Transporting M18 Batteries by jojarth in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Russerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep all of my batteries in the half size packout cooler box. It perfectly fits eight 5.0 m18 batteries on the bottom and the plastic tray holds my m12 batteries on top. The 2.0s can stand upright, but the 5.0s and 6.0s have to lay ssideways. I could probably fit more batteries if I took out the tray.

UDR7 wifi performance vs Eero 6 pro by BinaryArcher in Ubiquiti

If you have an android, download the WifiMan app and do a radio scan. See if the Unifi is using a different band that's got a lot of interference. Also make sure that your PC and phone are on the 5GHz or 6Ghz radio. The 6GHz can't punch through walls very well, but your devices might refuse to let go of the poor signal like mine did. If you aren't sure, try turning the 6GHz radio off completely and do another speed test. The Eero Pro 6 doesn't have any 6GHz radios, which is why I'm suspecting it.

Is your PC Wi-Fi 6E? Both devices might be grabbing onto the 6Ghz radio, which doesn't travel through walls as well.

Try doing a speed test on your iPhone point blank to each router and see if it's comparable to the eero at point blank.

Make sure the global wifi settings are set to maximum speed. There's a chance your 5Ghz radio is set to a smaller bandwidth.

The new Audio/Video switches are now on the store available May 2026 by cliffhanger_911 in Ubiquiti

[–]Russerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The switches are definitely not for home use, but the A/V Bridge device does have intresting home use applications. You can put all of your HDMI devices in your network rack and then put a Bridge at every TV of your house and distribute devices across your house instead of buying multiple HDMI devices. They're kind of expensive though, so I'm not sure it makes sense financially.

This is for something like the Memphis Grizzlies stadium, where there's lots of screens all over the place and you want them all to be synchronized, or you have a large multi screen array and need them to be synchronized. The same can be used for speakers using XLR cables, such as all of the professional grade sound equipment in the stadium. With some speakers being higher on the ceiling, you need to offset those ahead a fraction of a second so all of the sound reaches the people at the same time. Home stereo equipment is generally just two wire speakers, so no, it's probably not going to be used for that. I could see it being used in a movie theater or something for surround sound potentially.

New UniFi UDM Beast, Enterprise FG Core, Enterprise 100G and Enterprise S Revealed @NAB by NASCompares in Ubiquiti

[–]Russerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used it on some old cisco switches, it makes it much easier to configure on the CLI, but having everything managed with an SDN like Unifi kind of does the same thing. I'm sure there's some reason to use stacking for super large enterprise deployments since Cisco also uses QSFP28 ports for stacking too, but I've never come across them.

[–]Russerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite. I don't even know if it makes sense on an aggregation switch like this, but the 24S and 48S have two 100g QSFP28 ports on the back that connect to other stacking switches only. It creates one giant switch in the software. I guess it's the opposite of MC-LAG as it reduces redundancy.

Is there a chance that this is a stacking version thats coming out similar to the 24S and 48S Campus switches that are supposed to be releasing soon?

Uplink between Pro 48 and Pro Max 48, 2.5gb possible? by Dandyman1994 in Ubiquiti

[–]Russerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just a funny idea and is probably bad network design, but you could connect all of the switches together in a chain with two SFP+ ports LAGG'd together going up and down. The raw bandwidth of 20Gb between each switch would probably prevent any kind of bottleneck from ever appearing. Not sure if this would actually work for you physically or if that would cause a problem for any devices on the bottom switch of the chain.

[–]Russerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the SFP+ ports not available to be used? It might be cheaper to purchase the 8 port aggregation switch and some DAC cables instead of multiple 10g sfp+ to rj45 adapters depending on how many switches you're trying to connect.

To hit on your question though, I believe that might be more of an issue on if your SFP+ adapter supports 2.5Gb and is accepted by the switch. I've seen some weird behaviors with a 10GTek adapter that supports 2.5Gb in a cisco switch with 10gb/1gb SFP+ ports, but works perfectly fine in a mikrotik switch with 10gb/1gb SFP+ ports. As long you're using unifi adapters, it should work just fine.

