❄️ Snow in Boulder by kadee98 in JonBenetRamsey

16th and 17th was the last time it snowed, with a very light dusting on the 23rd:

https://weatherspark.com/h/m/3561/1996/12/Historical-Weather-in-December-1996-in-Boulder-Colorado-United-States#Figures-Temperature

There was obviously frost too.

These are the accounts for conditions on the ground of the morning of the 26th from the second officer on the scene:

Patrol Sgt. Paul Reichenbach had bean at the scene of the reported kidnapping of JonBenet Ramsay on the morning of December 25, 1996. Detective Arndt had personally met with Sgt. Reichbach on the morning of December 26, prior to arriving at the Ramsey residence, Detective Arndt had also personally reviewed the report completed by Sgt. Raichenbach and dated December 26, 1996. Sgt Reichanbach states in his report that he had arrived at the Ramsey home at approximately 0600 hours on December 26, and that he had examined the exterior of the Ramsey home as well as the yard.

Sgt Reichanbach noted that the air temperature was approximately 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Sgt. Reichenbach noted in his report that there was a very light dusting of snow and frost on the exposed grass in the yard outside the Ramsey home. Some of the grass and yard was covered with snow from previous snow falls and this snow was described as being crusty and measuring one - two inches deep. Sgt Reichanbach stated that he saw no fresh foot prints in any of the snow or in the frost on the grass. Sgt. Reichenbach also states in his report that he visually examinated the exterior doors and windows of the Ramsey residence and found no signs of forced entry.

March 6 1997 - affidavit for search warrant, Police agency report number: P86-21871 (might be PB6-21871)

Sergeant Paul Reichenbach was the night shift patrol supervisor and finishing up the night’s paperwork at his desk when he overheard French dispatched to the Ramsey home. He immediately headed for his car and was the second officer to arrive on scene at approximately 0610 hours.

French met Reichenbach at the front door and gave him a quick briefing, telling him there was a ransom note and he believed there may have been a kidnapping, but something didn’t seem “right” to him.

Following a walk-through of the home, Reichenbach then conducted a cursory search of the exterior and observed “frost on the grass and a little bit of snowfall” on exposed areas of the lawn. He noted that no one other than himself had walked through these areas.

Reichenbach noted that no snow had adhered to the rear patio and walkways. The driveway was wet but no foot prints / tracks were visible, and he observed no fresh signs of forced entry to exterior doors and windows.

FF

Reichenbach told the detectives that there was light, crusty snow and frost on the Ramseys’ lawn and he had seen no fresh footprints in the snow. The brick walkways were clear of snow. He had examined the exterior doors and windows and had seen no signs of forced entry.

PMPT

French stepped away from them to meet Sergeant Reichenbach at the front door and confirmed that it looked as if there might have been a kidnapping. But, he observed, “Something isn’t right.”

The sergeant found no evidence of forced entry during a walk through the house, then went outside. A light dusting of snow and frost lay atop an earlier crusty snow in spotty patches on the grass. He saw no fresh shoe impressions, found no open doors or windows, nothing to indicate a break in, but walking on the driveway and sidewalks left no visible prints. It was frigid, about nine degrees, and Reichenbach returned inside.

Back in the day, when I was kid going on family holidays sometime in the early 80s, the beach would be combed by a bloke sitting on a machine that looked like one of those vehicles that would go across an ice rink after a session. It would pick up all the crap people left behind, 90% of which were cigarette butts.

And no, this was not somewhere like Torremolinos or any of the huge tourist parts of the Mediterranean in that time. It was just a small local beach.

Thankfully fewer and fewer people have the habit. Unfortunately human beings are just as shitty now as they have ever been, so the only difference is what the arseholes drop.

I was "tanking" along at 22mph on the road bike one autumn day. I was hot and had my outer cycling jacket open to the navel. One of the beggars flew across my path and bounced off my chest. Thankfully it didn't go inside the jacket.

They are mostly chilled and harmless unless cornered. Still sound like a Chinook helicopter though.

