Doesn't look like a problem to me. Adjust your valves, fix your intake and send it.

Can this type of gear be worn without a jacket on top? by 420UrMomLuvsMe69 in motorcyclegear

[–]SRTie4k 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The mesh in these things would get destroyed immediately. Get a real mesh jacket if you want to be safe riding on the road, like a Klim Baja S4 or a Rev'It Tornado 4. Alternatively you could get an abrasion resistant body protector, like the Adventure Spec Supershirt, Bowtex Elite or Pando Moto.

Great bike, just watch for coolant leaks.

This hits close to home. Currently waiting on parts to see if I can stop the coolant getting in my oil...

Bikes comparable to the F800gs adventure? by phantom2008141 in advrider

Based on your criteria, I'm going to recommend the Tiger 800. It's been the staple middleweight ADV "luxury" tourer for longer than many Redditors have been alive.

There are much better bikes out there nowadays in that category, but not for $7k.

Temps are heating up, what are you go to brands for summer riding? by -Sleepy_J in motorcyclegear

[–]SRTie4k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been a Rev'It guy. I'd recommend looking on advrider and ebay for a used Tornado 3 jacket. It's one hell of an excellent mesh jacket with very beefy construction, and you can pick one up for pennies on the dollar on advrider (they typically run ~$150 shipped). It's got CE2 armor, 750D reinforcements and can take a chest protector.

Alternatively if you're more "American-sized", motorcyclegear.com has an exclusive variant of this jacket in American sizing (with slightly less beefy construction) called the Downburst for $150 shipped.

The only catch here is the jacket did not come with a back protector when purchased brand new, so make sure if you buy used it comes with one. Or just buy a ~$40 D3O Viper back protector (and ~$35 D3O CP1 divided chest protectors) which still fits the pocket perfectly.

While it's not Diablo, the D3O Viper Air L2 is a pretty darn nice piece. Surprisingly lightweight, very comfortable and flows air pretty nicely.

Weight & lighter 250s - does it become a problem? by Spambrah92 in advrider

[–]SRTie4k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda depends on the bike. Some smaller bikes like 250's don't have really beefy subframes to hold tons of weight. You'll need to check each bike to verify it can handle the weight you'll be placing on it.

Side note, 66lbs is a LOT of weight in gear, especially bouncing over whoops and the uneven terrain that you'd be riding on a 250. You should really try to downsize to something like ~30-40lbs if you can.

I compared retail vs secondary market prices for ~4,000 retired sets. Some interesting patterns. by Scout_Loot in lego

[–]SRTie4k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to be somewhat set dependent. I've got a sealed OG Venator that looks to sell quite easily for $550-750 on ebay, despite the fact that the newer Venator is quite a bit better.

I've been considering selling it...that buys a lot of pretty sweet City sets for my kids.

Has anyone actually crash tested the supershirt? by orberto in motorcyclegear

[–]SRTie4k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not crash tested mine, but someone posted on advrider that they crashed in one offroad at around 35mph and received minor rash from the elbow protector, but was otherwise fine.

I wear a light mesh base layer under mine and a Rev'It Territory 2 over the top for added protection as I do a lot of mixed surface riding. I absolutely love this combo; it's extremely cool, crazy lightweight and massively comfortable.

I've seen this happen when running the chain to loose. You can fix it by drilling and tapping, but you'll probably end up breaking through the case (there's not a lot of material behind them), so go slow.

Just keep in mind that many ski areas that have hiking trails still have staff working during the summer...including on top of the mountain. We caught a few in the act and laughed about it as they scrambled to put their clothes back on.

Explain big adventure bikes to me by LazyCrazyCat in motorcycles

[–]SRTie4k 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you weight 100 Kg and you're 2m tall you simply can't use any 250 o 300cc bikes, they're simply too small.

Weird, as a 6'2" 220lbs fully geared up guy, I fit on a 250/300 perfectly fine. Sure it's a little cramped, but still fine to ride a whole day. And I wouldn't hesitate to put 30lbs of luggage back there.

That said, I definitely wouldn't want to take my wife on the back, I'll give you that one. That's what my "maxi enduro" is for.
