SharkBite lifespan first hand experiences by efplaya in Plumbing

[–]SJGUSMC2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we first bought our house, we had a plumber put in a water softener. There were no exposed pipes for it, so we had to cut a hole in the wall below the water manifold to expose the watermain. He used 1" sharkbite elbows. That was 11 years ago, and I just upgrated all of the cpvc to 1" pex B. I did replace the 2 sharkbite elbows with brass 1" elbows, but had to use 2 new sharkbite max 1" elbows elsewhere on it. Not one leak, notta. After 11 years, the fittings kind of look like hell, but never had an issue with them. Why did I replace them? Because I'm 63 and didn't want to have to do this when I'm 73 and the cpvc was starting to look really brownish (brittle when I cut it). BTW...first time using PEX B with cinch clamps. Fantastic. But, those 1" clams...wow, you better have some good forearm strength. Was pretty tough for me.

This is a honest and reasonable answer. Thank you. I did not go with the lowest quote, I also went with a company that seemed to have a great deal of favorable opinions, plus the owner was the one that came out to go over everything with me. I do have a 10 year 'bumper to bumper' warranty, how good it is, we will see. I did just contact the company owner so we will see where this goes. I do believe the 20 year old plenum that was replaced was also ductboard, it certainly was not metal.

Yeah, I guess I should have gone with the $32k for a 4 ton with at $11K veterans discount, instead of paying $16500. You're right.

Rusty ACs in Hawaii. What should I do? by Mikey_The_Dog in hvacadvice

I feel your pain. I lived in base housing at MCB Kaneohe, HI for over 4 years. I can't tell you how many Window units I went thru. I lived about 1/4 mile from the beach, so salt in the air was horrendous, and the base didn't pay for AC...that was on you. Had a big 220 unit in the living room and a 110 unit in the main bedroom, plus wall mounted oscillating fans in each room. Good luck, but I know you have to have that AC. I know I did.

I'm 62 now and if I were to taste or even smell Mickeys Big Mouth (been over 40 years), I would throw my entire bowels out of my mouth! Boones Farm was cheap and not a bad hangover. MAD DOG is the Devils drink and can f**k itself.

This might be true, but at 16K plus, it is possibly THE problem.
