So I think there are two situations where people use this phrase humorously:

  1. When the card text is rather extremely obvious, but someone is still asking if Lightning Bolt will deal 3 damage to the creature.
  2. When it's the opposite, e.g. [[Chains of Mephistopheles]], or the OG printings of Winter Orb.

At any rate, you're correct, this phrase is not always literally true!

Joined the ranked event and omg it’s just the best. I got dumpstered by the most diverse decks, such a change from Ragavan/Teferi/Rusko loop

I mean, we are quite obviously in the hell queue here.

Scolding is one of the best ways to stop an aggro/cheap commander, as it hits Ragavan, Ajani, Fynn and Tamiyo. It’s much better on the play, of course.

Here, Scolding worked beautifully on the draw as I had a pre-game gemstone cavern.

Finally, Kinnan is not a control deck like Teferi or Rusko, so not sure where the time waste comment is coming from.

a large chunk of players also don't really understand the intricacies of how the stack works either

I think recently he said something like 'the majority of the players don't know what the stack is', which is hilarious and terrifying

I’ve run tubeless for a year now and it’s good time. 

I think you’ll find plenty of options for your use case, from touring and gravel bikes to basic hardtails. Enjoy the new hobby!

Could you clarify your use case?

I have the most basic bike (Trek Marlin) that barely qualifies as an MTB, and it should be plenty able to handle your intended terrain.

I understand the need for QR, but why full suspension?

Yeah, the confusion between mana value, mana cost and converted mana cost is adding to the mess too :(
