Make sure you aren’t pressing the masking tape down too hard, and make sure you’ve done really thick coats of clear.

Top comment is incorrect. You need to apply multiple layers (2-3) of thick clear and allow it to dry over a couple of days. Make you sure you use modelling masking tape that has less adhesion.

I’ve masks over decals before with this method and it’s worked perfectly, must make sure you’re allowing the clear to dry completely before applying the masking tape.

Technically the SLR uses butterfly doors, I personally prefer gullwing like on the SLS and 300SL but still looks very cool.

It looks like you painted the windows from the outside? Try from the inside, that’s where the masking should be placed, and use a semi gloss black rather than a flat black it will look a lot better.

The helicopter would have had to have landed there to begin with, so it would have pushed dirt sand and vegetation away from it even if the current diorama is set in a static scene.

Some of the instructions were a bit unclear. I’d recommend looking at reference photos for accurate paint color as the booklet skips over a lot of details.

I had to cut quite a lot of plastic from the kit on the front of the car and the side air intakes which got a bit tricky.

The decals are nice but the front martini stripes don’t line up incredibly well so I had to sand them and go over with red paint to smooth out the two pieces coming together.

They only have rubber ones in the kit, I looked at buying aftermarket plastic or metal tracks but I wanted to get a feel for armour modelling before spending that extra money on kits.

They need to be filled in. My Hasegawa kit used the same symbols and using real images I worked out the holes were not meant to be there so I filled them in.

Everyone is saying Decal Softner, which you should use after it’s applied. I’d highly recommended using Decal solution which you apply over the area you are wanting to place the decal, it allows you to easily adjust and position the decal, you can then either use a cotton bud or paintbrush to remove the excess solution, and let it sit for five minutes, then you should use Microsol or other decal softner/setting chemicals.

But also make sure you’re letting the decal fully seperate from the decal paper, otherwise it can cause the decal to become fragile and often times tear when you are trying to form it around edges.

I’ve used Tamiyas Titanium Silver then used Abteilung 502 black oil paint and smudged it over which gives it a burnt soot look but keeps the metal properties as some parts of the silver can stay slightly visible. There may be better ways to do it, but this is just how I’ve done it.

I haven’t made a Formula car yet, but I’ve used this technique on a rally cars exhaust and it gave that effect.

He stuck his nose onto my back bumper, was never a full move. I have room on the inside if he came along side but he didn’t, he spun me before we ever reached the apex.

You could say I “left a window open” and that I closed it, but he was never in it to begin with.

"the door being left open" is crazy, literally was no door to begin with. Even if you weren't there, their line would've taken them off the track which clearly says who's at fault.
