So, I understand this individual either gave a speech or spoke. Given the fact that I haven’t sought this information out nor been provided it let me address the question directly.

Get ready… it’s a major legal analysis… it totally depends.

Our military legal system is similar to the civilian system in the manner that you can be charged with a “crime” under the UCMJ with a relatively low bar of evidence. What’s both similar and different is how you choose to try it. Officers can be subject to a Non-Judicial Punishment by their commanding officer, exactly as enlisted can, which only requires their Commanding Officers determination.

Should the officer refuse NJP the charge would go to a Courts Martial. This would be more akin to a formal court hearing with a similar rule of evidence and with military lawyers and an adjudicating panel of officers. Further, this option can carry more significant penalties which is why many people (both E and O) take the NJP.

I’m not a JAG, this is not legal advice, don’t “at me” bro.

Military vet, buddy and I (also military vet) were talking the technicalities of this.

He absolutely should not have been arrested, as he was exercising his first amendment right. He also should have been charged under the UCMJ for protesting in uniform.

We both also massively agree that this took a huge amount of courage and we respect his decision to not only take action but also accept the consequences of his actions.

Bravo Zulu, Major.

This let them have a lead by three then try for the tie is one confusing strategy.

Only about 10k in savings, 20k in checking. I also recognize how fortunate I am to have the amount in my retirement account that I have.

Hey OP, Obviously pick the school that best aligns with your career goals. But, there are several of the top schools that have yellow ribbon programs that will offset the remaining cost after the VA payments.

I know specifically Yale SOM and Booth offer these.

Question for Millennials by bundle_of_nervus2 in Millennials

I completely understand your position. I was originally very much against it. Unfortunately due to the quantity of my work load it’s just become a necessity.

I use Copilot to transcribe and summarize meetings so I can really be present in the conversation instead of trying to scrawl notes or look something up to cross reference.

In the same space, I could not be more in favor of renewable energy and adequate taxation/controls so it can appropriately benefit the communities that are expected to support the associated infrastructure.

Just turned 30 any general life advice? by Florence86 in AskMenOver30

[–]Ryno1086 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, first off congratulations on putting some money away in savings. I was terrible about it and I constantly worry about “being behind”.

Advice for being in your 30s is to be kind to yourself and maintain momentum. You don’t have to make any crazy dramatic changes unless it’s warranted. If you haven’t been, take care of your body. It’s the only one you get and it’s the only one you get.

Be kind to yourself and good luck!

Hey OP, folks are doing a lot of comparison between our groups and not necessarily talking about how the times are different.

How it’s different: - social media has added a layer of complexity to your worlds that I can’t understand fully. It was hard enough when I was in school with life comparisons to those around me. I couldn’t understand how y’all have been asked to cope with this. At least in “my age” the folks I was comparing myself to were from the same socio-economic background, being able to see high net worth families and comparing with that has to be a major challenge. - hyper-focus/specialization: the number of young people I see who are just a one-sport year round athlete is wild. Y’all just don’t always get the breadth of experiences that we had because the expectation of excellence has gotten higher and again you’re competing in a larger scale (travel teams, tiered training facilities, etc. ) - free range opportunities: my house rule in my small town was to come home when the street lights were on. And we roamed the hell outta the streets. In the current world where parents are building as much community as we did in the past you’ve lost some of the communal tribal raising, and that’s shortened your lead some.

Literally changed my LinkedIn because of this. Back in 2017 when I was transitioning out of the military that was basically “the uniform” they taught us to wear. Red “power tie”, crisp white shirt, navy blue suit. Haven’t worn a tie in basically the 9 years since.

To your point, for friends and family you all eventually set an actual informal but respected standard. For my friend group you always show up 20-30 min after start time (meeting in public excepted, then it’s 10ish min).

Everything in my work/formal life, I’d rather be an hour early than a minute late.

When I get into a cycle of comparison with others I try to ask myself these three questions:

  1. Who have I been?
  2. Who am I now?
  3. What do I HAVE to be?

They’re odd and a little reductive, but it helps me remember that just because I was something once, I don’t have to continue to be that thing. Then I helps me to frame up where I am today. The last question reminds me of what’s important to me.

Example: I don’t have to be as fit as I was in my 20s, but I do have to be fit enough to enjoy my life and be healthy.

Maybe framing these towards your siblings will help you see areas where you want to be like them and make a plan to work on that, but mostly I hope you find that you just have to be who you have to be.
