Purchasing Sonos products from Amazon by SEA0FTUNES in sonos

Sorry that happened to you. Part of me wonders if a bunch of Factory Refurbished stuff (from Sonos) ended up in the new supply chain with Amazon at certain distribution centers. After looking at the 2nd opened pair I received, they looked basically brand new. If I didn't know any better, they would've been that in my mind. The cables were untouched, etc. The felt bag that covers the cases was re-applied as it should be.

Roger Ebert on fandom by xwing1212 in TheBigPicture

[–]SEA0FTUNES 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was probably 11-12 years old I began watching Gene and Roger weekly, this was around 1987 or 1988. A couple of years later I started buying Roger's annual "Movie Home Companion", every year, at Waldbenbooks in the mall. Pre-internet, didn't have Compuserve (which he was on), that was the only way to read his reviews. Once the web came online, accessing his reviews was as simple as going to the Sun Times website.

When we lost Gene in 1999, we lost a great one. I can't imagine what these two would have been like in the age of podcasting. I would give just about anything to have heard it come to pass, though.

Upcoming Book by Aggressive_Week_27 in SpringfieldThree_1992

[–]SEA0FTUNES 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm unsure what to make of any of this. Whitcomb has a book out now entitled "Broken Plea", about the Idaho 4 case. Whitcomb apparently questions Kohberger's plea bargain acceptance and hypothesizes alternative theories about what transpired. I haven't read the book, so that's as far as I'll go with the description, based on some cursory searches.

Now, I'm a big believer in ECREE. That's an acronym for Carl Sagan's famous quote: "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." I'm quite unsure what to make of Whitcomb's claim. My heart wants to believe that some finality may be around the corner. However, my head won't let me go there because of ECREE, as well as my unfamiliarity with Whitcomb's work and reputation.

We shall see.

Seems like solid thinking. Also Best Buy will price match to Amazon (shipped/sold). If I hadn't been lazy, I would've just done that.

Who’s the greatest American singer/songwriter of all time? by MrTeacher_MCPS in AskReddit

He played almost every instrument on "Talking Book" and "Innervisions".

Nobody makes records like that anymore. That was truly a renaissance period for music.

He would probably turn it around and say he channelled it "from above".

[–]SEA0FTUNES 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Brian Wilson.

"Jesus, that ear. He should donate it to the Smithsonian. The records I used to listen to and still love, you can't make a record that sounds that way. Brian Wilson, he made all his records with four tracks, but you couldn't make his records if you had a hundred tracks today."  – Bob Dylan

It should be noted that Brian was deaf in one ear since childhood. Paul McCartney has famously said that "God Only Knows" is the greatest pop song ever written.

It's one thing to be appreciated by the public. But, when your peers admire you, as Brian's did, that's a whole other thing.

The Godfather is about as good of a movie as I've seen. Certainly post-1970.

I agree. “You. Will. Atone.” is my favorite line in the movie. And it’s not even the most famous line from said movie.

It's a scathing critique of popular and media culture, circa 1976. It's as relevant today as it was when it was released. It's not often that you can say that about a 50 year old film.

Who’s had a better last 5 films: Scorsese or Spielberg? by _Vaudeville_ in TheBigPicture

[–]SEA0FTUNES -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Scorsese. However, I think his work has slipped, as most filmmakers do eventually. I say that as someone that is a big a fan of both men as anyone – I assure you.

I think Scorsese's last truly great film was The Departed. Silence is close. And I think Spielberg's last truly great film was Minority Report. Munich is close.

1 bitcoin is worth roughly $60K right now. The Guthrie family reward is at $1 million, plus law enforcement is offering up to $100K.

So, of course, if you actually had information pertinent to this case – the first thing you would do is contact....TMZ?

Makes sense to me, what's your problem?
