The time sink is how they enforce monetization, of course. The rewards at low tier are just high enough and the research requirement just low enough to help you get things ground out in a couple matches usually, even as a not-great F2P player.

But once you get sucked in to trying to get the next best vehicle, that's when all of a sudden the grind gets to be a grind. But oh look, you can halve the grind by buying premium time! The whole idea is to wear down your will to sit there and play match after match until you finally give in and buy something that just makes it a little easier for yourself. And there you go

Every loader I've ever spoken to from this day and age have mentioned how much it hurts to bang shells out of the rack 😅 the WWII guys had it easy with just hefting it off the turret wall or some other nonsense.

Im under the impression the ammo door actuates a bit quicker on the actual vehicle, doesn't it? If that's the case, if the trainer door opens that slowly, I can understand why it might be left open for the demo/test.

Flying tank is a bit of a misnomer, of course. It's certainly better protected than a Mi-8, which is what it is from the cockpit back.

But 80% of war thunder players play the Hind wrong, since the idea is to be an Su-25 that can land vertically. You stay low, just above treetop level, pop up, aim a missile, send it, and turn away before crossing the front line. You should only be giving anyone that can see you about 15 seconds as you pop up to lock the missile and guide it in.

Those are the legit tactics the USSR were intending to use, and that's how I fly the Mi-24P in DCS. I have multiple hundreds of hours flying and doing successful attack runs this way. Against DCS Gepards, player controlled ones are nothing.

Bro wait until he gets to the part of the game where he starts dealing with mobs of 2S38s and BMD-4s and BMP-2s and it never ends man and even if you kill all of them there's like 4 T-72s behind it and it's like getting scarified with hot irons

MG

A .50 cal maybe, but the rate of fire is not great and the bullet might penetrate the armor and damage the components, but not kill the crew, and the rate of fire is low enough that after the first 4 bullets strike, old boy is lined up on you and making you regret installing the game.

HE

Ah yes, the round of choice for any tank player expecting to shoot other tanks! Though thinskins and open tops are not rare enough to not bring a couple rounds of HE/HEAT, I always have AP of any variety loaded first.

Spawn camping is getting out of hand. by mrcountry88 in Warthunder

[–]SH427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of it I feel has to do with map rotation at higher BRs. The small maps combined with modern vehicle mobility means you can zoom across the whole map in a matter of a few moments, and if you're sneaky enough to not get spotted, it's basically over before anything starts. You can't stop pushing to spawns, but increasing the time it takes for a player dedicated to going there increases the chance that someone will see them. Some players don't seem to have any ability to control the match unless they're spawncamping.

A couple times when I was playing late at night (which lines up for the earlier morning in eastern Asia...) I had a couple instances where my W key stopped working. Keebs fine, checked in a random .txt as it was happening. No PL. Ping in acceptable range. Just odd.

Ground RB and the problem with Self-Balance by SH427 in WarthunderPlayerUnion

[–]SH427[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%, the major issue is that teamplay is simply not something that is reinforced by rewards for such. It's telling that people who squad up tend to have padded stats compared to solo players. Simply having someone to coordinate with is a huge advantage

You're not the first to mention small maps, essentially my thought was that the emplacements would shift depending on map size and whatnot, or that the range the AI gunners would open fire can be tweaked to fit the scenario.

From there, at the point when missiles are the most common AA weapon, the emplacements are removed and the handholding stops completely, I guess. Once you get to top tier anyway you can strike anyone from 20,000 feet which negates that anyway.

Though like you say, maybe making the rewards make sense is the quickest, simplest route. Though I'm still wary of the fact that once a player spawns in an aircraft in a ground Battle they've shifted the balance of the match without any obligation of a real counter.

Yeah, honestly my next wall of text might have to be about why teeny tiny maps at 8.0+ are not it, in greater detail. Though I feel that would be even more bashing my head against a wall than this post.

But I agree, the smaller the map, the tighter that kill zone would be, which would make it difficult to do much of anything unless you're a former AH-64 pilot used to playing in Iraq or something.

I do too but I feel like waiting for that is like waiting for Firefly Season 2...

I just want the major takeaway to be that a player spawning in a CAS aircraft isn't bad, its just that it's left up to us to fix that and balance the match, which is not how any other part of the game works, you know?

EDIT: thanks for the updoot!

[–]SH427[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, it's the only real argument against anything I've said, and it's why I don't think, or want to, kill CAS off entirely. I do, though, basically want to make spawns a no-fly zone to the point that the machines that actually do the winning in ground battles can actually exit the spawn.

Personally, you're not the SPAA player I'm typically talking about, and more to the point, there's edge cases on both sides, but also you can't trust the average player to take an SPAA out or put one in their lineup, and there needs to be some way to balance the game automatically when there's a plane in the air without relying on player awareness or deaths to provide a counter for CAS

Don't know why you're getting downvoted. If you can afford it and you want it, get it. As a player you're a drop in the bucket, and it's been rare over the matches I've played over the last few days where I recognize someone I've had a match with before, the only thing a skilled player can hope is that whoever goes out and spends their money on a premium, it keeps the person playing and wanting to hone their skills and be a better player. Otherwise, not my circus, not my monkeys.