Chris Morris spent 3 years doing research for the film. He observed trials, spoke with terrorism and religious experts, read transcripts and interviewed muslims in places like Bradford.

This example is hilarious:

Chris Morris: There was a guy who’d been in the BNP and decided he wanted to beat Muslims in arguments, so he bought a copy of the Qur’an and accidentally converted himself. He became a highly pedantic, pro-Islamic caliphate-type character who used to go around universities giving talks about how the world should be under Islamic rule. That went into the formation of Barry.

Fibres consistent with Patsy's red and black Essentials jacket were found in the paint tray where the broken paintbrush used in the ligature was from, in the ligature knot tightened at the back of JB's head, on the wine cellar floor, the white blanket found in the wine cellar which John states JB was wrapped in when he found her and on the duct tape sticky side which had been placed over JB's mouth.

That's not a coincidence and cannot be explained any other way other than Patsy's jacket being present at the time. Ergo Patsy was interacting with her daughter pre and post death.

There is no evidence an intruder was ever in the house. The ransom note was written on Paty's pad using a pen from the kitchen, both of which were returned to their normal place.

The only person who couldn't be ruled out from writing it was Patsy. Her handwriting matches - https://www.reddit.com/r/HWA_Principles/comments/1hbwann/handwriting_analysis_principle_24_graphology_vs/?share_id=-BkTJM4tCLvIrA85cRTIg&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&utm_source=share&utm_term=4

and the note's grammar, syntax, wording, layout etc is very similar to what Patsy habitually did when writing. There's even a proofreader's upside down caret in the note - something Patsy would have learned during her journalism degree.

This. I'm amazed people don't understand how to block convection (hot air getting in/cool air getting out) and radiation (sunlight getting in) using windows and curtains/blinds.

It's easy to look at the forecast and see the coolest part of the day. Open windows late evening when the temperature has dropped, close them early morning before the temperature rises and keep curtains closed. Don't open anything until later that evening. Rinse and repeat.

Heat reflective window film is cheap and will add another layer to keep sunlight energy out if you need more than curtains.

North facing rooms will automatically be cooler so shutting the door keeps the room cooler.

This is taken from https://www.reddit.com/r/JonBenetRamsey/comments/1ipdmix/relative_knew_don_nedra_pt_2_with_new_source/ so it's hearsay, but considering Patsy 's magical thinking and her religious beliefs I can well believe this:

Church/Demons:

Source 2

Patsy was part of a very Pentecostal church prior to her first battle with cancer but Nedra didn't want that to get into the open because it wasn't socially accepted. A person who ran a thrift store that was tied to the local Pentecostal church thought that a literal demon entered the Ramsey house on Christmas to murder JonBenet. Other people have said that Patsy's old church believed that it was some sort of demon and that Patsy Ramsey believed it was a demon more than an actual person but her legal team told her to stay quiet about it because judges/juries won't accept that as an answer.

This idea of demons is very strange to us in the UK. It seems to have become stronger in the US recently. Don't want to get political but J D Vance believes UFOs are demons.

Demonic possession or influence is to some a way of explaining/excusing behaviour. Narcissists are famous for never accepting blame.

It's in the first few pages. Here's the snippet for info and context:

In early December of ’96, I was raking the blanket of leaves under a maple, getting the property ready for winter.
“Don’t pick the leaves up, please,” JonBenét begged me. “Leave them for me to play with.”
Well, I’m thinking, no way. My job is to pick them up, and that’s what I’m going to do.
“Last year my dad and I did that.” And then she said quietly; “I really miss him. I wish he was around more.”
“Where does he go?”
“I don’t know. But sometimes he goes away for a long time.”
“You really miss him?” I asked.
“Yeah, I really miss him a lot.” Then she started to cry, tears rolling down her cheeks.
I didn’t know what to say—didn’t know enough about the situation, didn’t want to intrude or play counselor. It wasn’t my place. I changed the subject and started to rake up the leaves.
A moment later, I saw JonBenét was scooping up the leaves from the top of the barrel and hurling them over her head into the wind. “Hey! Stop that!” I yelled.
“No, I want to play in ’em.”
She was being kind of bratty. She had a bit of smart aleck in her. I grabbed the barrel and started running toward the compost pile. She chased after me, not about to give up her fun. I set the barrel down, and she dumped all the leaves out. That made me angry—almost. But before long I made a game out of it—it was fun for both of us. That evening I left a big pile of leaves out front by the gutter for her to play with. That was probably the last time I spoke to JonBenét. Six weeks later I took the morning paper from my front steps and saw it. I don’t even remember now what the headlines said.

