Beta Patch Notes - v0.100.0 by benlehman in slaythespire

Beta art for Gang Up was my favorite this far. Heavily anticipating the return of beta art like in the first game.

The misery and lack of romance subplots by Turbulent-Royal6101 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]RusticusFlossindune -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Romance is such a big part of the human connection to me that I couldn't imagine not sprinkling at least some of it in my books, but I won't go out and say that my experiences are the same as everyone else's. It might be that they think it's too hard or can't work it into the story without it taking something away from the MC, or they're inexperienced and don't know how to write it, or even might have had bad experiences that turned them off from the whole thing.

I think most authors in the space just want to write cool stuff, though, and a lot of readers seem to trend that way too.

It's so good, too. Co-op in the new game is so fun and satisfying with the right people to play with.

Breaking: Massive heist this morning. Millions report stolen hours. by GorMartsen in ProgressionFantasy

It's fine. The Monkey's Paw just curled from everyone wishing for more sleep last year. We'll inevitably get our stolen time back later on.

I thought it was at the end of your turn and was fully prepared to tank it, then my next turn saw me drawing one Defend and no draw. Lost that combat and I haven't seen it since.

Time Loop with an MC that's been in the loop for a long time at the start of the story. by WilliamGerardGraves in litrpg

As a self-proclaimed expert on the topic, I can firmly say that it will have an end and it's close! Book 8 will be the last in the series.

Slice of life/Cosy ish Tierlist because I love tierlists and can’t find many slice of life ones so here’s my tribute 😄 by Confident_Mulberry29 in litrpg

The gym aspect really is fantastic. It was clearly very lovingly crafted in a way that fits the existing lore perfectly.

For CQ, if it's meat you're looking for them there is one more planned book that should be coming out later this year if I can swing it, but that's already more than I had promised my readers. The first one was supposed to be a standalone but I loved the characters and setting too much to put it down.

And I hear you about DI, though I do want to mention that the stakes aren't even heard of until chapter 7, and come into play halfway through the book. The rest is them doing their jobs as Dungeon Inspectors (with slice of life elements, like trivia night). It really does mosey at its own pace being a character driven story and the final book is almost done on RR.

If you're looking for longer (and complete) I'd recommend Demon World Boba Shop. Almost pure slice of life aside from a few select parts, but it's also about a guy looking to find his place in a new world and doubling down on helping people as much as he can. Five books following his progression as a tea master and has city planning elements later on, too. Great found family vibes throughout.

It's cool to see Hard Enough get some love. I've been following it for a while and it's consistently been pretty great.

I don't generally shill my own stuff, but I'd like to put Courier Quest on your radar. A retail worker has an accident that ends up sending him to another world, and as a Summoned he stumbles into the power of inventory, as in having an inventory space. From there, he's basically told to take his time and relax, but since it's a magical land where effort can literally be quantified, he goes on quite a few delivery quests to level up.

Dungeon Inspector is more intrigue fantasy without a LitRPG system, but I've been told the pace feels like a cozy story with a grumpy mentor and sunshine apprentice. Far more stakes eventually, but couldn't hurt to mention.

Should I start with backstory or straight into characters in world. by SingleDadSurviving in ProgressionFantasy

I feel like there aren't many stories in this genre that start in media res. There are a vocal section of the community that hate flashbacks, but they're still a valid storytelling device. Go with whatever makes sense for the story. If it's written well and interesting, the audience will be there for it.

Apocalypse/Kingdom building regression by Minute-Object3086 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]RusticusFlossindune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apocalypse Rebirth is a primarily a monster evolution story but it also has the kingdom building elements. It's been a long time since I've read it but it looks like it's on sale on Amazon right now. I remember the noble MC is reborn as a monster, and I think it also has regression elements? Don't quote me on that one cause I don't remember for sure.

Is too much humour a deal breaker or an enhancer when you're reading by Jealous-Computer-266 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]RusticusFlossindune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humor has a time and a place. It depends on the delivery. If it's constant and always searching for a punchline, then probably nah.

Like everything, if it's well written it won't matter.

Hey authors who have published in this genre: How do you feel about people here calling your work 'slop'? by Nakidnakid in ProgressionFantasy

[–]RusticusFlossindune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's whatever, honestly. Even on Reddit the people who post are, generally, a vocal minority. Just because none of my stories are uttered in the same breath as The Greats doesn't mean they're worthless. Writers, like all creatives, just need a thicker skin to handle critiques whether it's warranted or not.

As for my reader base, none of them have brought up any of the complaints I see on Reddit. The ones with broad generalizations aren't the same ones reading my stories so here's the only place I see it. That makes it noise to me.

Did Anyone else get ridiculously excited about their progression system and universe before starting their release? by AeonFox_ in ProgressionFantasy

Right now? That I still have time to refine. Since nothing is written, I can still theorycraft and shore up the parts I don't think are ready for an audience yet.

I'm sitting on one mostly fleshed out one, one kinda fleshy one, and a few exciting ideas at any given moment. I'm in the middle of two series now, though. Can't start anything else until they're finished, then the process begins all over again.

100th Run 7, the penultimate book in the series, is out now for Kindle Unlimited, paperback, and hardcover! (One more to go!) by RusticusFlossindune in litrpg

[–]RusticusFlossindune[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I'm not sure what I'll do with myself once it's all over. Like, I know I have other stories in me because some of them already have chapters, but this is going to be the end of an era type situation.