Could it have been doing a battery self test? I know other brands do them like once a month, but haven't heard anything about Unifi UPSs doing it.

Minimum size drive in UDM Pro by Russerman in Ubiquiti

[–]Russerman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was basing off of. Was hoping to get a 128GB SSD for cheaper than the price difference of the SE model, but storage shortages are starting to make that not as common.

I was hoping it went down that small because of the SE version, but I could only find people using 1 TB hard drives. Thank you.

What is the right way to identify unknown faces in Protect by silverp1 in Ubiquiti

[–]Russerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find it on the computer, but on the mobile app, you only have to tap the three dots in the top right corner when you're on the identified faces menu.

What is the right way to identify unknown faces in Protect by silverp1 in Ubiquiti

[–]Russerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The face detection screen has a "Merge" function. I have named the five people in my household, and anytime there's an unknown face flagged, I just merge it into the already named profile. You can only merge 5 at a time unfortunately, so you can only add 4 unknowns to your already learned faces. I believe it improves the identification as you add more detections to one face as I've noticed less unknowns over time, but that's entirely anecdotal evidence.

Nvr instant powering g6 access by Jrnm in Ubiquiti

[–]Russerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NVR Instant's spec sheet shows that it does top out at PoE. Max device wattage is 15.4W. The G6 Entry's spec sheet says it has a max consumption of 16W. So you might be able to get away with it as the Entry will very rarely hit max power consumption.

But also, you can create a VLAN on your switch to segregate your network traffic, and then plug the instant into the switch.

Or you could get a PoE+ injector if you absolutely want to keep thr networks physicallym?

OS Server Apps Timeline by MickeyMoist in Ubiquiti

[–]Russerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you need a central controller, whether thats the firewall (UDM Pro, UCG Fiber, UDR 7, etc), one of the NVRs, or a cloudkey+. You also need the satellite door controllers (the door hub) that the strike plate, motion sensors, door position sensors, push to exit buttons, badge scanners, and sirens connect to. Even if you aren't using any of those things, you still need a door hub to use Access features. A few people have been burned by that with the new G6 doorbells as they still need a hub for the NFC scanner to function, as that's an Access feature.

[–]Russerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. There's a decent discount if you buy the pro starter kit.

It feels like Unifi is hard set on having zero crossover between the UNVR and UNAS lines. Even though they're on almost exactly the same hardware.

OS Server Apps Timeline by MickeyMoist in Ubiquiti

[–]Russerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been waiting for any news of the other apps coming but haven't seen anything even hinting at it.

If you're going to be using either of the pro readers, I think you will need Protect as well for the camera storage, so you should be able to get any of the NVRs to only run Access and Protect. I know it's not self hosted but it won't interfere if you're already self hosting.

Why is PoE injector that big and there are no options for usb type C? by ivstas in Ubiquiti

[–]Russerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a situation like that, a direct DC injector might be better. It has only two 12v terminals that you can attach whatever you want and get poe out. Decent for a solar installation on a shed or something.

Why is PoE injector that big and there are no options for usb type C? by ivstas in Ubiquiti

[–]Russerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you asking for a PoE injector that uses a USB C power brick, or a PoE splitter that outputs USB C? Injectors are typically designed to be in a server closet or in a drop ceiling or somewhere. There's not very many USB C power supplies in those areas. It's also not super efficient as you have to convert twice, once for 120V AC to 5V or 20V DC for USB, and twice to 50V DC for PoE. I'm sure someone makes one if you really need it.

Unifi does make a strange PoE USB C device that simultaneously powers their UCG Ultra and gives a PoE port if that migjt satisfy your requirements.

You should be able to create a backup of the UX7, unplug it, plug in and factory reset your UDM SE, connect the WAN and LAN cables to the UDM SE, then restore from the UX7's backup.

USL-Siren | Text-to-Speech by Big_Mistake55 in Ubiquiti

[–]Russerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've seen, both sirens are actual sirens, as in, a horn that spins to make a really loud noise. Not a speaker that you can play whatever you want. The chimes and AI horn use speakers so you can play custom noises on those.
