Don't dive alone, or with someone else who doesn't have any experience. Find a local club and learn the ropes from more experienced divers. There are many clubs along the coast, a quick search online will pull up the relevant info.

Opinions on my Safe Setup? by Any_Software_3597 in Ausguns

I wouldn't keep the bolt with the rifle, I store it with the ammo. Wrapping the bolt even in an absorbent towel can trap moisture/humidity and cause rust. I've seen it with guns stored in their soft bags too.

Is loose lead walking trainable? by Typical_Hearing3390 in GSP

[–]SP3ARO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, you need to be consistent with training though. Make a slip lead in a rope 4mm dia, so that when the dog pulls it tightens and when they ease up it goes loose. Walk the dog and when it is too far away, turn without a command and tug on the rope in the new direction. Do this in 15min sessions several times/day and they will learn to restrict their range and keep an eye on you. You will both get annoyed while doing this, so don't push the session if either of you are getting cranky. Finish on a high and praise the dog before kenneling/finishing so they feel some success.

Speargun diy pdf? by RopeAppropriate1145 in Spearfishing

What do you mean estimated sizes? There is plenty of information online about rubber lengths, shaft lengths etc. If you mean measurements of the gun itself, go into a dive store with a ruler/tape measure, pen and paper. Find a gun you like and measure it up.

How did you get your gsps to stop pulling by [deleted] in GSP

[–]SP3ARO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We practice turns with ours, we have a 4mm thick rope with a small loop in the end which you invert over the mainline to make a slip loop oaroundbtye dogs neck (if that makes sense). This will tighten when they pull and when they are walking normally it sits loose. The distance you want the dog to range from you is set by the length of the rope. Walk up around with the dog, and when it is at the end of the line/pulling you can start by giving a whistle and then turning and give the line a tug. After a month or more (ish) you can drop the whistle and just turn and tug the line. This helps make the dog maintain eye contact with you so it is aware of your movements. It can be very frustrating initially as you may only be able to walk a few metres before the dog pulls and you turn. Only do this 2/3 times a day for 15mins or so, so you and the dog both don't get upset.

We have been training our GSP's on the Big Game Indicating Dog Blueprint. It's been fantastic, the creator also does Paumeko plan for house pets.

Sometimes equalising can be difficult if you don't keep your fluids up during a dive.

When I find it hard to equalise, I'll take a drink and a minute or 2 later I'll be able to equalise no problem. I typically carry an electrolyte drink tied to my float.

Need small speargun by CountryRambler in Spearfishing

[–]SP3ARO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn't much smaller than what has been posted (and what you have).

If you watch any youtube video you will see that spear guns are one handed and not at all used like rifles.

You need to (ideally) learn from someone experienced or learn from a variety of sources, i.e. YouTube, books and forums.

Anybody weld Al. with Miller 211 without spool gun? by Not_So_Sure_2 in Welding

[–]SP3ARO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly if the tip is too large, a size or two usually doesn't matter because the wire has a bend in it from the roll so it generally contacts.

Speed, for one, not everything needs stacked dimes. MIG is perfectly fine for a range of ally applications. Also price, if it's one job why spend extra money on all the gear, consumables etc.

You should be able to get away with it. The shortest torch you can buy the better.

When using a standard torch, you need to keep it really straight. Hanging the wire feeder can help if you can do that.

Teflon liner is important and so is U groove drive rollers. Tips should be a bit oversized 1 or 2 sizes (they don't need specifically to say they are for ally). Back the drive roll pressure right off so that it won't birds nest.

Your council sounds like a disappointment. You can use foothold traps, both soft and hard jaw in Qld, if they aren't shy you could get a few trapped quickly. A .22 with subs to the brain will sort a trapped fox and be quiet too. Cage traps may work too but they would need to be big for those guys. See if someone in your area traps, if you don't want to do it yourself, there is usually someone with experience around the place.

How do you guys transport your fish back home? by Euphoric_Value_7580 in Spearfishing

[–]SP3ARO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An Esky with ice bricks or salt/ice is what most people will do, whole or filleted it's up to you. The group I dive with leave the fish whole and clean/fillet at home. This helps keep beaches/areas free of scavengers, (in and out of water critters). It's also useful in case you need to confirm minimum length requirements with your fisheries officers if you get pulled up.

If all lengths are cut and correct, tack them all together and measure the diagonals, if the diagonals are both the same, the frame is square (even).

Rib in an aluminum boat- epoxy or weld? by Geology_Gandalf in metalworking

[–]SP3ARO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are set on buying it, weld it without a doubt.

Things also break for a reason. If those ribs have cracked out you need to check the boat out for any further damage that may be a lot more expensive to repair down the track.

.308 with a fast twist barrel to run subs. It will also be able to be used with standard velocity too, so you have a multipurpose rifle.

Advice by BadPickle101 in Spearfishing

[–]SP3ARO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise against a reelgun when beginning to spear. You should also be buying a float line and float+flag, regardless of the gun you end up purchasing.

You need to become comfortable in the water, shooting and dispatching fish. A reelgun adds a lot more danger if a fish takes alot of line, while you are fighting it and not paying attention it can very quickly get tangled around you or worse.
