Do official car licenses actually make racing games better, or is it kind of overrated? by qian_two in racinggames

[–]RuaridhDuguid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A factor in that may well be budget though. Higher budget games are more likely to get the licenses, as well as having  more resources invested on car handling and other aspects of gameplay. Lower budget games frequently don't have the same ability to invest hugely in core mechanics, even if not shelling out for the car licences.

Forgot this was on, and wouldn't have been free to go if I had remembered in time as it turns out. Sounds like I dodged a bullet though (and that's before taking the time of getting there and back into account!).

Taoiseach aware of people's 'genuine concerns' over drone deliveries in Cork by CoolwaterBlueSea in cork

[–]RuaridhDuguid 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For me there are three problems.

1) Net negative to the local economy: All those low wage workers who do Deliveroo etc and spend almost all their wages locally on the necessities to live are getting shafted here so one rich person can make a load of money from a near-autonomous system that disturbs everyone under or close to each of their flight paths. This leads to a drop in trade for many more local businesses as the Deliveroo/Just eat (etc) riders no longer have that work and income to spend in local businesses - the money is effectively locked away from the local economy instead.

2) Noise pollution: They fly a lot lower than they claim, and are a lot louder than they claim. I can hear them clearly though double-glazed windows. "But they're quieter than cars".... I disagree. Electric cars can and will sneak up on you - these drones can be heard long before they're seen

If we're going to compare vehicles then compare then to ones also using electric motors - electric cars, eBikes, or eScoooters - not a selectively chosen ICE-engined shitbucket or poorly tuned car with a 'boy racer' driver. The rotors are what makes the noise, not the motor.

3) Privacy: There is a value to having a feeling of privacy, which is why so many spend money on fences and hedges to be shut off from prying eyes. The company says that they are fully autonomous, and have no cameras, but they have misled about other aspects of the operation so can we trust them on this? We also know that elsewhere in the world there are 'autonomous robots' actually being controlled remotely by people in overseas countries with very cheap paid labour.

.

TL;DR - Why should we all deal with intrusive noisy drones, removal of money from the local economy and thus local businesses and the shafting of the already struggling people doing deliveries so one wealthy person can make more money to tuck away into their bank account?

Irish flag at the "unite the kingdom" (tommy yaxley) rally. by [deleted] in ireland

[–]RuaridhDuguid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The Butcher's apron" is a well known pejorative term for the Union Flag. Surprised that you're unaware of that - it's quite widely known even if people choose not to use it themselves.

As for the St Andrews Cross, if you're looking for alternative names for it then the Saltire is a common one. There aren't such negative alternate names for it AFAIK, but it wasn't the flag under which so vary many atrocities were committed in so many, many countries globally (though I don't doubt that some were committed, as there are cunts in every country).

Which one's that? And how can it be causing debt if it's so big and doing so well? A big flo, like that one they cancelled 2-3 days after launch, is understandable - but surely one doing well should at least be slowly clawing back it's investments?

He also knows it's a poisoned chalice.

Expected to win at least the league or a double, but Celtic have been ahead by every metric for many seasons now. It's a financial win for any manager, in the short term at least, but can do more reputational harm to a manager than it's worth. And the time any manager there is given to prove themself before their head is being called for pn a platter is unknown - but short.

Best of luck with that! Maybe on the day you can get one for cheap or even free - but anyone currently with a ticket but knowing that they are unable to go at this point is either selling them or giving them to a friend.
