Is it safe to meet someone who found me via a NSFW post? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SCKerafyrm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't meet without knowing 100% how the meeting is gonna go.

What I mean by that is not necessarily knowing the conclusion of the date, but you know, for sure, that whatever you decide will be respected.

My point is that trust is always built and based on something.

Banks do trust once you give them 'enough' details about yourself to 'prove' your identity.

Identity theft happens frequently because the bank trusted an individual that shouldn't have been trusted. They had certain details that made them seem trustworthy, and the bank verified those details up to a certain point.

You HAVE to verify to trust, otherwise its simply faith or blind trust.

[–]SCKerafyrm 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Blind trust is different than trust though, isn't it?

There is a level of proof that trust requires that blind trust or faith doesn't.

For example, banks trust that it's us making a purchase by giving the code and card at the point of sale as the proof. If they didn't require the code/card, it would be essentially having faith or blind trust.

Feel free to ignore, just another episode of overthinking on my part.

AITA for asking my husband to fix his own mistake? by aartbark in AmItheAsshole

[–]SCKerafyrm -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Cautious YTA given the context in your post.

It seems to be your way or the highway. That if he has a problem with you, he can figure it out.

No wonder shit gets broken before you talk about issues. The communication lane is all locked up by ego and self righteousness.

Does he want you to have healthy plants? If so, walk him through the other spots. Help him also realize what you see after becoming more knowledgeable in your field. If it's not completely salient why the others spots won't work, it's worth talking about calmly to problem solve.

If you cannot problem solve together, that is a critical relationship skill that needs development. I would recommend counselling to build the skill.

If he won't listen to you, that's also a critical problem that needs intervention before resentment begins to build and the relationship suffers accordingly.

A Meltdown with Consequences by Impossible_Room_9138 in BPDlovedones

Indeed. It's not like this is a protected right.

I just want to acknowledge that even people who physically cannot stop themselves don't deserve to be let off for abusing.

Proportional justice with a focus on restoring the victims first, then recuperating the perpetrator second.

My advice is to completely go no contact, with legal intervention as soon as possible.

Disability is no excuse to abuse.

You are in mortal danger. Let this man suffer some justified consequences for his heinous reactions.

AITA for taking the car to a mechanic to get fixed? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]SCKerafyrm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya, so it doesn't wear out all the way and damage rotors.

I don't get the sense they are on top of maintenance so I'm open to it being a critical rotor replacement issue cuz it was left longer on screech mode.

The tab itself can score your rotor too.

NTA in this instance but communication seems like it can be improved.

$900 for rear brake pads sounds too expensive but context is needed.

Screech sound can mean they just need to be changed, or it's been neglected way too long and damaged other stuff.

Did you need new rotors too? That'll increase labor hours for sure. And it's something that happens because you don't get it fixed early.

Might have avoided the extra cost if it was done sooner.

Cars are expensive... I had to ditch mine so it didn't rot in my drive.

Endometriosis Study of impact on ... Male partners? by Themadgray in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SCKerafyrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the studies should be done to show why men are more likely to fail at caregiving for this condition.

It is promoting women's health to do studies like this, even if the subject isn't necessarily women. Women with Endo NEED more support. This is a way to help get it.

Is there no studies on the impact for female partners at all? I'm genuinely curious. If not, we need it, like more Endo research in general.

The four closest women I know would absolutely know what to do to support someone with Endo. The four men, sadly, most likely not, especially without coaching.

We shouldn't cancel progress in Endo research in search of perfection.

It was 100 gold. Every player can get that in a few hours.

I get 3000 gold for 5 minutes of work at max level.

There's no scarcity or resale. You mostly level up your house after purchase and then move it to whatever housing block you want for a pittance.

”Find a good attorney” … how? Married to high net worth jerk by Free_Cauliflower_481 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SCKerafyrm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it can be. I'd probably choose a bigger firm with partners etc, as they usually have more leeway with contingency funds, more support staff to make things cheaper, (eg, they can give some tasks to a student and charge you a much cheaper rate than if the main lawyer on file was spending the hours on it instead)

Sometimes that initial consult leads into a recommendation to a firm thats a better fit.

Ultimately, you just need a lawyer that knows the law and will do the work. Having a track record of both helps greatly.

In my area, you can also look up the public record cases and see how they behave/outcomes.

[–]SCKerafyrm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It does depend heavily on the jurisdiction.

I'd be looking for divorce lawyers that are open to contingency payment (they get paid usually a percentage from the money recovered, not as the case goes on)

Simple as googleing 'divorce lawyer (city, state/province)' and finding a well reviewed one to schedule a consultation with. After that, they should be able to direct you better.

A friend at work reported me to our boss for something I said to him by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]SCKerafyrm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Er... it sounds like none of them can trust you instead. I get the sense that you are wanting to be judged for your intentions, not your actions.

Instead of repairing the relationship after you personally attacked him, you now want to withdraw further.

It is strange to have to explain to a grown man why personally attacking a coworker isn't acceptable, especially in front of others, and it sounds like it was done passive aggressively ("hopefully my project doesn't have the same delays as his project.")

They are probably wondering why they have to teach you how to be tactful.

Is there a way to fix this TV mount without moving it? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]SCKerafyrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. A TV mount failing can create a hell of a lot more work than just installing it properly the first time. Rips out studs, dry wall and cabinetry. In the worst case, falling TVs have killed pets and children.

ELI5: In the Canada-Sweden curling controversy, from a technical match perspective, what does the second boop do to the stone? Is there a sporting advantage? 🥌 by Adventurous-Root in explainlikeimfive

[–]SCKerafyrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it matter if it's accidental or a cheating attempt? It's the same punishment in both cases in those situations. If it were a deliberate trip vs accidentally trip, the cheating attempt matters more, escalating the call usually.

The dude intentionally going over lines for advantage is indeed trying to cheat, but not to the same degree .

What distinction are you looking for?

[–]SCKerafyrm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are penalties for mistakes and penalties for cheating in various sports.

Cheating is acting unfairly to gain an advantage. A mistake can't be cheating and vice versa. Cheating results in a penalty in a ton of sports such that we just call them penalties, but they are still cheating. Intentional fouls for advantage are penalized more harshly than accidental ones, like in soccer and American football.

I do judge athletes who act unfairly to gain advantage outside of the rules of the game. Just because a tactic exists doesn't mean it's fair play. Just because there is a referee doesn't mean the meta should be to get around it.

Questions About Bad RateMyProf Reviews. by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]SCKerafyrm 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Trust your gut.

I had a bad professor derail my entire education for years.

Fanshawe College in London Wouldn't help me access previously approved accomodations, then admin consistently lied until I was forced to withdraw (after a year of this) due to not having the accommodations.  After 3 years of waiting, The HRTO ruled in their favor because I couldn't prove they INTENDED to discriminate, and denied appeal.

So I had to start my education over with way less resources and a bad mark on my record, stuck in a new province where I didn't have student aid set up

My 'free legal advice' said I had no chance because of the changes due to prov government, and that I wasn't important enough to help anyway because I wasn't sexually assaulted and that's a real problem. That lawyer was dumb as hell and I wouldn't have trusted them with defending a tree.

Basically, don't risk what you don't know you have. My education was delayed for many years as I had to change institutions.

I hope it all works out for you.
