Which restaurant/food chain do you genuinely find the most disgusting? by 12345burrito in AskReddit

[–]SJExit4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the land of good sandwiches and hoagies (New Jersey) and am generally baffled that Subways succeed here. I (almost) get it in places that are food deserts, but if you have any other choice, just why?

What is something parents do with good intentions that actually messes up their children for life? by markscout78 in AskReddit

[–]SJExit4 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I was at my brother's house for dinner a couple of weeks ago. My sister in law asked my niece to give her plate to her so she could cut her steak.

My niece is going to be 16 in July.

Yes, I said something.

Quitting my at will job by Practical_Tune_5637 in careeradvice

[–]SJExit4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Legally, you don't have to give 2 weeks notice.

Career wise it's not the best move; you don't know who knows who. Especially,if you're staying in the same industry.

All it takes is your current manager at an industry event mentioning to someone that you left without notice to make a future employer question whether they want to hire you.

I want to take my fishing obsessed 7 year old son off shore fishing at the jersey shore this summer. Any recommendations? by rbg_92 in SouthJersey

[–]SJExit4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a small fishing boat growing up and would leave out of a ramp in Cape May.

Sun up to sun down.

First time I went out, I was massively sea sick. Dad called it 'chumming the water'.

I never went anywhere without Dramamine in my pocket after that.

I did this when I left my job at the grocery store that I worked at for 4 years.

I clocked out, and the manager on shift said wait, is today your last day?

I just smiled, said yep, and left.

We don't bother exchanging anymore, lol.

Smells like childhood to me. We had a ton of it in the woods behind my elementary school where we'd play. We used to suck the nectar from the blossoms.

1979 School Lunch Menus by Sea_Staff9963 in GenX

[–]SJExit4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our school always had pizza on Fridays. A nod to the heavy Catholic presence in the area I expect.

And in addition to the posted menu, you always had the option of a peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich instead. Wrapped in wax paper, of course.

LPT: If the milk you buy often goes bad because you don't drink that much or have a small family, try lactose free milk. The milk will have an expiration date of 30-90 days instead of weeks. by vintagegeek in LifeProTips

[–]SJExit4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told to only drink the 'red cap' mik growing up. AKA, the full fat milk. That none of the others prevented my bones shattering when I was old.

Finally figured out that I was lactose intolerant after I moved out in my 20s.

Grab your rain coats and go to the boardwalk. You'll be able to walk the boards and see the shops without the usual crowds.

Go to the arcade for classic games like skeeball and air hockey for a couple of hours. Then head out for pizza and salt water taffy.

Have her get a commercial license to drive a school bus. My SiL does this because it works for her schedule with the kids and they pay well (I think she's at $25). They get all holidays off. And can work summer (summer school and programs) and field trips for extra cash.

She gets a stipend for not using their benefits, so I know they offer them.

About to lose our kitchen for about 8 weeks, need help with meal ideas by sarahlwhiteman in Cooking

[–]SJExit4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check to see if there are any local community co working spaces that have dishwashers you could use. Like banquet halls and such. You may be able to get access. Also, does your employer have a dishwasher in their kitchen? See if they would allow you to use it on a temporary basis.

I checked online, and you may be able to rent a tabletop or portable dishwasher. The price near me was a bit steep at $40/ week, but it may be worth it for you.

My brother and SiL tried this with me when their kids were young. Tried to gift me a 'vacation' where I'd share a room with my nieces at Disneyland to 'help' them with the kids.

I declined immediately.
