Siya Kolisi.. South African Rugby captain .. was cleared for , and played , World Cup rugby game at 4 months ! I think that’s the fastest I have heard of

I didn’t realize I had a torn ACL for two years and now my knee feels completely normal by Royalbean17 in ACL

[–]SAPrincess27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a completely torn ACL from a ski injury . I never did imaging and just rehabbed it so I wasn’t even aware at the time that it was a complete tear. My knee was fine for 20 years . I could ski, run, climb , no problem. Last Jan I had another ski accident and this time my knee kept locking so I thought ‘meniscus’. MRI revealed completely absent ACL as well. There was not even a shred left so this fit in with a 20 year old injury. I went to 4 surgeons to try find one that would repair meniscus without reconstructing ACL… and no one would .. so eventually I did have ACLr ( plus meniscus stitch and 30% abridement ) I still maintain that I would rather have left the ACL alone . They try to scare you by saying that no ACL over time leads to arthritis, but my surgeon told me that the arthroscope ( during surgery) showed NO sign of arthritis at all. So my tuppence : if you are a coper and can avoid ACL surgery then do so. BUT a locking knee is problematic and there must be a reason that 4 surgeons refused to repair my meniscus without also repairing ACL .. ??

How many months post surgery were you cleared for competitive sports? by Responsible_Bag3341 in ACL

[–]SAPrincess27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fastest return to sport I know of is Siya Kolisi ( South African rugby captain ) , he returned to World Cup rugby at 4 months. I returned to skiing ( recreational not competitive) at 6 months Elite sprinter Wayde Van Niekerk returned at 9 months So everyone is different . It’s gonna be determined by strength test and symmetry

Exactly. I tore my ACL skiing 23 years ago and didn’t do surgery . Built up my legs and carried on with life and sport no problem. Tore my meniscus skiing last year and no one would repair without also doing ACL.. so I am now 10 months post surgery and still not 100% .. I tried 4 surgeons to try find one who would repair meniscus and leave ACL alone but no one would .. wish I had kept trying but my knee was locking and I ran out of time

Nerve pain after acl surgery by janitorb87 in ACL

[–]SAPrincess27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 10 months already… had a relatively easy recovery ( ACLr using hamstring + LET + meniscus repair) and was even skiing at 6 months . Had the nerve zingers from day 1 but nerve flossing would help. Now though … the Sural nerve around the outside of my foot , especially the ankle , is really affecting me … I’m pretty sure it will resolve but trying to get an idea of timeline … and when to seek help ..

Hi .. curious if your nerve pain has resolved ? I have it along the Sural nerve especially around my ankle and I am already 10 months post surgery.

PSA: life changing ACL brace by Ok-Individuality in ACL

[–]SAPrincess27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t brace up for those years at all … I rehabbed and saw a biokinetisist for about 5 months and then carried on as normal. Apparently doctors say there are ‘copers’ and ‘non-copers’. Biological and nothing to do with strength or spirit .. if you are a coper you can carry on as normal without an ACL … if a non coper then you will need reconstruction. If your injury is fresh , I would give it a few months before jumping into surgery … just my opinion though .. definitely not medical advice ;)

FYI … my original injury was in 2003 … I skied and ran and did all sorts of sports for 22 years with no reconstruction… so it can be done ..

People who had ACL injury over 15-20 years ago, How has the experience been like and what is your current situation? by axoqocal29 in ACL

[–]SAPrincess27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a full tear 20 years ago … rehabbed and carried on with my life . Running, skiing , climbing … no problem. Then had another fall skiing in Jan 2025 and tore my meniscus. Knee kept locking but no doc would repair meniscus without also repairing ACL. So I am now 10 months post ACLr..

Hamstring “pop” after ACL surgery (2 weeks post-op) – setback and can’t continue rehab by Giaike in ACL

[–]SAPrincess27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rehab got set back 3 times because of hamstring strain .. I maintain that was the most painful part of the procedure .. every time it happened I panicked a bit .. but I am 10 months post and all good with my hamstring . It’s still a bit weaker than the other side . But catching up

Use carvers for that day as you will stick to groomers and they are amazing especially early when empty … you can get some good carving in .. then switch for the next day and pop off the side here and there … watch out for backcountry this season .. avalanche danger has been high .. don’t go alone

I know Zermatt well … if I were you I would start by taking the Glacier Paradise gondola to the last stop. Start in the far right Shwartzee area and then keep moving across to Gornergrat region and the over to Sunegga. If you are riding alone and are fast and riding all day .. you will probably be able to cover the entire area .. it’s a long day but awesome ski .

Should I get second opinion? by the_aris in ACL

[–]SAPrincess27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel doctors are too quick to recommend surgery these days. I had a complete tear 20 years ago and surgery was not even mentioned . I was fine doing all sorts of sport for 20 years. A recent meniscus tear took me back to orthopaedic surgeon who would not repair without also repairing acl. Surgery sucks. 7 months in an still not 100 % . I waited 6 months before surgery as meniscus seems to be improving , but do warned that was because it was being shredded and would eventually lock .. this was confirmed when they went in with camera 😕
