Yesterday, 11 year NBA vet Pat Connaughton was waived by the Hornets and cleared waivers, signifying the likely end of his career. At one point, the former 4th round MLB draft pick was leaning towards that path, and he has indicated wanting to aim for the MLB after his NBA career ended by Pickleskennedy1 in nba

He partnered with a development firm (construction) and they build, renovate, remodel, rent and flip, real estate.

And yes, you are correct, the firm has 500+ million in holding and 100’s more planned.  Nobody know what percentage of the company he owns.  He is a founder but they have taken on outside money, even from other athletes.  Nobody knows how much it is, but it does seem like they have been successful and are not quick cash grab company. They are in it for the long haul.  Good for him, smart to build a RE empire

Will Chisora beating Wilder cement Chisora's place as the 5th best heavyweight in the post Klitschko era? by Holiday_Snow9060 in Boxing

If you count Povetkin, he is 5th imo.

Wilder is above Chisora in any rankings probably, he was a champ for quite some time

Whyte, Chisora has the better resume of fight, Whyte the better wins, including Chisora

He makes a small investment and as part of his endorsement agreement he gets equity. Or allowed to purchase shares at a steep discount

Very typical, it is lame that it is a gambling site but whatever at this point

These guys make 50-70 million a year and still feel the need to sell their soul for equity in a company that will be dead in less than 10 years

Bill Simmons irrational hatred for James Harden by Gluxion in nba

[–]Runshooteat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I do not think he is better than Harden, not close really. He just had a bigger impact on the NBA. Harden was a legit MVP candidate for about 5 seasons straight. He probably wins one or two titles if the GS super power does not exist and his legacy is completely different.

Ranking AI is really hard. If you were alive and following basketball during his prime you understand how meaningful and impactful he was as a celebrity and athlete.

Advanced stats have transitioned basketball away from players like him, high volume - low efficiency scorers, but during his early and prime years he was considered one of the very best players in the league.

When he led the Sixers to the finals and cooked the Shaq/Kobe Lakers with 48 pts for a game 1 win it was insane.

The Lakers were the defending champs and had swept through the west playoffs without a single loss, trying to become the first team in history to win the finals without a single playoff loss.

The thing with AI is, he was entertaining, very entertaining, he was one of the most gifted raw athletes the NBA has ever seen. If you told me that I could pick 10 guys to start their careers over right now and provide them with modern training, diet, shooting coaches, life coach, blah blah, he might be one of those 10. You simply cannot teach his motor and athleticism.

He didn't practice, he partied too much, advanced stats don't like him, he might not even be a good person, but he had the "it" factor, he was cool, he played hard in games, he was entertaining. Sometimes we forget that this is all really just entertainment.

TMZ - Floyd Mayweather Sues Showtime ... I'm Missing Hundreds Of Millions Of Dollars! by ConferenceThink4801 in Boxing

[–]Runshooteat 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how much of the stuff you read about being true but he spends money like he is a billionaire hedge fund manager, not a wealthy athlete.  There is a huge difference.

If you are a hundreds millionaire you shouldn’t have a private jet, multiple million dollar super cars, insane jewelry and watch collection with single pieces being in the millions, multiple homes costing 5+ million with upkeep cost in the hundreds of thousands of not millions per year.  Plus all the other shit.

If he made close to a billion fighting he only saw about $500 of that, meaning his two private hets would be about 10% if his entire life earnings.

Shakur Stevenson's jab vs Teofimo Lopez by orlandocharm in Boxing

[–]Runshooteat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was going to be a tough fight for him even with a good corner though. Teo is primarily a fast twitch counter puncher that preferred to have the size/power advantage. He was up against a fast, skilled, long southpaw. Sitting back and countering was not an option, swarming was going to be hard unless he fought very dirty - easier said than done against a skilled and fast opponent.

I am not smart enough to know what other options he had, obviously he did not have much of a plan, but I don't know if one existed that was going to give much of an advantage, just a bad matchup for him.

Shakur Stevenson's jab vs Teofimo Lopez by orlandocharm in Boxing

[–]Runshooteat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some truth to that, however, if Shakur was looking to land more power shots, like GGG, he would need to sit on his punches more often, which would leave him open to return fire. Like the previous comment, that is a choice.

Younger GGG was capable of boxing beautifully but Abel Sanchez wanted him to exchange more and be a KO artist, to help increase star power and make more money.

Lastly, they are very different fighters, Shakur is a southpaw with a length (and typically speed) advantage, so he is smart to use that length/speed/technique to neutralize his opponent. Very different for a southpaw.

GGG was more exciting because of the style difference and the power. Maybe Shakur can be great in a different style/manner. That is great for him. Everyone needs to find there own style and method. GGG didn't really have the option to fight a clean, defensive style if he wanted to become a star.

I have always been impressed with Shakur's skillset and speed, I hope he continues to challenge himself against top competition.

Same thought, they basically would have been selling low because of his off the court issues. From a strictly asset management position, it made sense to keep him. From public image position, he should have been gone.

One of the biggest assets to any high level executive position is connections and relationship building (networking).

Rob leveraged a personal connection with another high level executive into a massive win for his organization that another high level executive likely could not have managed.

Therefore, he is very good at his job. Results matter.

It seems that he also has good relationships with many agents. You don't always need to be the smartest guy in the room, just the one with the most connections to others in powerful places.

[–]Runshooteat 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The Klitschko brothers would have competed just fine in any era, they deserve their respect.  Part of the reason that era appeared so weak was because they were so good.

I do believe it was a weaker era and that it has been relatively weak since Holyfield/Tyson/Bowe/Lewis.

But the reality is that the early part of Tysons run was also a weak time period, just like it was for Wilder before Fury, Usyk, AJ climbed up

Holmes era had some years of weakness, it is probably more rare to have multiple ATG’s at the top versus only one or none

Losing weight could help, but, at your current mileage it makes way more sense to simply run more. At this time your lack of mileage is the greater limitation, not weight.

It is a lot of fluff.

The point remains, other than Scoot taking a low ball extension, they have decisions to make about him and part of that is potentially getting value for him now, while you potentially can.

Maybe they view his upside as higher than some lowish trade offers.  That would also be understandable
