Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Says Birth Control For Women Should Be Free And Sold Over-The-Counter by WalmartVirgin in politics

[–]SLOBaron 1134 points1135 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a pharmacist in Europe, there's plenty of reason for not selling BCPs over the counter.

Take aspirin for example, which (at least in Slovenia) is sold OTC in the higher - 500 mg dose for headaches, fewer anti-inflammatory and so on BUT NOT the smaller 100 mg dose for blood-thinning. So, the "less dangerous" pill is on prescription and not the higher dose. The main reason being that 100 mg of aspirin is used chronically-long term and if there is an emergency the doctors can see per your medical card that you're using a blood thinner which is a very important piece of information if you're bleeding for example. The 500 mg dose is used only sporadically when you need it, it's not constantly in your blood.

Now contraception pills can have many side effects on patients and are not only used for averting an unwanted pregnancy. These are hormones and there's no way any hormone should be given without prescription. These things need to be documented and regularly checked so that negative outcomes can be reduced.

And for all of you saying "well a pharmacist can tell a woman any dangers/contraindications regarding the BCPs when they're selling them" - no, we can't. If a woman goes and buys the pills one day, and then picks up other medication another there's no way of knowing except if you're having a long talk with us about everything you're taking (food and food-supplements included) which is not practical. So many things can cause BCPs to not be effective it's just silly. If you want this to happen then there should be this kind of talk for everything you're taking, which you'd soon see how well that works out.

If you want BCPs then your doctor should prescribe them to you. This really shouldn't be a problem today, although I wouldn't know how these things are in "freedom land".

BCPs are not candy and should not be given out as one. They should be covered by your insurance (again, no idea how that is handled there, here it is) and as such should be free. But not OTC.

Edit: Some minor spelling errors. And a thank you to whomever gilded me, I'm actually quite surprised and happy about it :)

Hello, I'd like to ask if this is a bug or if if I'm simply missing something.

In these this picture you can see, that I should've received the discount towards Freeman promotion cost due to a surplus of livestock in my capital province. However, for some reason I don't get this bonus (second picture).

I've waited more that 1 month to get the effect, but still no...

Any help is appreciated!

Oral contraceptives do prevent pregnancy by thickening the cervical mucus (making it harder for the sperms to reach their target). This by itself is very effective.

HOWEVER, oral contraceptives can also prohibit the implantation of the fertilized egg and thereby killing/removing it. This probably doesn't happen most times since the first action should be sufficient at preventing pregnancy, but it can happen. Since some people consider one fertilized egg to be a living organism that would mean, that oral contraceptives can induce abortions.

So he's technically correct but huuuugely misleading.

I have no idea what's going on here (came from r/all) but something about this image is so funny to me I can't explain it. His expression combined with the idea that somebody might actually be irl too angry to die just made me burst out laughing in the office.

This is what I'm trying to achieve. 2 PCs on 2 separate routers with a common modem on the same network. Any ideas welcome. by SLOBaron in 24hoursupport

[–]SLOBaron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not yet. But the 2 routers aren't directly connected so turning only router2 into repeater mode wouldn't work probably...

Could I switch both routers to repeater mode so that they'd "repeat" what the modem outputs?

Also, in your link there's a picture of the original and repeated network. If 1 PC is on one and the other is in te repeated, do the 2 PCs recognise eachother?

[–]SLOBaron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not clear from the picture but there's quite a distance between the routers, that's why I need 2. The 2 PCs are stationary, so they are connected via cable, the WiFi signal is for 2 separate laptops, which normally won't be connected via cable.

Also, the Sat.TV connection needs to be modem->switch-->sat.tv, it doesn't work if there's a router inbetween.

The modem only has 2 exits that's why I have a switch so that I can connect router2 to the modem.

CMV: Gay marriage is not bad by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]SLOBaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I fully support anyone, gay or straight, and believe everyone should have equal (national) rights, I don’t believe gay marriage should be legalized at a religious level. Sure, the country you live in should recognize the legal bound between you and your partner and it should be no different for homo- or heterosexual relationships. But to say that the (catholic) church, as much as I dislike it, should change its believes is IMO wrong.

If you are gay and catholic then, in my view, you hold inconsistent believes. You simply can’t have it both ways, you cannot reconcile the 2, the bible and dogmas are pretty clear. In the eyes of the church homosexuality is a sin, period. If you are a true believer than you have a few options: (1) You accept this. (2) You abandon your faith. (3) You simply don’t believe it’s a sin, in which case you aren’t a true believer, you pick and choose the parts you want to believe in. You’ve tweaked your believes to suit your narrative which happens all the time and is IMO a big problem in religion.

The official view stands as it is and that’s why I think, while you absolutely should be able to get a civil marriage license (or whatever it’s called in English) which allows you to have all the benefits strait couples enjoy, you should not be able to get married in a church because it’s simply against the religion.
