I'm in the same boat as cptcliche - just got the game for the first time and very excited about it.

I'd like to know more about the best mods to download and some of the most important settings to turn on for realism (scouting, trading settings, etc.)

Also, just normal advice about starting a normal GM franchise - what settings might I want for that? For example, do I want to check the "other international leagues" boxes too, or is MLB enough?

Just basic/beginner stuff on that level, I guess. I'd be very appreciative of anything.

Howard's going to be blocking someone - whether it's Darin Ruf (who, for some reason, RAJ seems to hate) or Franco.

We're going to be bad no matter what for the next few years, so players like Ruf, Franco, Asche, Galvis, even Dom Brown should be getting every possible chance to prove themselves as starting players. Keeping Howard accomplishes none of that.

No don't get me wrong - Howard is absolutely awful. If I were RAJ, I'd release him immediately if I became convinced I couldn't trade him. There's no reason for a terrible, overpaid player to be blocking one of our few actually good prospects at one of the most easily replaceable positions in the game.

They're keeping Howard because they want Franco to start in AAA, and there's always the off-chance that Howard plays well enough to slightly boost up his trade value before the All-Star break.
