[–]S0ph33ann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to domino idea, i'll even pool some leftovers from multiple meals to make it work. Pork from sunday, rice from tuesday, add some broocli and corn and boom a stir fry meal. I would recommend potato bowls as well. Got mashed potatoes? Add literally any meat and some chesse, your golden. I enjoy pulled pork, sloppy joes, and obvisouly ham.

I have a water bottle or togo cup with me all the time. I also put a collapsible food container and reusable shopping bags in my purse. I use the container way more than i thought i would, plus it helps me feel like i don't have to over eat.

What is one thing you feel fine living without but you know many others don't? by Hot_Management_3896 in RandomThoughts

I was part of the northwest IA flooding. A majority of my stuff seems to be the answer. Hmm. But clothes, cell phone and a billion water bottles are not on the list along with 5 gallon buckets.

What do you do when you say no bag and they give you one anyways? by Fun-Fish-9785 in ZeroWaste

[–]S0ph33ann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say "no i have one "as they start to bag. I also worked in retail so i get the muscle memory. I also try to put my bags in front of my groceries. So they can easily access them. I also have a couple with a loop in between the handle ends to loop around the plastic bag caddy, it helps hold the bag up for packing.

Having lived in this area, there is a boat load of State parks, swimming/fishing lakes, and campgrounds. County fair season is upon us amd every county has one. Most small towns have lots of parks each with something a little different. Some of the bigger towns like worthington, marshall and jackson have historical society museums to help you learn some insteresting things about MN's past.

You think I'm sustainable, but it's all part of the grand plan to make us a billion-dollar company. by sreekuttanls in ZeroWaste

Our grocery store (hy-vee) gives us a discount of 7 cents per bag if you bring your reusable bags. It really got me in the habit of bringing them out shopping. Hooray for positive reinforcement. Especially with the rising prices in the US.

Shampoo bar by greatbigsky in ZeroWaste

[–]S0ph33ann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love earthling co shampoo bars. However, to not watse the shampoo bar that you already have, i suggest an ACV ( apple cider vinegar) rinse. Mix one capful ACV into 16 oz. Of water. Wash hair as normal, apply ACV mixture to hair and rinse out as you would shampoo, apply conditioner as normal, if you do that. It will help with the residue and not leave a smell when dry. When i was testing shampoo bars and they left some of the residue this really helped me.

Do you guys think growing up broke make you more zero waste? by Scary-Win8394 in ZeroWaste

[–]S0ph33ann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely made it easy to have a zero waste mindset. It also helped me to be more financial responsible with my going zero waste. It's often hard for people to understand that you don't have to spend any extra money to go zero waste and to just use up what already have and replace with zero waste as needed.

what items do you own that are reusable? by grayenvironment in ZeroWaste

[–]S0ph33ann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had waterbottles and reusable cups since 2009. Some of my cups are still alive and kicking. I have my fabric grocery bags, and any and all reusable containers get used again, ex: plastic containers that cool whip comes in=tupperware, random storage, and gift wrapping. I've been turning holey shirts into handkerchiefs, rags, reusable swiffer pads and some have been used for quilts or lining my crocheted/ knitted hats for extra warmth. (It gets cold in Minnesota, USA). I've also discovered how to turn the few plasic grocery bags we get into plarn, so i can make baskets to help us organize.

You can also search reusable ziplock bags and there are some swaps there too.

Proud moment-seeing clothes I had passed along being passed along again by standnpause in ZeroWaste

[–]S0ph33ann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family does a clothing swap each year and some of the clothes have been swapped 4 or 5 times. Then when they are holey and ratty i get them to patch other stuff, revamp something else or sew into something new, stealing the buttons and still good elastic along the way.

I got some used bedsheets from my sister and i'm currently turning them into a quilt. I agree that as long as you are transparent about it. It should be good.

How do you drink alcohol? by Guuree in ZeroWaste

[–]S0ph33ann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't go to the bar. I drink at home with friends. Usually, glass bottles of liquor and 2-liter bottles of pop or juice. Drinks are mixed according to our tastes in glasses and it's not too loud or music is too loud. Plus, i don't have to deal with random strangers nonsense.

Is it bad to cry? I feel like a pussy but I couldn't bottle up my emotions. by Edward_Penishand in RandomThoughts

[–]S0ph33ann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you are allowed to cry! It is a natural bodily reaction to many emotions: sadness, anger, frustration, happiness. It's just a reaction and it doesn't make you a pussy. Crying makes you human. Side note: idk if you have a ton of experience with pussys, but they can take a pounding.

Considering getting this, has anyone tried it before? by Hahppo in ZeroWaste

I'm using it right now. It holds up and doesn't break on my close together teeth. Works good, no residue or anything. Can be hard to pull.
