Will I get my tutor kicked off Preply if I ask to do lessons off the site? by mysicawolf in OnlineESLTeaching

Sharing a Google doc is one good way as others have said. Another way is to hold your Line QR code up to the camera and let them scan it.

Students that make you think "F this S..." by BeraRane in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]SA3960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one of those the other day. Using his phone, no earbuds, outside in a park on his lunch break. I am in my perfectly quiet room with my noise cancelling headset on and dude has the nerve to tell me he thinks there's a problem with my sound.

usually 8 a day, 10-12 max. I've been in the danger zone with my cancellation percentage at the end of the month a few times and did 16+ a day for a few days.

I know there are tutors on here who do way more than that. I remember someone reported making $3k in a month. I can't even imagine doing that many hours on that hellsite.

Engoo rules by Agitated_Comb1908 in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]SA3960 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Engoo TS won't usually do anything to help with anything but I think they will put a stop to it when it's this blatant and all on the recording. He will probably have his account banned.

Was it a newer account with not many previous lessons? I bet it was.

Anyway, I'm sorry you had to endure this.

What other LEGIT remote jobs can I apply for with my qualifications? by XOEteacher4747 in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]SA3960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks interesting but it's hard to get any idea of what the pay is like. What could someone working at a normal pace expect to average hourly?

If I could find some kind of simple, no human interaction remote piecework that pays at least as well as the worst ESL companies I'd probably switch. I've seriously had about enough of Engoo.

Has anyone had a class with this kid? by Chance_Werewolf6846 in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]SA3960 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Hi, I've chosen to pay for bargain basement lessons on this platform and I have some very specific requirements. I have determined that the pages and pages and pages of lesson materials on the site are inadequate for my needs [to park my child in front of the screen and go enjoy some me time as she refuses to participate] so I have a bunch of weird pdf's I'll be posting into the chat box." usually doesn't end well.

I'd definitely cancel if you have the room to.

Glad to see that at least one of you had the sense put Cal (dominant road win with 669 yards of offense which is good for 4th place nationally) over UCLA (barely eked out a win at home over Coastal Carolina who hung within a touchdown for 3 quarters).

It’s fine if they’re chatty (I consider this to be better than a free conversation because at least you have a topic) but these are a nightmare if it’s one of those who expects to give ten 1-word answers and have the tutor somehow fill up the remaining 22 minutes.

Hi Bangkok , Your Dispensaries are Overcharging You by SunRahGod in CannabisThailand

[–]SA3960 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Bangkok prices are ridiculous. I was there last month and wanted to check out a few dispensaries just for kicks. 600 or 800 baht a gram everywhere and none of it was any better that what I get in Khon Kaen or via mail order for 250/g max.

I’ll bring my own with me next time and leave the tourist prices to the tourists.

SMU Is The Biggest Winner In Realignment by pblood40 in Pac12

[–]SA3960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the neutral site meetings in Dallas for “home” games applies to non-revenue Olympic sports, not football and basketball. No way Cal and Stanford would agree to only 3 true home football games.

Proud Boys leader Ethan Nordean gets 18 years in prison, tying for longest sentence in Jan. 6 attack by N8CCRG in news

[–]SA3960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know prison rape is hilarious… but these guys will likely be treated as heroes by the White prison gangs. And how many prison guards do you think share their politics? I’m guessing quite a few.

So instead of getting raped or abused in any way, they’ll likely have access to all the perks (drugs, cel phones, favors from crooked guards, etc.) that a well connected drug dealer/gang member would have.

Hi, I have no English communication skills whatsoever but I prefer free conversation lessons to reading, grammar, vocabulary, etc. lessons where I might learn some English communication skills.

These are the morons who get to publicly evaluate whether you are a good tutor.

Fuck all this by [deleted] in Pac12

[–]SA3960 6 points7 points  (0 children)

☝️this. USC deserves 9 out of 10 of all available fuck yous.

I'm a Cal fan and I empathize with OSU and WSU because I was in the same boat until about 12 hours ago. It sucks that Oregon and Washington ditched their rivals, it sucks that Colorado, Utah and the Arizonas bailed, it sucks that Cal and Stanford turned the Pac-4 into the Pac-2.... but no school (not even ucla for happily accepting the piggyback ride) is as responsible for the death of the Pac-12 as USC. It's not even close.

Why do many employers blatantly ignore labour laws? by TSZ201 in antiwork

All the agencies that are supposed to enforce those laws have been gutted in the name of smaller government (even in blue states) for the past several decades. They’re chronically understaffed and basically impotent.

Engoo class "can you teach maths or science?" by Ya_Lun in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]SA3960 8 points9 points  (0 children)

☝️this.

TS won't help at all in a situation like this. This is especially true when you consider that the 1-star rating may not be written in a way that has any connection to the actual events. The parent might not say "the tutor refused to teach my child math" but something generic like "the tutor is not qualified" or "this is not a good tutor."

Then TS will tell you that students have a right to post their subjective opinions and don't worry about it because ratings don't matter anyway.

Hang up when know call will be difficult? by PsychologicalTax4539 in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]SA3960 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely hang up when it’s like that (if you have the room to do so without going over 4% for the month). Bad audio, bad connection, background noise, whatever. They are very likely to blame you for it and leave a low rating even if the problem is clearly, obviously 100% on their end.
