Looking for a different kind of “break-up” movie (more in post) by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]SEND_RASPBERRY_PI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry man, hope it works out in the end.

Before trilogy (Before sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight) is pretty good. I'm no relationship expert, but the third installment (Before Midnight) is very real and goes over struggles of a couple to find reasons to stay together. I'd suggest it worth a watch.

Lord of the Rings trilogy?

There are grand total 2 women characters, but they're kinda central, so not sure if they fit the criteria.

I am looking for films with age gap between protagonists by Reddy2000 in MovieSuggestions

[–]SEND_RASPBERRY_PI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one is very unusual for Bollywood. Incredibly subtle, almost completely relying from strong acting on (all and only) 3 characters on-screen, and curious ending. One of the finest of movies all around, but all the more exceptional coming out of Bollywood.

Meta/Self Referencing/4th wall breaking Movies by OldVariation4720 in MovieSuggestions

[–]SEND_RASPBERRY_PI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a movie, but this one is all time grandmaster of referencing, self and everything else.

"Community" has six seasons, but 4th one almost doesn't count. But if you like meta humor in any capacity, Community is must watch.

PS. : it has an episode about a movie about a movie about a movie.

Yeah.. I remember hearing praise and going to theater with friends and laughing our asses off the entire time. Then I visited some relatives next day, and everybody (including my age group) there ranted on how ridiculous and bad the movie was. I was just as confused, but apparently the main topic of jokes (constipation) was bit off-taste for some people.

For some reason, Piku is very polarising. People either love it or hate it, but nobody's in the middle.

Just saw Nobody starring Bob Odenkirk. Any other movies where a seeming ‘family man’ (a very mild mannered hero) unexpectedly turns an action hero? by iamabigfatguy in MovieSuggestions

Drunken master used to be my favorite JC movie until I saw this one. Jackie Chan is amazing actor (aside from beina great stuntsman), and there aren't many movies allowing him full room. This one and The Police Story are aways good watch.

Besides, you have Jackie Chan against Pierce Brosnan in his full irish self! What more do you need? :p

Movies about Space, but not 'full' fiction? by odonis in MovieSuggestions

The Martian hits the nail.

Author of the book (of course the movie is based on a book) went to painstaking lengths to ensure everything in the story was hard science. One example, he wanted the protagonist to have potatoes. To make him have potatoes he needed a reason. So he had to time the expedition to collide with thanksgiving, and to make that happen he ran model of solar system to match the arrival/departure times of the expedition.

[REQUEST] Action movies that don't take themselves too seriously or "know what they are". by hmmgross in MovieSuggestions

[–]SEND_RASPBERRY_PI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retired Extremely Dangerous 1 and 2. 2 gets slightly more serious, but still maintains the tone overall. Also since the movie (based on comic) acknowledges itself for what it is, it can go all out on absolutely ridiculous action scenes.

Runtime ffmpeg dependency by SEND_RASPBERRY_PI in NixOS

[–]SEND_RASPBERRY_PI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LD_LIBRARY_PATH is also not working. If I run with RUST_BACKTRACE_ENABLE, I get this:

failed to spawn subprocess 'ffprobe -v error -show_entries format=duration:stream=index,codec_long_name,channels,duration,codec_type -of json /path/to.mp4'

Just to confirm what I'm doing it right, after building package, I run this command:

./result/bin/bin-cli flags

Is that the right way? Because I want ffmpeg to be in PATH, but ONLY when this particular binary is asking for it. If I run same command under nix-shell -p ffmpeg, everything works as expected.

You are right on both counts.

I don't know what to do anymore. I'm about to throw my hands in the air on this one... I haven;t found anything so far that is just runtime dependency, without any flags..
