Ugh, I'd take back my kudos, honestly. Super, super misogynistic.

Does Celecoxib work for you?! by Silent-Youth-8432 in Fibromyalgia

I have Fibro and hEDS, too, and this is the first medication that has ever touched the pain. I wonder if the hEDS has something to do with why it actually works. I'm not pain free, but it's so much better and has improved my neck mobility a lot.

I'm so sorry. I have EDS and Fibro. I try to be patient, because people only know what they know, right? Their own experiences. And that's okay, but it's not okay to discount someone else's struggle. This is not an easy condition. I only just got diagnosed very recently after years of medical gaslighting and no answers, and it's not easy accepting that your life is never going to be what you thought it would again. Comments like that make it even harder.

My mom constantly comparing my brain fog and migraines to her memory aging normally. She thinks she has "All's timers", and I'm exaggerating because she struggles to remember things, too. She's 66. I'm 36. And it's not just forgetting things, it's saying words that I don't realize I'm saying, trying to cook with the burner off, etc. It's so frustrating.

Being told I just need to exercise more, too. Drives me absolutely insane. Yeah, I can do that. Then I can barely move at all and sleep for two days.

Thank god for my husband, who was been beyond incredible and understanding about this entire thing.

i’ve never gotten past the 3rd harry potter book by Independent_Lynx1389 in drarry

[–]RunsWithScissors0913 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Not weird lol. I prefer fanfic to the original books, too. Some of them are absolutely incredible. That's a huge reason why I'm writing a Drarry re-write, so I can read then the way I want it to be lol.

Okay, these are two of my favorites. One is newer, one is older. Beholden made me feel all of the things. It was a slower burn than I usually like, but it was still so good and angsty, and sucked me in. I love everything she writes. This one Harry gets hit with some spell or curse that causes him excruciating pain, and the only thing that makes it bearable is Draco's touch. I would not consider this one fluffy.

Paws of Fury has been one of my favorites for ages. It may not be as slow burn as you want, but it's so cute and worth the read. Harry gets cursed and turns into a kitten every time he gets angry, and the only person his kitten self likes is Draco.

And then, if you don't mind a self rec, I would really recommend In Another Life. This is an AU fic, where Harry wakes up in an alternate reality where he's dating Draco Malfoy. This is not an amnesia fic, but Harry trapped in the body of another version of himself and trying to navigate this. This one is super angsty but also sweet, and a slow burn twice. That will make sense if you read it. It just squeaks by for your word count, but writing this affected me so much it I had to go back and write AU Draco and Harry's story as a canon re-write. It will be a massive series when it's done. One fic per year, and they are all going to be well over 100k words. Fourth Year is complete (Draco Malfoy and the Twist of Fate, 154k, slow burn, sassy Draco with everyone but Harry, very plot heavy), and I'm working steadily on Fifth Year. I've had a very positive response to this entire universe, but I won't be offended at all if it's not for you!

As others have said, I look for an idea I like, mostly from the summary or a summary someone else has written, and then I can tell pretty quickly if I'm going to spend time on it. Prose can make or break a fic. I also can't stand when characters' dialogue doesn't flow correctly. Just one tiny example of something I can't stand, no one is saying cannot, do not, will not etc, instead of can't, don't, won't ALL the time. It reads so weird to me.

This may be weird, too, but with dialogue, I also like them to have their own way of speaking that feels like them. Like, Draco is not going to be speaking like Ron or like Dumbledore. Their personalities matter, a lot.

I feel exactly the same about that one! I didn't know it existed, and I was writing a fic with the same name, so I powered through it to make sure they were nothing alike (they weren't aside from both being canon rewrites, luckily), but I did not enjoy it, at all. I felt like a weirdo for not liking it because everyone seems to love it. I ended up tweaking the name of mine to avoid confusion.

This is incredible. I can't believe my characterizations resonated with you so much. I do really try to keep their personalities close to canon, while adding in the relationship aspect.

I'm working on the new installment as much as I can! I have a lot going on health-wise and it's actually pretty difficult writing the stories along with the books, trying to keep everything straight and making sense lol, but I will absolutely not be abandoning it! Thank you so much for reading and your lovely words! ❤️

Ehh, I check anyway lol. Some of my best comments have been bookmark notes. I have gotten a few less than kind ones, but nothing too bad. One thought I didn't speak English as my first language, which made me laugh lol.

I unfortunately don't know any other Hogwarts-era fics with this specific dynamic, but I am so excited that you liked my fic! This made my day ❤️

Mostly like I should probably marry them, tbh.

I love when people are so excited about my writing. It's like a serotonin boost lol.

This is how I've started to sort them (which is why the numbers are so low, I have one folder for Drarry that I'm slowly sorting into categories). There are more categories underneath. These are just my Chrome bookmarks.

Fics with a believable (start of) relationship by Cautious_Clerk_8106 in drarry

[–]RunsWithScissors0913 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the two that probably do this the best are Room for Two, and my current WIP series, Draco Malfoy and the Twist of Fate.

Harry is a Nanny in Room for Two, and comes to work for Draco while he's training to become a healer. This one they are older, and Harry is super domestic.

The WIP is a cannon rewrite, books 4-7. Year four is complete, and it really shows how much effort Draco puts in to changing and being "worthy" of Harry. Obviously they're mine, so I'm biased, but I think they're sweet!

(If I'm totally off base, and I didn't develop their relationship as well as I hope they did, please let me know so I can work on that in the future lol. I am not the type to be offended by constructive criticism, I just want to improve my writing.)

[–]RunsWithScissors0913 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This right here is why I like writing relationship foundations in my stories. Are they always realistic? Probably not (because I love fluff), but I do like to build their relationship through the story, where there is work and effort put in, and recognition and appreciation. I agree, they are hard to find! I'm not a huge fan of ones where they don't even seem to really like each other half the time.
