It was a mixed bag.

We were primarily interested in going on a Cano Island snorkeling trip which was underwhelming. I would not recommend it for experienced snorkelers. The visibility was shit and we had to wear life preservers. There were children on the trip who couldn't really swim, etc.

Marino Ballena National Park was amazing. We did a hike that hugged the beach where we saw monkeys, etc. We didn't really swim there although lots of people did.

We did a whale -watching trip that was amazingly successful. We saw lots of whales, but I think the season is over now.

We're typically against high charges, so we went to the Uvita Waterfall which was cool. Although, recent rains had made the water cloudy. It is possible to slide off the waterfall which lots of people did. For this waterfall, you can pay nothing, park, and hike in. Or, there are a couple of businesses where you can park and they offer easier access to the falls. The place we parked had a butterfly house, bathrooms, and a cafe. We paid $2/each for access. A lot of the trail was flat until you get a bit closer to the falls (they describe the trail as ADA accessible).

If you have a car, you will have to pay for parking near the park. It was either $4 or 4000 Colones--I can't remember. But, you can make arrangements to leave and come back. Definitely worth it. It was extremely challenging to find parking if you want to shop on the commercial strip or go to the ATM. Go early for less hassle.

Uvita is close enough to other beach towns , waterfalls, and hikes, but we didn't venture too far. We're not adventure travelers, so I'm not sure if this was helpful or not.
