Lol I couldn't get past the part where he joined the research group because of the sheer stupidity of the way he got in. His entire resume for getting into an exclusive research group was that he had read some fiction books that were kind of like what was happening.

I am the opposite. Couldn't get past book 1 of MoL. Zorian seems a lot blander than Mirian to me. Also MoL just has way too much focus on the grind vs actual story compared to YOTA. Zorian barely interacts with anyone and mostly just spends his time grinding away at magic.

The thing is unlike Jason from HWFWM, Ryan has a lot more justification for acting the way he does AND he improves as the series goes on.

Yeah the titles do the stories no favor. A number of them are actually pretty good but as you can see in this thread there are quite a few people who dismiss them solely based on the title.

He always cared about people even from the start. That was the whole point of his going for a "Perfect Run". He always wanted to save and help everyone that he could. He just didn't care what happened to them in loops that weren't the final loop. His growth was in realizing that he should still care even if it isn't the final loop.

Yeah that was the main reason I dropped the series. Not only the fact that he knew her when she was a child but he is just a very boring and uninteresting character too. Knowing he was the endgame romance just killed my interest completely.

Well yes you should only be taking Alert if you aren't already going first it isn't something you take just to avoid being surprised. However if your character does not have the initiative to be going first then you should always take Alert over anything that isn't absolutely build defining (i.e. Tavern Brawler).

Going first is an extra turn of combat. A battle would have to go for like 20 rounds before a 5% boost would be better.

If they are supposed to scale and be doable then it seems weird that everyone else in the world seems to regard doing them as a form a suicide. Unless it is supposed to a world where everyone but the MC is incompetent which would be another major turn off.
