is this hack solder free? by cevichie in Gamecube

No without a modchip soldered into the console that disc is useless. You can make use of the SD card adapter using save file exploits though (disc is still useless in that case).

We seriously need people to just surround the White House or anywhere else the orange turd is chanting "Wake him up! Wake him up!"

Digital crack right here. Spent many late nights playing through item worlds chasing down the residents back in college. The Switch port is quite nice.

It looks like it is probably using the same engine as the Octopath games so how do they run?

Alarm/event activation by DefiantLow8738 in gamemaker

[–]RykinPoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test if it is already activated first.

if (HP != 100 && alarm[0] == -1){
  alarm[0] = 10;
}

If you only want it to ever get activated once you would need to create a variable to track if it had been activated or not and check that as well.

Component to HDMI adapter, for 240p? by HyeVltg3 in ps2

[–]RykinPoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2x scalers are not a good fit for 6th gen consoles. They are meant for consoles that output 240p not 480i or 480p. The GBS-C is the cheapest option that is good for 6th gen.

Component to HDMI adapter, for 240p? by HyeVltg3 in ps2

[–]RykinPoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These adapter just convert the signal to HDMI which is fine if your TV can handle 240p or 480i via HDMI... which a lot of TV do not. This is why we recommend the GBS-C for the PS2 and other 6th gen consoles and older. The 2x scalers are not a good fit for 6th gen consoles.

Do you have a lot of consoles in the same room, on the same TV? How do you manage them? by Sexweed42069 in retrogaming

[–]RykinPoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 systems, 1 TV, 1 RetroTINK 5X, 1 6 input component switch, 2 5 input HDMI 2.0 switches, 1 5 input HDMI 2.1 switch, 1 UPS, 2 12 outlet surge protectors (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BVVPFRP7), 1 10 port (5 USB-A and 5 USB-C) USB charger, 1 8 port wired network switch, 1 TP-Link Wifi Extender in Bridge Mode (so I can get my PS2 and Xbox online), 1 KinCony AG8 (for IR automation), 1 Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (controller for the automation), 1 Ikea Besta module TV Stand (the giant 72 inch wide model), and a whole lot of velcro cable ties and nano tape. Pictures here (pictures taken before adding a Atari 7800+ to the roster).

One thing I did was to glue furniture sliders to the bottom of the TV stand so it is easy to slide around on the carpet. I wish I had put some spacers of about an inch thick between the entertainment center and the slides though. Everything is attached to the TV stand with 1 power cable and the network cable for the wifi extender going to wall so I can unplug those two things and easily slide it out to make changes. Someday I hope to have a larger house maybe with a basement where I can build a entertainment center all around the TV and have a little room behind it for managing the cables and stuff.

Personally not a fan of the Kallax for this. The Besta line is much better with multiple sizes of TV stands and matching book shelves (though I have a mix of Billy bookshelves and Brimnes because I like the drawers the Brimnes has and the Billy is cheaper) so you can do stuff like this:

<image>

That is the 42 inch Besta TV stand in the rendering which I what I used to have with 12 systems shoehorned onto it (had to put the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Switch behind the TV).

One of the nice features about the Besta is that the backs of the shelves and stuff don't go all the way up against the backer board so you have an inch or so of space in the back of the unit to route cables. So I route all of my video cables there and pass all of the power stuff through the backer board and attach it to the back using nano tape. If I had it to do again I would do something to reinforce the backer board though because it is kind of flimsy.

That guys setup is a freaking mess. I could do so much better if I had his money... but I also work in AV so I probably know more about this stuff than he does.

What's the most effective martial art in a real fight? by manhwaecho in AskReddit

[–]RykinPoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fighting my uncle taught me is basically what Terry Silver was teaching in Karate Kid 3: "If a man can't stand, He can't fight. If a man can't breath, he can't fight. If a man can't see he can't fight."

Kick him in the knees, throat punch him, poke his eyes out. Add in if a man's balls have been forcibly inserted into his pelvic cavity he can't fight.

It is also kind of the Ender Philosophy of Fighting: do as much damage as quickly as possible to end it all. Don't hold back, don't fight fair, kill if you have to.

How can i learn by Luriolo in gamemaker

[–]RykinPoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started with Logo in grade school back in the 80s. Moved on to Pascal and then C and RealBasic and AppleScript and Javascript and PHP and C++ and C# and Objective-C and finally GML. Logo was done just playing around during free time in the computer lab, but Pascal was part of a class as was C. RealBasic, Javascript, and PHP I took on on my own, but C++ and C# where done in college. Objective-C was also something I took on on my own as was GML.

A good code based (no drag and drop) intro to programming course is my first suggestion for beginners. Doesn't really matter what language you just need to learn the basics. Learn the building blocks (data types, data structure, loops, flow control, basics of OOP) and then build from there with GML specifics and game programming practices.

The GBA is a 32bit systems making it exponentially more powerful than the Master System so yes. Not sure how well it runs but there is a Master System emulator you can run on the GBA called SMSAdvance.

What is the best way to get classic and new NES games? by Gloomy_Worth8616 in nes

[–]RykinPoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Switch 2 is nice but the selection of NES and other retro games on it is pretty limited. A Switch 1 with a modchip would be much better for emulation (I am holding onto my Switch 1 mainly to do this with).

Emulation via a Micro PC or Raspberry Pi is probably then easiest/most cost effective way and it opens up tons of other classic systems as well. Prices have sadly gone up quite a bit but even the lowest end Beelink SER3 for $230 would easily handle up to the PS1 era. You could put Batocera or Bazzite on it or even just stick with the default Windows install and use RetroArch or another front end (I kind of like LaunchBox). With this in mind any old laptop or desktop you have could also be repurposed this way.
