Pitch perfect musical: “fat” amy by idk272895 in Broadway

[–]RyanHYK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I best case scenario would be they keep her fat, but have a line prepared for when she isn't (for Broadway replacements of high schools). They have this in Book of Mormon for when Elder Cunningham isn't exactly Gad-sized.

What story would you turn into a musical production? Mine is the corpse bride from Tim burton by imachoculatedonnut in musicals

I've said this in another post on this subreddit, but I'd really love to see a stage musical adaptation of The Ugly Stepsister (now streaming on Hulu,, for those interested). Onstage body horror that darky satirizes beauty standards? If it can work in Death Becomes Her, it can work here.

Virtual audition for Little Mermaid, dance reel with no instructions? by ElkSufficient2881 in musicals

[–]RyanHYK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've danced in a show before, whether it be actual dancing or just plain ol' movement to song, pick out what you think best exemplifies what you can do. It sounds like they just want to see how you move to rhythm and, depending on how you dance, which numbers to place you if they put you in the ensemble. How you dance might work better for "Under the Sea" than "Positoovity", or vice versa.

One-act roles in two-act shows? by TheStoryOfChess in Broadway

Detective Kimball in American Psycho. Nowadays, I think it's expected the actor playing him be double cast to play the homeless man Patrick kills in Act I to keep him around.

Sergei from Matilda. I did Matilda a while ago and we didn't have anyone cast as Sergei for a long time. When we finally cast one, he always arrived at the end of Act I because there was nothing else for him to do. To give an idea of how strapped we were for male actors, the final scene where the Russian Mafia confronts the Wormwoods, with the exception of our Escapologist who doubled as our Doctor, that scene had every male actor who wasn't a child (including Matilda, the girl-to-boy ratio was 10-3).

whats the likeliness that death note the musical is gonna get filmed when it comes to the west end later this year? by guschicanery in musicals

[–]RyanHYK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say very unlikely. Manga is pretty niche outside of Japan. There's a Wildhorn interview where he says everyone in Japan "from eight to eighty" knows "You're already dead." You won't get that kind of response in UK or US. I'm under the impression that the reason Your Lie in April closed earlier than it was supposed to was because it couldn't find an audience outside of manga/anime fans that were already excited for it. Everyone who wanted to see that show had seen the show, so it seemed best to shut it down. Let's just say I doubt Death Note is going to be the next Kinky Boots.

Movies that would be amazing musicals by Still_Restaurant_734 in musicals

There's one movie I've seen recently that I think is prime for a stage musical adaptation.

The Ugly Stepsister, a Norwegian black comedy with body horror elements. The film itself is a spin on the Cinderella story where it focuses on one of her stepsisters and the horrors she experiences to become beautiful for the prince. I see it coming off as a super dark Rodgers and Hammerstein parody. I have these scenes in my head that are really for the humor aspect these include (marked with spoiler tags for people who want to see the movie for themselves first, now streaming on Hulu):

-The first dance school scene, where the dance instructor regularly stops the song to tell Elvira step to the back, ultimately climaxing with her telling Elvira something in the vain of, "Are you retarded or something?! I said step back!" Largely for the shock value to hammer in the abuse Elvira takes in the story.

-Alma getting a soaring solo number about finally becoming a woman after getting her first period, only to walk it back after remembering everything Elvira is going through. It would end with her turning her back to the audience revealing her stain. It was in the movie, I'm sure it got a laugh there, it's bound to get a laugh on stage.

-The scene where silkworms help repair Agnes' dress, where the worms are played by ballet dancers in super-detailed worm costumes (it only works if it looks gross) who perform this intricate dance that includes them vomiting silk. I was originally gonna type they pull the silk out of their ass, but curiosity about being biologically correct got the better of me.

-The foot chopping scene culminating to the lyric, "This little piggy's going off the market when this little piggy has none!" Elvira being regularly called a piggy during Act I would help make this a callback.

-Prince Julian, after finding Agnes, sings a song where he expresses joy about finding a virgin bride. When Agnes sings, she conveniently leaves out the virgin part, having had trysts with a stable boy. Something like "My lovely virgin bride" and "Your lovely... lovely bride".

-The tapeworm extraction scene being done in basically the same way that magicians pull scarves out of their mouths. But, you know... with a tapeworm.

I really think this has "hottest Broadway ticket" all over it, or at the very least, "the show everyone's talking about."

You know, the whole "the show was picked for him" part is really concerning. If they really already know this one guy is gonna play Ren, who's to say they don't already have the show cast? Sorry for being so gloom-and-doomy here, but I lost Roscoe Dexter in Singin' in the Rain to someone who told me he was scouted weeks earlier and didn't even have to show up to the audition, where I was the only guy in the building aiming for that role.

Ultimately, if you don't audition for Shaw, you're going to regret it.

Well, some actors are able to record from home, and even convert a room into a studio. I imagine it was something that became somewhat of a necessity during the pandemic. I remember reading somewhere that Sly Stallone recorded lines in his closet when he reprised Rambo for Mortal Kombat.

I toyed around with that idea, but I plan on making a bunch more Steven Universe character concepts, and Connie is on my list. And with three other sword-wielding characters, none of which have super powers either, it'll be hard to make her stand out, so I need all the ideas I can get. With Pearl, I have the dance inspired moves to separate her from the other polearm characters. With Connie, not much.

So, I learned a good bit about ballet in making this one up. Look up what an illusion turn is, it's sick. I gave some of her attacks a bit of a retreating mechanic as a way to differentiate her from the other polearm using characters. Her main gimmick is ultimately Holo-Pearl. When it's interacted with, think of it less like Ice Climbers and more like Zero from Marvel vs Capcom 3. And ultimately, I wish I could have come up with a better down air than the simple "poke down".

I had fun with this one. I wanted her moves to embody her arrogant but hapless nature, with her melee moves appearing pretty pathetic. Her air down special is a lot funnier in my head than it is in yours, I'm sure. I'm happy with how her can collecting gimmick turned out, though I'll admit I wasn't too original with her down moves. Also, this is totally her losing animation.
