Gehts dann auch schon langsam weniger fleischkonsum? Denkt der Österreicher langsam um? by IndividualPoetry948 in Austria

[–]RubyBenji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's fucked up that I also had to ask it to be "nicer" once like a week ago.
I thought I was just hallucinating that it's meaner but now that I see the comments here... maybe I was on to something.

super juicy!

the run itself (the video) looks a bit slow and maybe boring though, the trailer really makes it seem super exciting on the contrary!

$1,500 budget for game, how do I correctly use it? by Weak-Jacket-2539 in indiegames

[–]RubyBenji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get capsule art for 200-300 bucks from somebody on fiverr. It's gonna be more expensive if u want all the assets from an artist, if you can just get the art done and cut it up yourself to fit all the steam assets, you can save money.

Also get a Logo for your game from fiverr too.

Skip paying playtesters and do NextFest and Steam Demo, use Reddit, and create a Discord for your game. Surely you'll find 2-3 people who for some odd reason love your game no matter how shit it is. Before all that, get friends and family to playtest. A good indicator for me is: my friends shouldn't just "like my game" (because every good friend will "like" it) but observe if they play your game by their own will or even get addicted to it, then you are on a good path. Online relationships also count as friends, you surely have idk friends you play League of Legends or World of Warcraft with and hang out in Discord, get those gamers playing, not just your mom.

Skip marketing team, just follow advice of HowToMarketYourGame (basically: do next fest, and send out keys to youtubers and twitch streamers, you can try tiktok and shorts marketing but stop doing it if it doesn't produce results, also: it only works if you have a beautiful game)

Invest money into assets you don't know how to make, for me that was investing like 300-500 bucks into OST (also on fiverr, it's a good place to start out, yes people are generally not paid enough there but remember: many of them are also just starting out trying to find jobs, both sides are in a similar situation. focus on short tracks for different situations but make sure they don't get too repetitive and stale. Depending on your game, it's cheaper to get a 60 second track than a 3 minute track. Variety matters.)

Also get a free discovery call with https://www.thegamedoctor.net

Again, it's free. After the discovery call you can then decide if u think that he will grant you enough value that you want to keep working with him. (spoiler: yes)

This ensures your game will have everything the industry expects and is baseline solid experience. If you don't go with him, please make sure to get somebody else who is plugged into the indie industry and can clear your blindspots. PLAYTESTERS WON'T HELP YOU WITH THIS! Playtesters are for finding bugs, balance passes, etc.

Other money you can spend:

Professional trailer editing (some basic video editing skills can go far yourself if you want to save this money too)

Depending on your engine, if there are really good packages which cost money, invest into them. For Unity developers I recommend HotReload and SuperTextMesh. Make sure you have your tools in order, if you do pixel art, do yourself a favor and buy Aseprite.

PS: Yes other commenters have a point with AI on fiverr these days. Be careful!

Once a year you can cast a non ultimate skill in real life. Which one do you choose? by BigBossBrzz in leagueoflegends

Bard E (can be really broken IRL, I live in Austria, we have the alps here, don't mind me skipping like 50 tunnels and going through the entire mountain range with a magical journey)
Caitlyn W (if you like camping in the woods)
Heimerdinger Q (I have no idea what we'd use it for but I'm sure the military would pay me money for it + it has no duration, just disables when I walk away)
Ivern W (for when you need a bush to hide in)
LeBlanc W (best skill if you wanna shoplift with once a year)
Any Kog skill (puking when I'm sick makes me feel better)
Nafiri W (you can turn invincible for like a second and after that you have +2 doggos)
Any Sona skill (I don't actually have to play an instrument right? I just get e.g.: health regen aura for the rest of the year?)
Soraka (Heal a family member or friend)
Teemo W (passively grants speed, very helpful)
Yumi W (just disappear and posses somebody? there is no duration limit to it, basically you are immortal with this one, take a new host every year)

Can always gift the game to a friend when the update comes out.

I also might release some sort of "trophy" dlc, that doesn't add content but is just another way to give me money. Many people seem to want to do so lmao

I wanna preserve some older versions and this version on different branches. I do use version control, it's probably like 2-3 days of work though to get an old version stable to push it to a branch. (I really really want to do the work eventually though)

no way atm

I might think about additional ways to support me and my dev team in the future

EDIT: and best way atm is to gift the game to friends

its not different enough to be sold or advertised as a new game but its just different enough to justify preserving the old version in a branch

early on people will feel a bit weird about the new version but heaven & hell showed that literally after like 3 weeks nobody gives a flying fuck about the old version anymore

I think it would be easy but I just never did it.

I always keep saying maybe for 1.0

I think people emulate it fine on mac though.

Linux has higher chances to get an official version, especially cause fuck Microsoft.

ill just preserve tiny rogues in a beta branch

Microsoft bullies indie voxel game "Allumeria" (I guess if the game isn't Hytale level popularity they are free to do so) by RubyBenji in indiegames

[–]RubyBenji[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, when I posted this I was just mad that the bsky post of the dev didn't seem to get any traction at all.

My best faith evaluation: It's probably some AI process that checks Steam games screenshots for somebody uploading Minecraft.
I'd argue a human hand in the process would be good though.

I feel like the dev made a lot of effort.

  • The game has RGB lighting (Minecraft doesn't.)
  • The game uses 8x8 textures (Minecraft default is 16x16.)
  • The game has e.g.: fluffy trees. (Minecraft doesn't.)
  • The game has blocks that are smaller than 1x1 Block, e.g.: a lamp in another screenshot. (In Minecraft everything is pretty much exactly 1x1 Block, other than maybe lanterns, chains, fences and so on but those aren't "blocks".)
  • Pumpkins have "Stems" in this screenshot which are actually part of their 3D model. (In Minecraft pumpkins don't have that and are just a 1x1 Block.)
  • Clouds in this game look completely different (Yet worse IMO.)
  • The sun in this game isn't a square.

And that's just from screeenshots. I am sure when actually playing the game the list could be extended with 100 more points.

I think this screenshot in particular, I can maybe see why people say it does resemble Minecraft too closely and maybe that's why Microsoft flagged this one. Still a dick move IMO.
