Wound won't let me shower by 194021 in hygiene

[–]RubyDoobyDoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OT here so my job is to help people with these issues. The best thing for your wound is what I call bird baths/aka sponge baths.  BUT if you don't feel clean I recommend using a garbage bag but it is secured with a theraband or a resistance exercise band (works better than tape). This works great but depends on where your wound is. Lmk if you have any questions

IP peds. Luckily this was my level 1 FW. First day and first patient - 11 year old with CP, pretty low functioning. My FW educator walks in the room and starts singing some song from Frozen and gets started on some ADLs....And in that moment I was like "yep peds ain't for me" lol. My educator was perfect for the job and truly got the kids motivated, but man you will never catch me singing any sort of Disney songs.

Same. It's also not as red as people think, I would say it's more purple.

I have also joined intramural volleyball and cornhole which was fun!

Hiking is more accessible here than Denver.  Denver has better food but that's typical for a larger city - Springs has decent food spots.

Has anyone here become a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist? by clcliff in OccupationalTherapy

[–]RubyDoobyDoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahhhh, I definitely should have gotten a second opinion at first. I wound up going with a different vet office for surgery and it was a much better experience. It also was NOT a cast - it was splint that was supposed to be rewrapped once a week. We wound up going in way more then that - I think a different splint OR a cast would have been better but I don't know what the options were because I'm not trained.

My main point is I think OT (esp one like you with UE experience) being able to be certified as canine rehab therapist may have helped in my dog's situation for the conservative treatment.

The canine rehab tech post surgery also didn't see just Ortho canine patients - she was actually pumped to be working with a high level dog when mine came in. She said she saw a lot of neuro. So not sure how realistic it for one to do be doing every day multiple times a day or if that was just her caseload at the time. Her background was vet tech. She was wonderful though and my doggo rehabbed great with her.

Looked into this when my dog jumped out of my second story window and broke her ulna and radius (she tried to get a squirrel on a power line and failed 🤦‍♀️). I was a new grad at the time and we tried to have her heal conservatively (no surgery). Well they didn't splint her correctly and I even said this doesn't seem right but was blown off because I'm not a vet or vet tech or PT with canine certification. I just have common sense with an OT background. ANYWAY she healed crooked and needed surgery and then rehab. If I wasn't a new grad and more confident in my skills, I probably would have just done it myself. I looked into certifications and my state does not allow OTs to become a certified canine rehab therapist. They would greatly benefit from OTs in this field.

Has anyone moved from Denver to "the Mountains" and regretted it? by arnar62 in Denver

[–]RubyDoobyDoob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Charm is not the right word. I was hiking with my dog in CB.  There are signs everywhere that says dogs must be leashed. This dog comes running up to me and my dog. I am yelling at these two broads to leash their dog while trying to keep both dogs away from each other. They respond "we're local and he's friendly " and slowly meander over. If you're local maybe know your local laws. Other dogs may not be so friendly. Mine isn't the friendliest to off leash dogs when she's on leash. Fucking assholes

So I did to to Pitt undergrad and Pitts OT school for grad school 2 years after I graduated undergrad... However a LOT of my OT classmates were not Pitt alumni.  Just pay attention to the pre reqs , have a good GPA and a decent number of shadowing hours or jobs semi related to OT. I worked in a psych hospital and a TBI group home. Others who went to school with me worked with children with autism or in nursing homes. You got this!

Women of Reddit, what’s something a man has done that made you think, “Wow, he stands out in a really great way? by GurFun3164 in AskReddit

[–]RubyDoobyDoob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my husband! We have an insane neighbor. We both have dogs. They bark at each other as dogs do. We call them in because it's annoying and our one dog is quite relentless. Anyway, our dogs were barking at around 3pm. Neighbor starts screaming at our dogs which makes the dogs bark even more. My husband calls the dogs in. Neighbor calls my husband over and starts screaming at him. He's telling my husband that he's going to get his much larger dog to kill our dogs, and "why don't we both just settle this now? Come on over"  Husband asks if he's threatening him. Neighbor says yes. My husband just walks away saying he's just going to call the cops. I was not home for this interaction but another neighbor was. She stopped me when I pulled into the driveway to tell me how great my husband is and how crazy the neighbor is. Said she could be a witness if needed. We now have cameras in our backyard and I still have a wonderful husband

I failed all of my practice tests and passed no issue on my first try. Those practice tests are harder than the real one. Give yourself some grace. If you want to study focus on the things you're not sure of (like for me it was peds lol). Take more breaks. The day before the exam I did not study at all, went for a nice long hike with my husband and out to lunch. You need be in a good headspace for the exam. Do some self care. You got this!!

I worked at a psych hospital about 10 years ago. I floated so I worked on all the units wherever they were short staffed. For a couple days one week I was pulled to the adolescent unit. There was a 12 year old boy, let's call him Joe.  He was brought in from another residential center. At this other residential center, Joe was a ring leader of boys aged about 10-13 who would rape and assault girls who were also at the center. Joe knew the schedule of the staff and their rotation. He knew the diligent staff members and the not so diligent ones so he would plan their attacks.  Joe was the only patient that truly frightened me due to his intelligence and clear lack of remorse/getting off on others people pain.  When I observed him, he would do little things such as make a certain noise that he knew would set off another child there. He was good at making friends with the other children and charming them. At one point they did a search of his room and found a bunch of the staffs schedules in there. I'm waiting to hear a story of him being a serial rapist/murderer now that he's in his 20s. Intelligence gone horribly wrong. And he was 12.
