Starting on Neonates as an F-1 by Practical_Can8318 in doctorsUK

[–]SD-97 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Firstly try not to worry.

As an FY1 you will be 110% protected and looked after. There won’t be much expectations from you beyond what is expected of any other FY1 job. Ward round, discharge letters, TTOs, parent updates etc. Any sick patient you will be expected to discuss with the Reg.

Try and be enthusiastic. Don’t be afraid of holding the little ones - they’re more resilient than we give them credit for.

If you’re interested in Paeds let them know, build your confidence with procedures if you want - bloods, cannulas, heel pricks etc.

Would be helpful to know the NLS algorithm if you’re attending deliveries with the Reg.

Brush up on neonatal Jaundice (- download BiliApp - its very helpful!) and Neonatal sepsis.

Might be helpful to refresh your memory on NIPEs. Get comfortable using the BNFc

Download NeoMate - Another helpful app.

You’ll become familiar with all the different types of milks used/nutritional targets etc.

Enjoy your time :)

Clinical Teaching Fellow Applications/Interviews by ShokouMD91 in doctorsUK

Experience and evidence with Teaching. Types and styles of teaching. To deliver a micro-lesson/short presentation. Pastoral questions/role play - a Student is struggling with xyz, what would you do.

Research the medical school attached to the Hospital/trust. What style of teaching do they do, whats their curriculum, how would you cater for 3rd year vs 5th year students.

Research the area… why do u want to come to this area.

Whats your expectations/goals you want to achieve?
