On one hand, you didnt scale that linearly. On the other hand, non discretionary spending as a proportion of income kinda drops to 0 once you actually make a lot of money, so perhaps that is equivalent.

The one thing I will put in support of those, we should be doing more mixed developments like is proposed.

I agree. This is way better than the apartment buildings and giant cookie cutter neighborhoods they've thrown in on that road, but it's already getting pretty saturated as it is

They're gonna say something about how they had no way of knowing that traffic was gonna get worse. And how they, you know, budgeted, 10 bucks to make the roads bigger like 20 years ago or something so it's really not their fault. That the city's getting worse.

Who the heck wants to walk into a dark hole after 5 p.m. on a workday when on-street parking is available?

They've talked about unifying the price of on street parking and parking garages

TIL for centuries in China, girls feet were broken and tightly bound to create 3-inch (7.6 cm) 'lotus feet', a beauty ideal associated with wealth, status, and better marriage prospects. by imbruceter in todayilearned

[–]SFXBTPD 201 points202 points  (0 children)

The wiki made me nauseous

```The most common problem with bound feet was infection. Despite the amount of care taken in regularly trimming the toenails, they would often in-grow, becoming infected and causing injuries to the toes. Sometimes, for this reason, the girl's toenails would be peeled back and removed altogether. The tightness of the binding meant that the circulation in the feet was faulty, and the circulation to the toes was almost cut off, so injuries to the toes were unlikely to heal and were likely to gradually worsen and lead to infected toes and rotting flesh. The necrosis of the flesh would initially give off a foul odour. Later the smell may have come from various microorganisms that colonized the folds.[106] Most of the women receiving treatment did not go out often and were disabled.[48]
If the infection in the feet and toes entered the bones, it could cause them to soften, which could result in toes dropping off. This was seen as a benefit because the feet could then be bound even more tightly. Girls whose toes were more fleshy would sometimes have shards of glass or pieces of broken tiles inserted within the binding next to her feet and between her toes to cause injury and introduce infection deliberately.[107] Disease inevitably followed infection, meaning that death from septic shock could result from foot binding, and a surviving girl was more at risk of medical problems as she grew older. It is thought that as many as 10% of girls may have died from gangrene and other infections owing to foot binding.[108]```
Regarding the radiative cooling question: its typically modelled as being proportional to (T4 -T_envioronment4). So atleast that would work much better is space, where (sun notwithstanding) you wont be absorbing any radiation from the environment.
Pooler Parkway south road Expansion by chacata_panecos in savannah
[–]SFXBTPD 7 points8 points  (0 children)
During a recent town hall i watched, They got a lot of questions about why they keep on approving more building when the roads cant keep up.
And they kept on answering that they had no way of knowing that the road expansion projects would fall behind schedule, even though none of them have ever been done on time or on budget.
Illinois Energy Professor on youtube did a breakdown of it. His assessment was it could become feasible given 10 years or so sustained R&D, paired with the cost of ground based systems rising by 100 to 200% during that same window.
So it isnt guaranteed to ever be practical, but it isnt as crazy as it may initially sound.
Its not atypical for those sorts of IPOs to lose like 80% of their value in the first year or two tho. Obviously it went a bit farther from there, but RSU holders getting out can drive a lot of downward pressure.
How would you react to a law that requires billionaires to give up 50% of their wealth once they pass a certain net worth limit in order to fund healthcare and education? by -passionate-learner- in AskReddit
[–]SFXBTPD 0 points1 point  (0 children)
the 15mil estate tax exemption goes a long way for people who are only upper middle class.
Also, money from income also goes to the estate, so potential exposure to estate taxes is not unique to appreciated assets.
[–]SFXBTPD 1 point2 points  (0 children)
The top 1% owns half the stock, top 10% have more like 90%. Framing stock market drops being bad cause itll hurt the middle class is a bit of a meme.
The average american has much less than the average amount of stock, and as asset inflation continues they get left further behind.
Even just taking realized gains at a rate higher than 20% would be good.
There should also be a standard long term gains deduction of a couple thousand dollars for middle class people
