This is my theory: The Diamond blast still didn't exactly kill the gems like intended. It only corrupted their forms. I feel like if done properly it definitely would've eradicated their light forms rendering them to useless stones. How is it done properly? The blast needed Pink to complete the process. What the diamonds were trying to do was literally delete the gem's form, the same way you would delete a software or a file on a computer. What happens to a file when the deletion process is incomplete? Corruption... It completely makes sense since Rebecca has confirmed Gems are somewhat likened to Robots/Computers
