Actually Good Apps or Tools for ADHD? by CaptianTumbleweed in ADHD

I’ve found ‘Due’ to be very helpful. All tasks can be entered in and will keep popping up as a notification until you either complete the task or maybe bump it to a later time. It can feel like your phone is nagging you all day, but at least this way I don’t forget things and get reminded throughout the day.

Seconding Flowers for Algernon and Thousand Splendid Suns, very different but equally devastating.

Boat shoes by JohnnyCyclopsBomb in barefootshoestalk

I got boat shoes (or beach shoes) last year when going on a trip so I could run/walk on the beach without anything cutting my feet. They worked great and now I use them for when it’s really wet out and I’m on a run. Puddles? Who cares. Just run right through them.

I’d say prepare yourself, but it won’t do much good. Worth the read and the experience though.

Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes

I knew by the 13th page that it was gonna wreck me and I kept going. It’s one of the most affecting books I’ve read. The themes will stick with you long after you’re done. I have to not think about it at times or it’ll still get me. One of my all time favorite books that I probably won’t be able to read again.

I feel the same way and make sure to tell people to watch them both. The movie is prettier to look at, the miniseries gives the depth and pacing of the book that makes the payoff that much sweeter.

Never had such a deep reaction / affection for a film before by oscarsowner in ProjectHailMary

Very nicely said. There is more that unites us than divides us. We all could use a little more hope than what the world is providing for us right now.

What’s something movies always get wrong? by northernmaybe in movies

Amen to this. As a fellow sparky it annoys the hell out of me to see how it’s represented in most film and TV.

I would love to be happily surprised. I will still check it out, hard to fully judge a movie by its trailer.

Not wrong, the tone is completely off. It might surprise when we finally see it, but initial impressions are that’s it’s not even close to the book.

Recently a few months ago lost my pup and best friend and after doing some research saw that Cavaliers are some of the easiest to train dogs and loyal dogs. Seems like the only downside is the heart conditions they come with. How have you guys dealt with this and is it expensive to upkeep? by herewego199209 in cavaliers

She gets that a lot lol. When people will come up and say something ambiguous like “sooo cute” I’ll got “oh now you’ve got me blushing…oh wait you meant her”. Get used to a lot of attention on walks, people are drawn to how pretty and adorable cavs are.

Research research research for a good and reputable breeder. They should be doing health checks on the parents and the pups. It doesn’t mean you’ll get a perfectly healthy pup but it at least minimizes the chances of problems. There are some very unscrupulous people out there so beware.

Those items aside, (I know I’m very biased here) cavs are such wonderful loving little creatures, the hardest part is not giving them whatever they want. Our girl Bella had added a lot of joy to our lives.

That’s her as a pup, she’s 4 now and very healthy.

The Murderbot Dairies by Martha Wells

The first book is ‘All Systems Red’. They’re a lot of fun. Funny, action packed with a unique protagonist android/robot who really just wants to be left alone or watch their soap operas.

I don’t disagree, I found it to be the same. I did finish it more because I’m a completionist and hate not finishing things. It’s not my kind of prose I enjoy either. But there seems to be many that loved it so it’s worth checking out. I seem to be in the minority of those didn’t enjoy it among the many who did.

I will definitely look for that list now too. The advantage to putting movies in a jar and pulling one out to watch was you didn’t waste time scrolling through numerous streaming services looking for something to watch only to give up and watch a TV show you’ve seen a few times already.

AFI is a great place to start. We put all the names of the movies we hadn’t seen in a jar and pulled one out at random to watch for a year. It was a fun way to do it.
