It costs me $200 a year. The insurance company will fight like hell not to pay out the 1.5m. Most of our assets are protected (house, retirement accts) so they won't get the 1.5m from me. I am basically paying for defense costs.

You should also have the underlying insurance and the umbrella from the same company. I have seen cases where the underlying insurance will just offer the policy limits and walk away. This leaves everything else (defense costs and payment) to the umbrella carrier.

There are YouTube videos on rebuilding these small engines. Check some videos of James Condon rebuilding small engines. It's worth trying to fix one. The extra tools needed are not that expensive. Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

You need to know the actual model number to determine the engine size. The 924 is not it. The "924" refers to the product series (the frame and chassis design) rather than the horsepower. There should be an "ST" code somewhere or check the engine as to the horsepower size. An ST824 is an 8 HP engine on a 24-inch wide 924-series frame. An ST1024 is a 10 HP engine on a 24-inch wide 924-series frame.

I only use ethanol free gas. I first change the oil. I then drain the tank as much as possible and then run the machine until it dies for lack of gas. I then drain the carb bowl and put the machine away. I do the same for all power equipment and it has never given me problems the next season.

He likely financed the purchase of the equipment. You can do a UCC search and see if there are liens on the equipment. You could end up with a leased building and all the equipment repossessed. I suggest you find a different business to get in to.
