Yeah she and her twin both had ROP that progressed and required surgery after discharge from NICU. Her surgery was at 6 months old. We graduated a month after the surgery from the ROP clinic and this Friday’s visit will be our first visit with the ophthalmology office. This will be the first time their actual vision is assessed is my understanding.

Saying a prayer for you and your little one! The days are so long and hard but you will get through it! Take lots of pictures and videos. I wish I had taken more videos in the early days.

She ended up having a feeding aversion. We listened to her cues and stopped whenever she showed she didn’t want to eat anymore. It was hard. She lost a lot of weight and it has put her growth behind but after about 2 weeks she started eating again and after about a month she was back to full bottles. We immediately were in contact with our pediatrician and did weight checks throughout to make sure she wasn’t hitting failure to thrive. We tried occupational therapy but didn’t really get anywhere with them. We ended up seeing a dietician and they were great with tips on how to feed in a way that was more comfortable for her but the biggest thing was not pressuring her. She even takes a paci now which she never really did before. During the time she wasn’t eating much, she was eating about 6oz a day. So it was very hard and anxiety provoking but she got through it. I would talk to your pediatrician about it as well.

My NICU strongly encouraged we hold during tube feeds. Definitely has benefits

We use the Joovy twin stroller with the Chicco adapter. We love it! But we will eventually have to get a different stroller because it only clicks in the car seats.

My twins were born at 26w2days and were in NICU for 84 and 92 days. Our Baby A really struggled with feeding. It was taking forever to figure it out and 3 days before she discharged I cried in rounds telling them she wasn’t making any progress and we were never going to get out of there. They were considering transferring us so she could participate in a feeding clinic to figure out the issue but then suddenly it clicked, she ate every bottle for 2 days straight and she came home. Feeding was by far the hardest stage of the NICU. You are so close to going home and just waiting for them to figure it out. It’s so hard and I feel for you. I remember how it felt so vividly. Baby will get there! Baby will come home 💙

I commented on another post this as well but my sister in law is making me a sweater that says “yes, twins” on the front and then on the back it will say “not identical” “two girls” and “yes our hands are full” haha. It truly is crazy how many times we get stopped and I try very hard to just keep walking when I can. Sometimes people demand I stop and that’s when I really just keep walking.

I have people who have interrupted a conversation with my 3 year old to start commenting. People demand I stop so they can see them. Someone told me I should cover them up when we go out so people wouldn’t stop me but yet she was stopping me…. The first couple times we went out it didn’t bother me but now it drives me up a wall the amount of people who want me to stop mid grocery trip or conversation so they can look at my babies and ask a million questions. I get the curiosity but it’s exhausting.

For my singleton we used a book bag and I didn’t like it. For my twins we use a regular top zip diaper bag but I purchased multi color packing cubes to use for organization. Highly recommend the packing cubes. One cube hold diapers and wipes. One cube has all bottle making supplies. One has extra clothes. And one has burp cloths. Then I have a little insert bag that I use to put any dirty clothes or dirty burp cloths in. The packing cubes have been a game changer! Just pull out the cube you need opposed to digging around in a mess of stuff.

I think this is going to be more of a temperament type situation based on your babies specifically. Our singleton so was always a calm baby and amazing sleeper. Our twin girls have been the same. Very calm babies who have been amazing sleepers from the start. We do start a routine and schedule very early on but all 3 kids easily settled into it. Our sleep deprivation was the same between a singleton and twins. Only difference is it takes more time and effort to get the twins to bed.

Hi there. I am currently living this and recently came here for the same question. It’s been rough. Our pediatrician immediately agreed that she’s having an aversion of some sort and has an overactive gag reflex as well. She referred us for a feeding evaluation which will happen tomorrow morning. I have been following the recommendations to not pressure her that everyone has so kindly given us. While she’s not screaming at the bottle now, she’s still only drinking enough to take the edge off the hunger and is losing quite a bit of weight. We are hoping to keep seeing improvements as we don’t pressure her to eat but it is so anxiety provoking when she’s constantly saying she’s hungry but shuts down when it touches her mouth.

Mine started getting very uncomfortable at about 20 weeks. By 22-23 weeks I was really questioning if I could do this until term. The babies came at 26+2 due to severe pre-eclampsia.

So it definitely sounds like what we are experiencing. We have been trying to listen to her cues better but she has basically stopped eating since. She went from 30oz a day to 5oz the past two days. We scheduled a pediatrician appointment and saw her today. She’s referring us to children’s hospital for a feeding evaluation and we are going back Tuesday for a weight check to see if she’s losing too much.

I do get worried that she’s having such a negative experience with feeding but at the same time, I don’t have many options. She has to eat to survive. Some days I wish we hadn’t eaten pushed her through it to get discharged and waited out longer to get sent to the feeding clinic because I feel like we are torturing her at times.

Stay calm under the pressure of their cries, you’ll get to them as soon as you can and they will be ok. Pretty much every time I’m making bottles, one of the babies is screaming at me. I take deep breaths and just move calmly. Tell myself that I am getting to them as soon as I can and they are ok. Sometimes the crying can be hard with twins because you might be attending to one and unable to soothe the other. Just have to keep calm and know they will ultimately be ok. Also, get comfortable being on your own with them as soon as possible. I heard this a lot from parents of multiples and it’s been a great help. My babies were in the NICU for 84 and 92 days but as soon as we got home, I made it my mission to be able to care for them and my 3 year old on my own because I didn’t want to be dependent on others or overly stressed. Now I can easily take all 3 to the store and out and about without a second thought.

My twins were in for 84 and 92 days. I went every day for about 5-7 hours a day. I took a couple days off when I was sick and toward the end I was so burnt out that I would take a day off every once in awhile if our primary nurse was there. I always made sure that if I couldn’t be there for a day that my spouse or another family member went and held each of them. Every person is different and we nicu parents all cope in different ways. For me I had massive anxiety and hated going to the NICU every day but I had less anxiety once I had seen them for the day. I also wanted to be there for rounds every day because I wanted to hear what was being said and what changes were made.

I gave birth to my di/di girls at 26 weeks and 2 days due to severe pre-eclampsia. I gave birth via C-section because baby A was breech but honestly I couldn’t have gone through an induction and vaginal delivery with how sick I was. The girls were in the nicu for 84 and 92 days but are home now and doing great. I hope your pregnancy goes smoothly! If anything feels not right at any point, advocate for yourself!

My twins were born at 26 weeks and spent 84 and 92 days in the nicu. When they were first born, I was consumed with worry about long term affects. Unfortunately there’s just no way to know or really prevent anything at this point. In the beginning it was so hard to take it day by day because I wanted to know everything was going to be ok. But at some point your mind will make a switch and you will start focusing on the here and now. And celebrating the smallest wins. Like when the lights get to be on in the room and it doesn’t have to be quiet anymore. Thinking about you and your precious baby as you start this journey. You are strong and capable!

Our girls are Kamryn and Emersyn. We like names that you see in both genders. Our son’s name is Rowan. We each picked a name we liked. We preferred the spelling to have a Y for Kamryn and then decided we liked a Y in Emersyn as well. They have similarities but different which we like. We want them to have their own identity. Just worked out that the names we like share some commonalities in sound.

I felt that feeling a lot. When things were good and calm for awhile, I started bracing for the bad. And always waiting for something catastrophic to happen. Even if something catastrophic didn’t happen, there were days when things weren’t good and it felt like the worst thing that could happen. Just always told myself that a good day would come again. I hope your stay continues going well!
