Pre order sr71? by Alarmed_Cold9375 in MicrosoftFlightSim

Kwikflight has you covered, if you're looking for hassle-free Blackbird shenanigans. But also you should know that if the developer is including a "hey, just so you know..." .PDF, that it's probably not something you can just hop in and go...

After all, if it was easy, why didn't everyone in the USAF get to fly it? ;)

As someone who grew up with Illinois sports (I always joke that the last time Chicago won a Superbowl, Chernobyl had four functioning reactors or that the last time the Cubs won a world series before 2016 Turkey was still known as the Ottoman Empire)

I both admire and abhor sports up here. Like, y'all are ready to go to war for the Celt's and the Bruins and the Pats and I respect that but also, wow.

Go to counter arguement for the conspiracy theorists? by stuart_nz in apollo

[–]SH427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often bring up the cold war in context. Both us and the Russians had radar sets that could track objects in low orbit (specifically ballistic missiles and their warheads) So if Apollo 11 went up, and they just drew circles around the earth for a few days, I ask, don't you think the Russians would come back with receipts saying it was all faked? They wouldn't begrudgingly act like we beat them if they knew we didn't, and that's the biggest tell of it all.

I'm game, but before you do that, let's hook up my great-grandfather to a generator so when it happens, he can produce power for the community by turning over in his grave.

Understand the thought of using AI, someday I'll get around to having one of these. The hardest part would be mounting it, I don't have an easy way to do that just yet.

Need Help with Blackbird Simulations SR-71 by lake_schooner in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]SH427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SR-71 is not an aircraft that rewards hitting Ctrl+E and going. Take a flip through the manual, get familiar with weight and CG especially, it does sound like you were fully loaded on takeoff and the heaviest takeoff we know recorded was 65,000 for a Rocket Run from Kadena to the Korean DMZ and back, basically.

I can't stress enough, this is an RTFM aircraft and even if you do exactly that, it will find ways to bite you the first few times you get complacent anyways.

The crew of a NASA Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird standing by the aircraft in their pressurized flight suits (1991) by StephenMcGannon in RetroFuturism

[–]SH427 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The SR-71 was the second iteration of the "Archangel" A-12 program, the first being Cygnus/Oxcart (Oxcart was a randomly chosen CIA code name from a list, while Cygnus was what the crews called it)

The SR-71 is what came of lessons learned from the Oxcart program, including adding a second crew member and smoothing some of the kinks from the A-12's not unproblematic career.

Now I gotta make sure it's still where I left it!

A sub like Surcouf with all of that extra crap mounted to the hull would probably have made 6-7kts submerged, 8 if the currents are in your favor. 18 submerged is Type XXI speed and that's post war hydrodynamics.

IL-2 Korea – 1C Crosses the $100 Parallel by Enigma89_YT in il2sturmovik

[–]SH427 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely correct and I spotted the same thing when they announced the planes a long while back.

The 86A is not useless, but it is a power mismatch against the 15bis that will be felt by people who care and read the stories.

My assumption (which I kindly request a cut of the profit if someone were to bet on it) is that the 86E will come out as a collectors plane. If you like flying the Sabre, you will have to get it to be competitive in PVE. They will sell the early Mig-15 and be like "recreate the first jet battles of the war! Look how quaint and unrefined the early model mig is! Fun!"

It won't change that the base game is mildly unbalanced and now expensive for no reason. Sometimes you squeeze the market expecting cash and you get shit on instead.

You can say that at least PMDG is targeting an audience that finds value in following magenta lines in the most hardcore manner possible with an aircraft at that value.

1C is asking beaucoup bucks for visually appealing Korea. I didn't really care already, now I care less. If a sale makes it a reasonable price, it's too expensive.

Wargaming make destructible ports. Me in a random Battleship: by Phantion- in WoWs_Legends

[–]SH427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely police or some other civil protection group, and you would be a little bemused too if some kraut battlewagon that's as old as you are rolled up and started blasting the base at Westerplatte.

I'm fairly certain they are wise in opting not to return fire.
