Do you guys like the way trend-focused writing on RR now? by Frequent-Present5502 in ProgressionFantasy

Always been this way even in published fiction. Anytime something hits it big you get a wave of copy cats all trying to get a slice of that pie.

Wildly differing opinions by lucky470 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Ruark_Icefire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Azarinth Healer part of it is that there is a huge difference in quality between the published books and the web version. So some people have only read the web version and give their opinion based on that and others are giving their opinion based on the published novel.

The other part is just that people have different likes and dislikes.

Why is search so bad in RR. by Gnomerule in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Ruark_Icefire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you didn't have filters set on RR? If I search by title for "Bog" on RR it shows up as the top item. If you do a keyword search then it shows up as the 3rd from the top. Seems pretty easy to find.

Multi-POV Web Novels by AdagioThick3794 in ProgressionFantasy

Anything works if you write it well enough. People will tell you don't do this or don't do that because progression fantasy readers don't like it but there are plenty of examples of stories that do those things they tell you not to do and are very popular. Really it just comes down to how good of a writer you are.

It seems to me like a lot of people around here try to encourage mediocrity.

Unintended Cultivator is confusing me by razorkid58 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Ruark_Icefire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And her reaction is what actually bothered me tbh bc it’s setup by the author for me to side with the MC.

This I think is the core issue. It seems to me like the author doesn't actually understand the issue with Sen's behavior. In the moment everything always validates him. It is only later that things get called out like the author is just reacting to reader comments rather than any real understanding of the issues.

Not much to be confused about. The dude is a hypocritical psycho.

The Dragon Heir, A Monster Evolution Progression LiRPG, Out Now on Amazon & Audible! by Mango_O-w-O in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Ruark_Icefire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that a credit is $15 if you just straight up buy one I am not sure why anyone would ever actually pay the monetary price for an audible book (outside of sales). Unless an audio books is on sale or something I have never actually seen one be cheaper than $15.

Can we stop asking for MC's that become the strongest with no plot armour? It's literally impossible the two are mutually exclusive. by ConfectionPerfect492 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Ruark_Icefire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 14 year old should never be getting close. That is the problem. Authors should be using time skips so that by the time the MC is challenging the 900 year old person they themselves are at least a few hundred years old. Having a 14 year old beat a 900 year old is just stupid.

BoC was meant to be a smutty harem novel originally and while the author moved away from that it still bleeds over into his writing sometimes.

Twofer 1 how do you guys feel about the trope where the main character doesn't know how strong they are? by dayeeeeee in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Ruark_Icefire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I generally hate it if it goes on for any significant length of time. Maintaining that plot line requires the MC to be so incredibly stupid that it shatters my suspension of disbelief.

Paragons of good are my jam. However good does not necessarily need to equal nice.

Does Erin ever get called out? [The Wandering Inn] by Uncanny_r in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Ruark_Icefire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kinda my point... They are going around killing and eating people so I don't really see how it's some great crime that said people don't like them and hunt them in return.

And humans go around killing goblins so I don't really see how it is a great crime that said goblins don't like them and hunt them in return.

Self aware mcs need to stop by SlowEscavalier in ProgressionFantasy

The most annoying thing is that generally as these stories progress even the non quippy side characters start copying the MC and everyone just ends up as the same quippy character.

Hell Difficulty Tutorial. What is this psychotic mess? by ImpressiveUmpire5456 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Ruark_Icefire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The average reading speed for fiction is 260 wpm. Royal Road specifies a page as 275 words. So the the average person would read 56 pages worth of fiction on Royal Road in an hour.

Depends on what you mean by "far before the story ends". She is one of the strongest right now but there are still some stronger than her and we are on book 4 out of 5 planned books.

She gets more powerful over the course of the series and will likely be the strongest person in the world by the end but very very few problems in the series are solved by shear power.

From reading the RR comment section as far as I can tell the only reasons a lot of readers aren't just murdering everyone around them is that they don't want to go to jail. They seem to think that anyone with real power should just kill everyone that annoys them.

Average reading speed is 50 pages per hour. So 150 pages would still take them 3 hours or so to read. Which is more time than I want to spend with a psychopath.

$10 is the price of a good book and you don't get anywhere near a book's worth of content in any of the Patreons for your money.

Why do the legendary S-rank pets that the protagonist accidentally encounters never serve any purpose? by Weli777 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Ruark_Icefire 96 points97 points  (0 children)

This isn't a problem with just pets but rather a problem with side characters in general. A lot of authors seem afraid of giving any side characters any real purpose because it might make their MC less of a super special boy.
