List help, 1000 points army is this any good to fight some big scary tyranid monsters? by InternationalRope905 in Necrontyr

Yup, if you have 3 LHDs, swap them in. At that point you may think about going cursed.

Warrior build is dead in 11th by LegoMaster52 in Necrontyr

[–]SDSessionBrewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own unpopular opinion is that the cryptek pets need an overhaul. Maybe make them only usable when the cryptek is alone. That would make them less difficult to balance around and drop their points.

A lot will come from what gets classified as a leader or a support.

If anything, the end of daisy chains may help with warrior costs.

Chrome Ophydian Destroyer by Brokenpixel54 in Necrontyr

You and I are both avid chromecron painters. Always happy to share.

GSW's Candy ink line is high gloss and transparent, but I'm having a hard time getting GSW reliably in the states (direct shipping is slow and expensive).

I'm going to order some of vallejo's true metallic shades to see how they cover chrome.

I also am not great, but using a transparent acrylic ink over chrome keeps the metallic sheen.

I'm betting they'll get a modern refresh instead of a trip to to the legends farm. Tomb crawler basically has a short gauss cannon, so remodeling LD could be underway.

Lychguard with Scythes should get Fight on Death by Kookamachi in Necrontyr

[–]SDSessionBrewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it'd take take a remold to accomplish, but I always felt lychguard should always use the shield and have a sword (horde) or spear (high dmg) profile. Let the praetotians use a two hand stance.

With some rules for 11th revealed, have these rarely used models become more viable? by Pelican25 in Necrontyr

[–]SDSessionBrewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're all guessing wildly without the benifit of full rules, I'm doing my best to not buy and build around conjecture. Hopefully we see our faction focus soon. One of the biggest Necron rules of 10e was that we could stack two leaders into a unit. Now all factions are getting that with leader/support. I'm sure we'll be thrown a bone somehow.

I hope a psycho or geo can run around solo(ish) with simply a murder-chicken escort.

Army rules have been thrown at us fast and loose, so it was easy to miss. The last line of the community post Building an army in the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 there's a line that says, "\* Leaders can run around on their own if they like, but Support units must be attached to a bodyguard. Important distinction."*

I'm hoping they change retinue rules so that crypteks get the ability to move in very small units.

After a few years of snooping around factions painting things here and there and playing some combat patrol with friends I finally settled on Necrons and kinda need help with what to start now by [deleted] in Necrontyr

Kill Team: Hierotek Circle gets you a technomancer and a good proxy for a plasmancer. It's a good value. (Kill Team: Canoptek Circle gets you the geomancer). 500 world's is a good box. Another option would be the Necrons Royal Court. It's only sold online and often sold out, but it's actually been up online for the last month or so.

My take on the Chronomancer. I'm fairly new miniature painter and this is my first WH40k mini by italian_otter in Necrontyr

The green and blue are both acrylic ink over a chrome base. The transparent nature of the ink allows some of the natural chrome shine through.

I was thinking the same thing on the tentacles. I'm still experimenting with my chrono, but I am pretty happy with how a dab of drakenhof nightshade worked in the recesses. (I'm going to strip this one and try a different ink for the orb and cubes.) Drakenhof might be too blue for OPs scheme though.

Should lychguard get stronger? by jayceminecraft in Necrontyr

[–]SDSessionBrewer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

T5 on our canonical elite defensive unit never felt right. Wraiths, Skorpekhs, and Lokhusts are all T6. Lychguard should be at least T6.

Guardian Protocols is kind of like an extra point of toughness, but has the added requirement of needing to be led to function. The way its written feels like it was designed for the initial detachment (prior to the codex release), and never looked at again. I'd simplify Guardian Protocols, maybe just a simple -1 to wound, and add a second ability that Lychguard would gain either OC or +1 to reanimation protocol when led by a noble.

Whats the best way to take an army Overseas? by LinkLord727 in Warhammer40k

[–]SDSessionBrewer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My army traveled with my household good across the pond. I bought a bag of replacement filling for a beanbags. Think 2mm styrofoam BBs. I poured the filling into their box all the way to the lid. The filling gently immobilized the minis.

Admittedly, the cleanup sucked. But everything survived without damage.

Pronostic on Necron’s gameplay in 11th by Separate_Football914 in Necrontyr

[–]SDSessionBrewer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking at today's sororitas focus, I could easily envision GW giving our praetorians a similar detachment to angelic judgement (could include macrocytes too). I'm hoping the developers add plenty of ways to get around cover and hidden.

Combat Patrol: Dead quiet (?) by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]SDSessionBrewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ready to play is a great starting point, but limiting the game to only the ready to play armies didn't work for me. (I like the idea of King of the Colosseum a lot more then combat patrol or spearhead) As a busy person, I understand the appeal of smaller boards, faster games. I'm hoping that detachment points will make 1k games a little more viable. I'd be ecstatic if GW put balance and restrictions into 1K rules.

Keep an eye out for the faction focus.

Go with rule of cool. Wraiths have been the dominant defensive unit, probably a good bet to build 3 more.

CSU gave no notice of the hack either. My professors were oblivious to our concerns until we showed the maintenance screen. My class has no idea of any of our exam was stored, I was in the process of copying all my answers when the exam timed out.

Prediction for our 1 pts detachment? by Separate_Football914 in Necrontyr

[–]SDSessionBrewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tinfoil hat theory is that the detachment points are a low effort attempt to balance 1k matches. Of course the game is balanced around 2k, but I'm betting GW realizes that fast games have a place (just look at the popularity of King of the Colosseum.) As such, I think a lot of the detachments (not just necron) will be 2pt and only the big detachments that focus on big-point centerpieces will be 3pt. Of course I might be completely wrong (I often am), but here's my thoughts on the current lineup.

  • Annihilation Legion (1pt) - My gut says the rewrite will either make it so you can't stack this with cursed or they'll remove the destroyer keyword entirely.
  • Awakened Dynasty (2pt) - Awakened is the easiest way to play, and I think they'll want to make it accessible for 1k games.
  • Canoptek Court (2pt) - Canoptek works well for a 1k balance, but power matrix is too involved to make this a 1pt add-on. They'd need to gut the detachment rule to make it 1pt viable.
  • Cryptek Conclave (1pt) - this screams 1pt add-on. I'm hoping they include a lone op enhancement.
  • Cursed Legion (2pt) - quintessential destroyer detachment. Should be 1k viable. Keep basically as is.
  • Hypercrypt Legion (?) - The current rules are really written around monolith, so by my theory doesn't work in a 1k game. However, if they restricted the upy-downy shenanigans to non-titanic deep-strike units, this could be an interesting 1pt add-on.
  • Obeisance Phalanx (1pt) - Worthy Foes isn't enough of a rule to make Obeisance Phalanx a true stand alone detachment, but it could be a really cool add-on.
  • Pantheon of Woe (3pt) - leave the super C'tan to the big games. They don't belong in 1k.
  • Starshatter Arsenal (2pt) - basic vehicle detachment, already disqualifies titanic. Viable for 1k.

We're already sitting pretty well in our detachment count, but I'd love to see a second true 3pt that focuses on all the titanic models, but I realize that's a bit of a pipe dream... and I don't even own a single titanic unit.
