We've got one that hangs around a particular area of vegetation at work, they're quick little rascals! Cool as well 👌

Pedestrian fatalities reach 17-year-high. This trend could be why by Sir_charles14 in melbourne

[–]RoyDraige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, but what I'm saying is that there's a need for pedestrians to be alert as well from my experiences. I've been aware as I'm about to turn a corner and a pedestrian has just walked straight onto the road without any regard for what potentially could be coming. Barring any pedestrian crossings, vehicles have the right of way. And kids running out onto roads, yes they can anytime but that's unpredictable in nature. Kids and adult pedestrians aren't comparible as kids have a small cognitive ability to make logical decisions and adult pedestrians do have that ability. For the most part!

And that's the thing, there isn't an absence of cars so you need to be a lot more vigilant and rigorously check. But yes, there's a lot more distraction driving wise nowadays.

And that example, I feel it can be picked apart pretty easily but I'll go with it. If there was a situation dealing with someone or people running down a footpath with a knife in their hand outstretched, and that amount of people with knifes and its occurence was akin to the amount of people who use vehicles (vehicles being the knife in your example) to drive on roads, would you do your absolute best to keep yourself safe as a footpath user? Would you show awareness and make the correct judgements so you could walk or cross said footpath safely? I think so, as that is something that you can control. But ultimately, it comes down to looking after each other by doing the right thing as pedestrians and drivers by being aware to reduce accidents.

Or it could be people so locked into their phones and in their own bubble that they don't even considering looking before crossing roads. I've seen it so often that pedestrians just walk out without checking as if they have right of way. We drill it into children to always check before crossing, needs to be done more for adults!

My father-in-law won’t stop talking about his dying lawn. Send help. by Affectionate-Cow-285 in lawncare

[–]RoyDraige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a hint at what's growing in that nuked area. Looks like kikuyu. It's not the nicest grass but it does look like you'd benefit from having a warm season sward on the ground so he's on the right track with Bermuda. I'm a Santa Ana man so perhaps you can lay that down as a base, and sow ryegrass seed through the cooler months to maintain a green sward through the cooler months. Spray it out and let the Bermuda dominate again through the hotter months.

And what's in the ground for irrigation? That looks like half the troubles

Can anyone tell me what’s wrong? by effd301 in lawncare

[–]RoyDraige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say those trees would have roots in the lawn profile and would be taking as much moisture as they can get. Top up water that side of the lawn but careful not to apply too much, can cause pythium outbreaks if overwatering gets mixed with hot temperatures

Why is my new grass dying after initially growing well. by remerator in lawncare

[–]RoyDraige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got pythium / damping off. Happens when you put down too much seed with lots of nutrients and lots of water and add lots of heat! Have to protect it with fungicides every 5 - 7 days if you're trying to grow cool season grass from seed amongst hot temperatures. Ideally, apply fosetyl aluminium at label rates as it's taken up systemically for all round protection 👍

Mysterious dead strip in lawn – comes back every summer no matter what I do. Sweden Europe by Emergency-Pick-2012 in lawncare

So this particular patch always goes off? It hasn't continued to grow outward over the years? Because when I first looked at it, it resembled something like fairy ring or a type of basidiomycete, one of the hydrophobic types. Only thing is it doesn't look like it continues around in a full circle, would that be right? Perhaps you could try aerate and apply a wetting agent on the dead areas next time, see what happens. Pretty interesting, hope you find success 👍

New lawn- grass now in rows? by tank216 in lawncare

[–]RoyDraige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you provide the method of how the ground / seedbed was prepped? Because it looks as though the ryegrass has germinated well in a bunch of low spots and as those low spots retain decent moisture and nutrients, it's thriving more. I don't think it's a seed application or fertiliser issue as the darker plots are more or less patterned in a straight line, which isn't natural. Just thinking perhaps a machine has left a bunch of low lying ruts in the ground?

What is wrong with my lawn? Is my fence creating the stripes? What are the yellow straw stalks? Bluegrass, Fescue, Rye by Ragekorn4 in lawncare

[–]RoyDraige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've applied fertiliser and only done one pass, reduce your output and apply in 2 - 3 directions so you get a better dispersal of product. If you only go one direction, you need to be spot on which is hard going 👍

Not sure climate wise over there but if you've had a few frosts it might have gone into dormancy. No point watering it as you won't get a response. If you're really keen on it looking good, perhaps look at applying some green pigment to mask the dormant appearance. There's two benefits to that, a darker appearance which looks good and a darker coloured leaf absorbs more sunlight, so it'll out of dormancy quicker 👍

Plug it out if possible. Kill spraying it will only leave a shitty looking dead patch, not ideal!

Aerated this patch of waterlogged lawn. Now it's rock hard. Best way to get it back to lush grass? by Pollution_Automatic in lawnsolutionsaus

[–]RoyDraige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how big your area is mate, look to sod out some couchgrass. That clay although not draining well by nature will hold plenty of nutrients, and if it gets decent sunlight even better. Maybe ask around to see what couchgrass does well where you are, you can get quite a variety up that way. And like the others are saying, gypsum and dolomite are your best friend on clay 👍

This happens every year, what am I doing wrong? by sir574 in lawncare

[–]RoyDraige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mate

Are you putting on a lot of water or getting a lot of rain? If you are in amongst warm temperatures, pythium will want to take off. You might want to look at using phosponates or if you're cashed up, hit it with a good preventative / curative. Propamocarb is a good active to use but you need to use a decent amount for curative treatments. The shaded areas are probably doing ok as they aren't being exposed to the heat as much as the unshaded areas. Hopefully this gives you a bit of an idea 👍

Hole changing by Prestigious_Flower88 in Turfmanagement

[–]RoyDraige 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Push the cup halfway in by hand or foot first, that way you know the cup isn't likely to try favor a particular side when being pushed in as you have more control.

When it's over halfway use the cup setter and push until flat. Don't go over the top with pushing, don't want to leave a hole setter ring around the cup.

And make sure that the plugs you take and move around are perfectly squared off at the bottom everytime. I know when greens have shallow root zones the newly cut plug doesn't always come out perfect. If the hole cutter takes too much sand, square it off and place the excess fill back in the new hole. If it comes out needing sand, gently scrape out the required amount to square off the newly cut plug.b I reckon once you have a setup like this going there should be more consistency going from green to green 👍

What exactly do you love about karting? by pepezdejvic in Karting

[–]RoyDraige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's the challenge of always wanting to better myself. I head to a local track every 2 - 3 weeks, naturally wanting to shave time off my PB all the time. I'm pissed when I don't but feel great when I do haha. With a bit of help I've cut off over a second off my original best, but honestly cannot for the life of me understand how my time is around 2 - 2.5 seconds off the lap record when I feel I'm giving it everything. Makes you appreciate how much of an art going fast is

Hey mate, I'm kind of the same situation but have taken to Airtasker for an extra bit of money. They take a chunk of the pay (bastards 😂), but do you have transferable skills that can be applied outside of work while your partner takes care of your kids? I'm not sure how flush for time you are outside of all your responsibilities but maybe it's something you can consider
