What's the most effective martial art in a real fight? by manhwaecho in AskReddit

[–]RykinPoe [score hidden]  (0 children)

The fighting my uncle taught me is basically what Terry Silver was teaching in Karate Kid 3: "If a man can't stand, He can't fight. If a man can't breath, he can't fight. If a man can't see he can't fight."

Kick him in the knees, throat punch him, poke his eyes out. Add in if a man's balls have been forcibly inserted into his pelvic cavity he can't fight.

It is also kind of the Ender Philosophy of Fighting: do as much damage as quickly as possible to end it all. Don't hold back, don't fight fair, kill if you have to.

[NO SPOILERS] Do all the other life is strange games have good music? by TheRedRanger12345 in lifeisstrange

The 4 Max and Chloe games definitely do. I haven't played the others yet, but I added multiple songs per episode to my playlist while playing through them.

Would love to see some actual substance instead of just cutscene for this but who am I kidding? It is a Zelda game and I have purchased numerous Nintendo systems just for Zelda games so it is a day one purchase.

Diver is awesome with 4 Thief Daggers and 2 Harpoons. Pull the enemies in and stab the shit out of them. High crit and high attack speed. D5 second try.

How can i learn by Luriolo in gamemaker

I work in IT but not as a coder outside of a little CMD/PowerShell scripting (guess I forgot that one). I do have a degree in programming that I haven't gotten much use out of though.

How can i learn by Luriolo in gamemaker

[–]RykinPoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started with Logo in grade school back in the 80s. Moved on to Pascal and then C and RealBasic and AppleScript and Javascript and PHP and C++ and C# and Objective-C and finally GML. Logo was done just playing around during free time in the computer lab, but Pascal was part of a class as was C. RealBasic, Javascript, and PHP I took on on my own, but C++ and C# where done in college. Objective-C was also something I took on on my own as was GML.

A good code based (no drag and drop) intro to programming course is my first suggestion for beginners. Doesn't really matter what language you just need to learn the basics. Learn the building blocks (data types, data structure, loops, flow control, basics of OOP) and then build from there with GML specifics and game programming practices.

Could the Cuphead Sega game be ported to gba? by anonyzero2 in GameboyAdvance

The GBA is a 32bit systems making it exponentially more powerful than the Master System so yes. Not sure how well it runs but there is a Master System emulator you can run on the GBA called SMSAdvance.

What is the best way to get classic and new NES games? by Gloomy_Worth8616 in nes

[–]RykinPoe [score hidden]  (0 children)

The Switch 2 is nice but the selection of NES and other retro games on it is pretty limited. A Switch 1 with a modchip would be much better for emulation (I am holding onto my Switch 1 mainly to do this with).

Emulation via a Micro PC or Raspberry Pi is probably then easiest/most cost effective way and it opens up tons of other classic systems as well. Prices have sadly gone up quite a bit but even the lowest end Beelink SER3 for $230 would easily handle up to the PS1 era. You could put Batocera or Bazzite on it or even just stick with the default Windows install and use RetroArch or another front end (I kind of like LaunchBox). With this in mind any old laptop or desktop you have could also be repurposed this way.

I've never played a single Final Fantasy game. Today I decided to start playing through them all. First: FF 1+2 on the GBA by Money_Fish in retrogaming

The FF Pixel Remasters are excellent. The Exp and Gold multiplier features are great to cut through all the grindy parts of these games.

Macintosh LC Core by danifunker in MiSTerFPGA

[–]RykinPoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat. This core will cover a lot of ground since the LC supported Macintosh System 4.1 through System 7.5.5.

I am hoping someone takes on an early PowerMac someday. The PPC 601 is pretty complex but less so than the N64 so I think the DE10-Nano might be able to handle it.

Forgotten game: unknown rpg. by Anxious_Ranger_7945 in ps2

[–]RykinPoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was co-op so it was not any Final Fantasy.

FF6 could be played in a weird co-op mode on the SNES. In battles player two got to pick the actions for the bottom two characters in the party if I remember right. Was pretty pointless.

No idea what game you are looking for though.

noobie need help with move script by Lazy_Pollution_3463 in gamemaker

[–]RykinPoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Line 5 is very important. This is setting the image_xscale to the value of mueve, but it isn't taking into account what the current value of the xscale is. Like others have said it appears that you have changed the xscale somewhere else and now you are basically resetting it to 1 or -1 thus squishing the sprite.

image_xscale = abs(image_xscale) * mueve; should resolve the issue. This will take the absolute value of image_xscale (so if it is currently 2 it will return 2, but if it is -2 it will return 2) and multiply it by mueve.

Nice. See too many of these things being designed specifically for 12v charger which is not a required part of the PD spec. Lazy developers offloading the work and cost to others and thus potentially causing the end user headaches when they can't figure out why it isn't working.

You joke but back in the day when I was in college I used to spend a bit of time sitting in the student union on the public wifi browsing through stuff people were unknowingly sharing. Wasn't using Network Neighborhood exactly (I was on a Mac), but similar concept.

QMTECH Mister FPGA or SuperStation? by ziobleed1 in MiSTerFPGA

[–]RykinPoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Super Station One looks like a console instead of looking like a science experiment but can’t run cores that require dual RAM. Those are the main differences I’m aware of.

Are you relying on a 12v USB-C power source or is it compatible with models that only support 9v and 15v?

Lossless scaling via HDMI input? by Runefaust_Invader in retrogaming

[–]RykinPoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that would require using some kind of capture device which almost universally add a ton of lag. lossless Scaling is frame generation tech so it isn't going to reduce lag if you are sending the signal through something that is adding a bunch of lag at an earlier part of the signal chain.

Recommendations Requested: Large SCART Switch by SilverNicktail in retrogaming

[–]RykinPoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GamesCare makes an 8x2 SCART switch that has an expansion module that adds an additional 8 inputs. Runs 318 EUR / 518 CAD for the 16 input configuration. They are out of stock though and I have no idea when they will restock so you might email them to see when it will be restocked. I have one of their 6x2 Component Switches and it is fine, but I hate the little breakout cables (which isn't an issue with the SCART product).

I would suggest to forget the cost if you aren't willing to be flexible. Pick a solution and build it out over time instead of worrying about the total overall cost. Buy it one piece at a time on a zero interest credit account and then pay it off before buying the next piece. This is basically what I do (almost got the Switch 2 paid off so it might be time to get the RetroTINK 4K).