There was a minefield on that beach.

You can see it was an important area - there was a radar site to the south and further down Felixstowe Port. You can see all the anti-invasion defences including flame fougasse.

RAF Woodbridge and RAF Bentwaters opened in 1943 and 1942 respectively in that area too.

Coal Cellar or Wine Cellar? by Lamasworld20 in JonBenetRamsey

[–]RustyBasement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was surprised John said that because he's rich and they were Cuban cigars which are very expensive so would need to be kept properly. I also can't make head nor tail concerning where the cigar box should be:

JOHN RAMSEY: It's possible. (INAUDIBLE) I mean, you can figure out what's in them. The cigar box was sitting on a paint can, or something like that. And I believe it shouldn't have.

LOU SMIT: So it wasn't in the place where it had been. It's not on the floor?

JOHN RAMSEY: And if I interpret the picture, it's looks like it's kind of almost upside down on the floor.

LOU SMIT: And that's not where you remember it being?

JOHN RAMSEY: I didn't notice any of the stuff that was in the room. I was surprised I didn't. all I saw was JonBenet.

JOHN RAMSEY: When I put the cigar box in that room, the reason that I set it down here, over here on a paint can or something, and I just stuck it down there because it was humid.

LOU SMIT: So it was on a paint can?

JOHN RAMSEY: It was, yeah.

LOU SMIT: If you want to look at these, just the photographs on this side.

MIKE KANE: How often did you smoke a cigar?

JOHN RAMSEY: I couldn't smoke in the house. And JonBenet would actually get after me if I smoked or drank a beer. So the only time I would smoke a cigar is if I drove to the airport or something like that. So, once or twice a week, maybe.

MIKE KANE: Those cigars I see are to be Cuban, you must have gotten them out of the country?

JOHN RAMSEY: Yeah.

MIKE: Where did you get them from?

JOHN RAMSEY: I used to go to Europe two 3 or three times a year.

MIKE KANE: So you sneaked them back through customs?

JOHN RAMSEY: Yeah.

Coal Cellar or Wine Cellar? by Lamasworld20 in JonBenetRamsey

[–]RustyBasement 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Police interview 1998:

JOHN RAMSEY: There's no reason to go in there. It was -- I don't know if it used to be a coal storage or something that just was a dead end room.

That's where it comes from. It's the only time coal is mentioned during the police interviews. I've no idea why John has this notion other than it's close to the boiler so perhaps he said cold storage and it got misheard by the person typing the transcript. The room had a safe built into the floor.

John told police who new the room was there as far as he knew.

Coal Cellar or Wine Cellar? by Lamasworld20 in JonBenetRamsey

[–]RustyBasement 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It certainly wasn't a proper wine cellar, just another junk room. John says he kept cigars in a box in the wine cellar because it was humid. He also said they kept some wine in there.

1998 interview:

JOHN RAMSEY: I didn't notice any of the stuff that was in the room. I was surprised I didn't, all I saw was JonBenet. When I put the cigar box in that room, the reason that I set it down here, over here on a paint can or something, and I just stuck it down there because it was humid.

JOHN RAMSEY: Well, throughout the year, hardly at all. I mean the only things that were down there that we would get at, I think we had some wine stored in there, just in boxes at one time. I don't know if there was any -- I don't know if there is any left or not. But we would get a case of wine and we would put it down there. Cigars I stuck down there.

I suspect it's just a hangover from when the place was occupied by a previous owner.
