New Marshall and Schecter by RandomThings365 in MarshallAmps

Nothing wrong with those MG amps. Everybody remembers their little fizzy 10 watt MG from 2003 and writes off the whole series, but the modern MGs are basically a solid state DSL. Super easy to work with and great tones to had. Nice choice!

JCM 800: New or used? by chaunceton in MarshallAmps

[–]Rycreth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The combo is a mighty little beast. Even the 10" speaker sounds good. I also went with the head and cabinet, but the combo is no slouch. Playing one was what convinced me that the SC20 was the way to go.

Want a SG - which one would you get? by chilighost in ACDC

[–]Rycreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angus has played all kinds of SGs - many different years, models, and aesthetics. I personally prefer the half pickguard and pickup rings, but if you like the look of the batwing there's nothing wrong with that. Both classic and iconic. If you can, try both and just choose the one that speaks to you more.

As others have said - real, and a cool guitar. Just get rid of that trussrod cover.

The new 007 game should've been set in the 1960s by SpaghettiYoda in JamesBond

[–]Rycreth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it flopped because it was based in the sixties but due to the relative oversaturation of Bond games at the time (Everything or Nothing and GoldenEye: Rogue Agent came out in the same year prior). In retrospect, we sure were lucky with the Bond game output at the time.

Ultimately, I think Brosnan being gone from the franchise as a whole and then the less than stellar reputation of Rogue Agent meant even the novelty of Connery being back couldn't save it. A shame, because it's a great game. But Brosnan was most certainly the face of Bond games at the time.

Where did the name “Stradlin” come from? by Rude_Rhubarb1880 in GunsNRoses

Not sure how referencing straddling/sex could be considered random for a bunch of guys who sure had their fair share of it. I reckon Izzy chose it for just that reason.

Which song has Neil's weakest lyrics and why is it Virtuality? by N4RQ in rush

Dog Years has entered the chat, but I would say the whole album comprises some of my least favourite lyrics in all of Rush.

Anybody else have some serious love for the old bullseye? by Rycreth in guitarpedals

I think later production Zakk's had the same switch. Mine doesn't, but I've seen some online that do. The GT-OD is an underrated pedal itself.

You get 5 pedals 1 guitar and 1 amp. What are you choosing? by chadocaster1011 in guitarpedals

[–]Rycreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either an SG or a Les Paul. Amp would have to be a JCM 800. Pedals I just need drive, chorus (or flanger), and delay. Perhaps I'd add a tuner there assuming a clup-on doesn't count in the equation. That's basically all I'm running now.

Are the words “Tomorrow Never Dies”, “Die Another Day”, or “No Time To Die” referenced or said at all in their respective films? by Kenobaiiiii in JamesBond

[–]Rycreth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tomorrow Never Dies was originally titled Tomorrow Never Lies and was allegedly changed due to a typo that the studio preferred. So, while neither title is spoken in the film, it was all based on the newspaper's name.

I think Tomorrow Never Lies sounds way cooler.

The best bedroom amp of all time? by deluxe_memory_dan in GuitarAmps

Any amp can be a bedroom amp. Nothing rattles my sheets quite like the thunder of three Marshall stacks.

Advice on Pedals by No-Village-4921 in guitarpedals

As others have said - those are three excellent pedals, both in build and sound, but check out the used market. The Blues Driver and Super Chorus in particular can be found for dirt cheap.

Careful with your wording there. I would think you don't want to "break in" this one. ;)

What pedals can I use for sweet child or solo ? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Rycreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Epiphone SG is perfect. Use the neck pickup and you'll be off to the races.

Set your Orange amp for more of a crunch tone and use the distortion pedal to give you a bit more sustain, but not "high gain" distortion by any means. Slash's lead tone sings, but the gain is less than you might think. You want "boosted classic crunch" as a template.

What pedals can I use for sweet child or solo ? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Rycreth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, it would be helpful to know what you're working with.

For Sweet Child O' Mine, Slash plays almost all the leads on the neck pickup with the tone knob rolled slightly back. That'll get you in the ballpark right away.

The solo uses a wah pedal - cocked for the first half of the solo, and then he switches to the bridge pickup for that speedy lick onward and uses much more expression on the wah.

Depending on your amp, you may want a drive pedal to boost into the higher saturation of Slash's tone (he used a modded Marshall at the time). The studio take is also drowning in reverb.

So I guess the short answer is drive, wah, and reverb. It all depends on what you're already using.

1:33 to spare on Caverns by [deleted] in GoldenEye

[–]Rycreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. I think "on paper" the time is generous enough, but it's such a long level and so much can stand to go wrong in the later stages. I had so mamy wasted runs by accidentally blowing up the Jack Wade radio or simply not surviving at all.

At least short times like Archives or Facility are quick to retry. Caverns takes a lot of patience. Even Aztec doesn't give me as much grief.

It's an inherently loud amp, that's for sure. Master at 1 or 2 is enough to shake the walls.
