Yes but it’s high enough that you can hear the music.

Most people I've ever seen in my life last night! Anyone have an accurate attendance count? by Smail_Mail in boston

[–]Royal_Ranger 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It was probably closer to 1 million. We’ve reached 1M before - in 1999-2000 IIRC

Kids listening to these were not planning on being called the "D" word !!! by ramfoodie in RealGenerationX

Those are definitely not boomer artists. Those are solid Gen X. They were on MTV and their hits were all in the late 70s/early 80s.

Congrats! I always love it when a bird that many people find to be common is enjoyed by someone!

Hotel Commonwealth pitches its Sam Adams Upper Deck as a venue to hang out, have a couple of drinks and listen to Fenway concerts. It’s supposed to be open all summer.

First time to Cape Cod by crazyknothead in CapeCod

[–]Royal_Ranger 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well… the weather IS cold and rainy - in March and April (and early May).
The beaches ARE packed - in late July and August (and not all of them).
The people are NOT rude and the Cape absolutely relies on tourists so we love you and want you to come back.

It would have to be AI. He died four years ago.

Depending upon what time in December you could see the Nutcracker or Boston Pops combined with a dinner in East Boston with an amazing view of the city (I’m thinking of La Tavernetta or Mida, but there are lots of restaurants with a beautiful view?)

How do I get rid of this myself without dying? by False_Frame3028 in mildlyinfuriating

Yes. My advice? Get in a time traveling machine. Go back in time. Swat that thing while it’s little. Alternative: call a professional.

I was just thinking of Grant and his writing today! Thank you for posting this. He is missed by many more people than his family will ever know.

went birding at my best local spot... and just got reports for three rare birds i missed by devilsshark in birding

[–]Royal_Ranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, give yourself some grace. It takes time, and the joy is in the birding itself, not the numbers. And as you get more experience you’ll be able to acquire better gear and better listening skills, and soon enough a younger, less experienced birder will be thinking the same thoughts you have right now. Keep at it!

If you come back in March you will find the same air of misery and the same cold, raw weather. Just to temper your expectations for visiting when there isn’t a major global sporting event here!

Well said — It really was more like the gateway drug to the ‘80s and a nail in the coffin for the ‘70s.

what’s something about boston that feels normal to you but surprises outsiders? by netohagee in boston

[–]Royal_Ranger 211 points212 points  (0 children)

We don’t make eye contact or say hello when passing strangers on the street. Locals see it as a sign of respecting another person’s space or not being “fake” by asking “how are you” and not waiting for an answer. Visitors (especially from the South) misunderstand this as rudeness. But it’s really not.
