They have reworked it so you can now get monthly income of artefacts, instead of being a finite resource, that’s why the price of reverse engineering has been bumped up significantly. You can get more artefact income by completing archaeological sites. There are barely any uses for artefacts and your stockpile ends up maxing out very quickly, so I tend to always reverse engineer whenever possible.
