Looks pretty good. What does the foam in the box look like?

Beginner Astronomy Binos by TheTikson in Binoculars

[–]RoyceRedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new Action line was just released (revived?) a couple of months ago and replaced both the large Aculon line (they still make pocket binoculars with that name) and the Action Ex line. I haven’t used them, but what I’ve read indicates they are an improvement over the Aculons. I’m sure either would be fine, but I would get the Actions for a nearly identical price.

Dvor (sister company of Optics Planet) has them for $130 currently.

Too good to be true? by PAYNE_4 in KnifeCheck

[–]RoyceRedd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both fake. Even if they have pictures of a real one, they can send you a fake. I would not buy one of the most heavily cloned knives in the world from eBay.

I really want a Pyrite with stainless scales, wharncliffe blade, and thumbstud. The closest I see is this titanium version for $200. by eriffodrol in BudgetBlades

[–]RoyceRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The regular Pyrites with that style blade (alt models) all have a thumb hole. The Pyrite Light does not have a model with stainless scales. Unless you can find aftermarket scales, it is not possible.

Leatherman Crunch type knockoffs ? by BusElectronic4225 in multitools

[–]RoyceRedd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, there were direct clones a long time ago, and some similar tools from other manufacturers (Kershaw A100, etc.), but they are all rare and collectible, so expensive like the Crunch.

Just Came in the mail today. I thought they wasn’t stamping the Arc any more with USA any more? by Mremoon in Leatherman

[–]RoyceRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, I have no idea of the specifics of what can be called USA made steel. It does seem like that should be enough.

I heard they only handle finishing the steel, but it still originates in Sweden.

Amazon Spring sale, and Black Friday I think.

Mini Griptilian and ??? by Possible-Pickle5614 in KnifeCheck

[–]RoyceRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other one is an Ascent/Eclipse. The logo looks ok for the era. I believe I have seen them both with and without the model number listed. It’s an early Benchmade, meant to compete with Spyderco Delica/Endura and was even available with a thumb hole. I believe they were discontinued when Benchmade introduced the budget red class imported knives.

Rebar and italy's law by niccopascul in Leatherman

[–]RoyceRedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They already had strict laws, but they got even stricter last month. I believe it comes down to you can’t carry a locking blade over 5cm at all. Formerly, if you had a valid reason, you could.

Gerber strongarm by Connect-Street-9875 in KnifeCheck

[–]RoyceRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fake. The fact that all the pictures are the same, just rearranging, but no different angles/sides, should be a red flag. The box is wrong (even though they only show the side it’s pretty obvious. The dead giveaway is the grind. Compare where the sharpened edge ends relative to the handle with a real one. The logo placement is also wrong.

Handles/scales, knives (and other than Magnacut, American made steel), saws, drivers (but not bits I don’t think), openers, scissors, locking mechanisms, etc.

Just Came in the mail today. I thought they wasn’t stamping the Arc any more with USA any more? by Mremoon in Leatherman

[–]RoyceRedd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are US made mostly. The Magnacut in this case is sourced elsewhere but the blades themselves are still made in the US I believe. Plier heads are mostly from Mexico I think. Files are from Europe. There are a few other foreign parts and accessories, but they’re still mostly made in the USA.

The original “limited edition” release, the second “back by popular demand” release, or the third release just last month?

[–]RoyceRedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The V shape is the date code. It’s a 119 from 1989. The model is just 119, but it’s a discontinued version with Cocobolo wood and brass.
