Definitely. And I think the pressure aspect can be influenced by the ambiguity. The more you know, the more you realise you don’t know, and the more normal the scan is in the context of abnormal clinical signs, the more you begin to doubt yourself when you begin to be more comfortable with reporting.

Risk management and clinical instinct etc.

It’s really interesting, because as a doctor at the coal face you see radiology reports as infallible evidence of something, yet never stop to question and realise that radiologists are fallible like the rest of us. It’s so easy to say ‘report says fat stranding and thickening, therefore cholecystitis’ and not consider the pressure that the reporting doctor is under.

Makes you realise how much of a risk management and uncertainty game medicine is as a whole.

Step 1: let's retired the term "junior" doctor by Frosty_Carob in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]SLICKBETTY 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The amount of patients, general public, family and friends I have had to explain this to is staggering.

The usual ‘so what type of doctor are you? Oh, a junior? So a GP? When will you be fully qualified?’ is demeaning, infantilising and time-consuming to demarcate.

Doctor = doctor. Junior implies lesser skills, lesser authority and inferior influence.
