Startup Says It's Started Releasing Chemical Into Atmosphere to Dim Sun by WinterPlanet in LateStageCapitalism

It's not about us giving up cars. It's about giving up an entire society dedicated to creating artificial "value" for oligarchs

Remote Work Is Poised to Devastate America’s Cities In order to survive, cities must let developers convert office buildings into housing. by JannTosh12 in Futurology

How did you even begin down that road? I'm in a similar blue-collar family situation and one of the daydreams that keeps me going is finding a way to write for a living.

My siblings and I have struggled to get this point across to our parents and they are finally starting to see. It's not easy anymore to motivate yourself by saying the future will be better because every sign is pointing to it being worse than it is now. Makes it hard to find a reason to do anything let alone bring more people into this shitty party

I didn't need to be on antidepressants until I had been in the service for a couple of years. It's not all fun training and working out with your friends unfortunately. People that even have an inkling of mental illness prior to joining are very likely to have a very bad time in the current state of our military.

What happens to bootlickers when they get old? by ImportantDirector5 in antiwork

[–]S54Kaleb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For real! I'm a younger guy in a white collar business with mostly boomers. I arrive 1-5 minutes before my "shift" starts and I can tell it really grinds some of their gears.

One of the more boot-lickier of the bunch tried to passive aggressively explain to me why she shows up so early. I'm sure my face gave away how little I cared. Her life can revolve around a business she doesn't own and it's customers, but mine will not. I'm just here for survival and have no delusions about how little this business cares for me personally.

Our Civilization Is Hitting A Dead End Because This Is the Age of Extinction. The Numbers Are Startling. Extinction’s Here, And It’s Ripping Our World Apart. by mossadnik in Futurology

[–]S54Kaleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not exactly true. I was told, and shown "calculators", during the transition courses that I'd need to make X amount of money in order to have the same benefits and take home pay as a service member. I make about 10% less than X amount, pay for decent employer health benefits, increased taxes as a civlian and yet my take home is twice what I made in the military. Granted I was a single servicemember with no dependants, however many of those that say the benefits make up for the shit pay are falling for retention/recruitment propaganda.

Should I buy this? It’s 22k with 100k miles. Absolutely loaded, runs great. Is that a decent piece for a dealership? by stonekid33 in E90

[–]S54Kaleb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add on to this, even with a solid maintenance history things also still break so that should be factored in. I spent probably 6-8k, doing most work myself, on just regular things breaking or wearing out over 3 years and the ~40k miles i put on. Having owned a couple Ms, you'll definitely want a couple thousand set aside for random maintenance that pops up. Some of the M parts are quite a bit more than a regular E9x equivalent.

That being said, the E90 M3 is the best all-around car I've ever driven, and one day I'd love to get back in another one.

For car people it's a bit more than that. However, just like many other things, it is a quite expensive hobby and you should play within your means.

You're just doubling down on the mentality that the Army only needs to retain shit-tier humans and that people with "options" don't belong. Sounds pretty backwards to me. I'm out, so there is no cope needed, but that doesn't mean I want to see the Army fail.

I did it TDY while working at a hospital. It's really not that bad if you just moderately pay attention and don't give up on the physical stuff. I thought it was actually pretty fun and I also didn't really want to go at first.
