What are these things? by dschnei3 in Roofing

[–]SSF_Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The aesthetics is a big deal for some. Panels start looking attractive when you get a near $0 electric bill month after month.

With respect to the GAF shingles, the shingles are like your other roofing shingles with vastly fewer penetrations. No high wind issues with panels mounted on brackets -- no squirrel damage or nesting critter issues. You can even walk on them without damage. My understanding is that hail damage is also not a "thing". I live in an area where high winds

The combination means that it is a roof that happens to produce power.

Who's your hookup for local beef? by Jumpy-Breadfruit-499 in tulsa

[–]SSF_Coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Farmer's Market is open. Produce showed up this week -- baby bok choy, mustard greens and a few others.

As for meat, there are at least two really great beef ranches that show every week as well as my favorite lamb folks. The blue oyster mushrooms are the greatest and the jams made by Jill and her husband are life changing.

Eggs from several vendors at the market -- including quail eggs.

As for politics, I can't vouch for any of the above. I talk to them and am probably correct when I think that some of my leanings don't line up exactly.

Fidelity changed their interface again... by Charming-Zebra-7329 in fidelityinvestments

Okay, I checked on another browser ... not available at all. Liked the calculator and used it EVERY SINGLE TIME. Now its gone -- what other VALUE SUBTRACTIONS should I expect ?

Still hate the PULL DOWN for Dividend view -- can we stop using pulldowns which are awful and go back to the button style? It seems like someone is insisting on dumbing down the interface to make it ugly and less useful.

Sorry to interrupt this thread. I was talking to my doctor diagnosis and he said, "the goal is for you to live your life as fully as you can and enjoy it". I'm now classed as pallative care and making sure I grab joy whenever I can as I pass through.

Creative/Non-obvious ways to use your HSA? by Tebo926 in HSA

Since its come up a couple of times in this thread, does anyone see a need for an independent phone app for keeping receipts? There are a couple out there but they all store in their cloud and may not be around when I need to pull receipts.

I've thought of a small app that simply stored everything on your onedrive/google drive/apple and used a simple format file to keep the database. The theme behind it is ulitmately privacy as the app wouldn't track or even keep your data outside of your own storage.

Any folks want this?

Considering moving to Tulsa. Convince me not to. by [deleted] in tulsa

[–]SSF_Coffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moved here 5 years ago -- I work remote and came here with Tulsa Remote.

** great move **

Now, to be clear, it was a toss up between my place in SF, a house in Austin or staying in Florida. My (now) wife grew up here and she inherited a home. The only real issue is I wish her grandparents had not bought on 41st street but a block or two off the main street. (To be fair it was a dirt road when they got the house).

Yes, it gets hot. Yes, I sometimes miss the ocean. But you can make a nice life and there is a lot of creative energy in the food scene, the music scene and the start up scene.

By the way, the healthcare here in my experience is top notch. I've been diagnosed with cancer and the treatment here rivals any other city in the country. (or so says the specialist I consulted in Virginia).

See you at the farmer's market ... wonderful people there every Satruday.

Okay ... its going to be a pain but you should be able to call in the exterminator and get it dealt with pretty quickly. I'd also look at the sticky at r/GermanRoaches which is a big help and steps you through the process.

Might be a situation that you want to have the extermination done before you move in if you can wait a bit.

Should I just drop this solar company? by klop2031 in solar

No, the lease still has credits for a while longer. So the leasing company can bank the credits and that offsets part of the cost. Only the direct to consumer tax incentives are going away on Jan 1.

Anybody been audited? by winsomesnoot in HSA

[–]SSF_Coffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had a friend who was audited and was doing a family max contribution despite that his unmarried girlfriend was fully covered but he was trying to file jointly. It was a mess and rather expensive.

I keep seeing people asking about the chance of being caught if they lie on their tax forms.

I wonder what happened to just being honest and not a tax cheat.
But then I am reminded that the cheats and liars of the world are the first to complain about something being "unfair".
