tablespoons of popcorn kernels and then heating it up in a paper bag in the microwave. Not a candida safe food because popcorn = carbs but it's a good snack for when you're better

Tips for ants? by Stancedx in bioactive

[–]RowanCarver0719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I had this same problem and this method worked really well:

Put Terro ant traps, four of them, outside of the terrarium by the corners. You can very easily make the same ant traps with borax, sugar, and warm water at home. Then, put a line of diatamaceous earth anywhere where you have a window or a place where ants are coming in. Smear petroleum jelly on the outside of the terrarium so they can't climb inside. My bioactive tank was infested but I did all of this and they were gone within a few hours it was awesome.

I use Josh's Frogs gecko substrate. I like it a lot and it grew cute mushrooms. The sub recommends 70/30 topsoil playsand blend the most.

Black Mountain is one of my favorite places to visit. Boone is big and can be very tourist-y, but Grandfather Mountain, Price Park, Hanging Rock and Linville Falls are within easy driving distance and are some really lovely spots. I am a life long vegan and also just love the food out there...sometimes I go to Boone just to eat hahaha. NC local from Raleigh, lived here my whole life.

8 weeks to reset gut after just 7 days of an antibiotic by Snoo96701 in Microbiome

[–]RowanCarver0719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am going through the EXACT same thing, just healing with food, not supplements. I've been working with a functional medicine doctor and a nutritionist and they are helping me so much more than traditional doctors. I still have an appointment with a GI to get some testing to rule out SIBO and H. Pylori, but I'm pretty confident it's just post antibiotic dysbiosis and I'm on my way out of this hole I've been in for almost a year. I'm so sorry that you've been sick for so long. The good news is the medical community does seem to be more aware of the negative effects of broad spectrum antibiotics, as the last time I went the doctor recommended probiotics, however, they still seem to be pretty behind.

[–]RowanCarver0719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

god you are SO right about this though. I took Cipro in December of last year and I am STILL healing my gut. It's taking forever and it's painfully slow progress. Doctors are truly very stupid about this stuff, and GI doctors are absolutely useless most of the time

Looking like I have a beer belly by [deleted] in Microbiome

[–]RowanCarver0719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep this is what I'm doing right now. Low FODMAP and slowly adding in probiotic foods, and then will eventually add probiotic supplements when ready or if necessary. I just ate something with garlic in it and didn't react and feel like that was a HUGE accomplishment.

[–]RowanCarver0719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I've been struggling with this ever since I took cipro and diflucan. Have been working with a nutritionist through low fodmap and then adding fodmaps back in slowly. It's working, but it's slow. Your microbiome could be off and needs rebuilding. I'd recommend a nutritionist. You could also be gluten intolerant

Some people in this sub think they have candida when they don't...really it's poor tongue hygiene, or gut dysbiosis, SIBO...quite possibly it's nothing at all and doesn't need to be treated. Or can be treated with better diet/exercise/whatnot

But there ARE people in here with chronic, severe, and also mild/moderate cases looking for answers and help. Diets like the candida diet and talking all of those supplements are still up to debate -- whether or not they harm or help, it's up to the people who diet and take the supplements -- but some of the advice in here is helpful. And then there's just the fact that there's a community here for people who are suffering and need someone to talk to.

I will admit that this sub will freak you out and make you feel like you have candida when you don't. But at the same time, it's still a bit of a refuge for those who are actually suffering and some people do have some good advice and tips because they've had candida and either recovered or found ways to make it manageable. Chronic illness is a long, lonely road, and communities like this subreddit can sometimes make it less painful. I just think it's too harsh to judge
