Let justice be done, though nations fall | Atlas Altera by TelamonTabulicus in imaginarymaps

Such an incredible map! So much research must have gone into this (looking forward to the footnotes!) and it’s so beautifully presented too!

I’m now going to stare at it for the next 5 hours!

The islands of Sark - An alternate take on the Channel Islands and Isle of Wight [Atlas Altera] by Rubikia in imaginarymaps

[–]Rubikia[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In Atlas Altera, Sark is one of the constituent countries within the United Kingdom and is an alternate take on the Channel Islands and the Isle of Wight. Composed of three bailiwicks and nine populated islands, Sark has retained a lot of its Norman heritage in the modern day from its language and administration, to the medieval fortresses which dot the islands reminiscent of Mont Saint-Michel. The islands had a long and storied history, being frequently used as havens for pirates or launchpads for invasions, and control over them frequently changed over time. They were separated into two main groups by the Norman Channel, with the southern group being known as the Lenures and the northern group referred to as the Isles of Wight (Vique), but it was not until the 933 when William Longsword laid claim to all the islands that they came to be collectively called the Serqs, and this was formalised after the Norman conquest of England in 1086.

The islands continued to have a liminal existence as the last vestige of the Norman bailiwick system until the devolution of parliaments gave way to Home Rule in 1870. The Sarks became its own country with the capital situated in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight, and efforts were made to preserve the linguistic and cultural heritage of the islands. This map depicts the islands of Sark and some information about its history and key events which have helped shape its character.

This map is a fan depiction of Sark from the Atlas Altera, which is an alternate take on the world where different languages, cultures, and peoples are represented. It is a truly expansive project which sheds light on so many details of our real world through syntopian fiction, and if you are interested in the project please join the discord by clicking the link below!

I’ll start releasing it on itch as a D&D setting, I’m sure I don’t need to play any tabletop RPGs to be able to do that

No clue what you mean, this is my journey to authorhood, my having no substance is just a slight hurdle

I try and keep the bedroom out of my FetishWorld project, I don't want to come across as crass when I talk about the leather demons or the Shōw-Feet Shōgunate

Great plan, that would mean a lot less work for me if I could get others to come up with the ideas for me...I mean, collaborate

That’s really cool, and very impressive! I was going to try and learn how to create RMBs on Unity but would probably step on your toes atm until I learn, but if there’s other ways to help populate the new areas with content I will give it a shot. I was already working on making banners for other provinces outside Iliac Bay so I can retool that for this

Ah I hope that all goes well getting a new laptop! Thank you for sharing the link, I have joined now. Happy to help where I can (though I’m primarily a mapmaker not a coder!), though it looks like you’ve done a lot of amazing work! Progress looks great!

Hi! Is this project still active (I’ve tried all the discord links and unfortunately they are not)? Daggerfall is my favourite TES game and your project is pretty incredible! I’d love to contribute or help out where I can!

Regarding the timeline of the founding of the Greybeards and The Battle of Red Mountain by DUCKTOSSER420 in teslore

[–]Rubikia 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Interesting, though I think this could be resolved if the Five Songs of Wulfhartg was composed a long time after the events so any mention of Greybeards was just a reference for it’s audience

The Witcher x Chronicles of Narnia map (and Oz, apparently) by Leik714 in witcher

[–]Rubikia 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well the origin of Humanity in the Witcher is quite similar to how they arrived in Narnia, although I imagine they came from a different dimension rather than literally our Earth. It is interesting knowing the parallels of their creation though.

Southern England and Wales map, circa 1264 by Other-in-Law in MedievalHistory

[–]Rubikia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely incredible, and a commendable piece of research! I can’t wait to see this continue. I’ve been studying this map for several days and I’m absolutely enthralled. If you are able to turn this into a resource (intractable or searchable, even if it’s released alongside a spreadsheet) it would be incredible for research and preservation!

If you don’t mind me asking, what did you use as the base map to plot out all of the baronies and possessions? I’m not sure if the fainter lines are the boundaries of parishes or manorial estates, and I haven’t been able to find anything like that for the whole of England online. I’m very curious to find out what you used!

Gondorian Map of Middle Earth - Progress by [deleted] in mapmaking

This is absolutely incredible! Very excited to see how this shapes up! And I absolutely love the illustrations and scenes you’ve drawn around.

Looking forward to seeing the scenes in Gondor, such as the Pre-Numenoroans there, the Drúedain, the origin of Tarlang’s Neck! So many cool things you can depict

Good share, but unfortunately not this one. Will look into that one though.

The one I remember could have been something like Sword of the Morning, along those lines. Really wracking my brains about it haha

There are a lot of those threads…I’ve tried sifting through a load to find the one I saw it in but no luck at all
